OMG THANK YOU for including a female voice!! I’ve had the most difficult time trying to find the right mic for my voice, and an even harder time trying to EQ a female voice because all the tutorials are for male voices. That was so helpful 🥲🙏🏻

Females voice is just an octave higher so ‘all’ mics will sound great, i googled eq a female voice after reading your comment and there was all the information right away. Nothing was hard to find. In saying that I can hear he hadn’t eq’d his partners voice in this video, an enhancer would sound great on her but she doesn’t need it either for talking head. Natural is way better. Nice to see you using the old yeti correctly as a side address mic.

I just got this mic, and I can say that this is a mic you will not regret! I had the Shure MV7 and had some problems with it, so I send it back. This mic is even better in some ways! I love the buttons which you can control the mic input and the headphone output with. When I am behind the pc and I am typing and talking with people, they don't hear the typing noise too much. It's really nice! The sound quality is also very good.

Awesome! The PodMic is super solid and reliable. Sometimes needs a little EQ to reign in the highs and add some lows depending on your voice, but that’s about it.

I was surprised at how good the mic sounded! To be fair, I listened on an iPad Pro 12.9 purposely to get a feel for how it would sound with typical podcast listeners. And frankly, I thought it sounded better than all the other mics, except the Shure MV7 and your main overhead mic (sorry forgot the model). You sounded like you. And Heather sounded amazing! So then I put on my Bose QC35ii’s and listened again. This time, while the Deity sounded good, the MV7 was quite a bit better on both voices. Still, for the price the Deity is hard to beat. Thanks for a great, fun review!

🤘👍👍👍💥 This mic is quite interesting. In theory it's dynamic microphone but in practice it behaves like sth in the middle between dynamic and condenser mic. It has wide frequency range like good condenser mics. It has very good audio quality. Currently I'm searching sth for myself. My old mic is quite disappointing. I used it to prepare 17 videos but the "cost of recording" is terribly high due to many problems with audio. I wouldn't mind to check this Deity. Funny thing is when you have a small channel, no one is interested to provide you mic for using, but then you need it a lot. When you become big, everyone is interesting to send their product for testing, but then you are not so much interested... Still big thank you for this video.

I was considering modding one of my mics to paint it white, but after seeing how much it blows out under good soft lighting, I'm going to nix that idea. If anything, I'd opt for a light grey and possibly a pebbled finish. Thanks for putting this one out there, and congrats to your lovely wife for helping you out. Adding a female voice should be the norm for mic reviews.

Yeah, I love the white look, but lighting bright white things is tricky. Glad the review was helpful!
@OrenArieli Жыл бұрын
@@tombuck If you do decide to light a setup with a white object on your desk, you can either 'feather' the light by angling the softbox so that the top is next to your head, and the bottom angles away from your body. Exposing for your head will give you a nice falloff, depending on modifier size and distance. A second option is to use a black net (scrim) on the bottom half of your softbox. You can even DIY it by purchasing fiberglass screen door material, and cutting a segment that fits your softbox's bottom half. Double it if needed. Old gaffer's trick.

Also the cable that comes with the mic itself is much shorter than the one that comes with the kit which makes just about no sense. (11:28) Umm... Speaking of a Røde VideoMic GO II, A mic that is a compact and a big/podcast audio quality... But you know what? I have a 7RYMS Minbo Mini... Which it is right now my current "Main" youtube mic... It does have a very good audio just like what the most of the expensive mics out there, Including Those steaming mics that you have talked about in the video. I used a 7RYMS Minbo Mini for KZbin since Jan 2022... It's not a long time though... And Hey, At least... My 7RYMS does a very good job at the audio quality and I really like how it sounds when I'm editing the video. And I'm still using it... Until now... Oh, What about the camera? Nah, I'm still using a 2015 Samsung Galaxy A7 and Somewhat a 2011 Sony Handycam HDR-PJ30E, Which I have never used in a long time... (But I actually being able to use it in one of my latest videos...) (Edited on March 23rd 2022 : If I have any updates about my KZbin cameras... I would probably comeback later to edit this comment again.) If I have enough money to buy a Røde VideoMic... It would take a long time... And right now it's still on my plan. Looking to buy either this one or the Samson Q9u. My biggest concern is noise rejection. I'll have a fan and sometimes an aircon running while streaming or recording, and my mic will be close to a laptop. Which would be better at rejecting these background noises?
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
The Q9u is a big better at noise rejection since it's a condenser mic, so that's probably the way to go. But I think more of it should depend on which mic you personally like the sound of the most.

Thanks for the great video! Wanted to see if you could give me some guidance on my mic purchase. I’m kind of stumped on what direction to go with my microphone choice. Basically choosing between the wave 3 or the deity VO-7U. Completely different mics. Mainly going to be using it for work calls and streaming with friends and don't really want to start an upgrade path. I have a Mac, my room is untreated and I use a mechanical keyboard. I feel myself liking the look of the deity VO-7U(terrible reason to like something I know) but the Wave 3 seems to have more room for tweaking since it has Wave Link. Any thoughts or guidance you can provide?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question, and to be honest, you can't go wrong with either one. But here are a few thoughts: 1. The Deity will likely be a little better at rejecting noise from your keyboard. 2. The Wave has better sound quality (in my opinion), but might pick up more keyboard noise. From what I know, the Wave has the same capsule as the Lewitt LCT240, which is one of my all time favorites. If I were in your shoes, I'd honestly go with the Wave for better sound quality and more software versatility. And there's nothing wrong with making the decision based on looks haha. I love the lights on the Deity 😁

Hiii I'm doubting about which mic to get. VO7U or Rode video mic go 2. I have a no treated office room, is small (17 sq mt), with a carpet and a sofa the other are hard surfaces. 'll need to hide it from my camera frame while in meetings at work, I don't know if I'll be able to do it with the VO7U, but I love how it sound. I'd seen that the Rode video mic go 2 sounds similar to it, but It will catch a lot of "room noise"? To be clear. I'll use this mic for work online meetings. To give you some context, I'm a lead developer and I have a Sennheiser HD 599 SE as headphone. I'm in EU, so prices differ a bit. Just to clarify: - Deity VO-7U (with arm kit): 200USD - Rode Video Mic Go 2: 130 USD + ~40 USD stand: 170 USD I think the deity VO-7U it's a better sounding mic for this purpose (dynamic, gets a cleaner audio based on how this room it's not treated), but slightly harder to hide it. What would you do in my place? (I need to order it these week, so that's the pressure i have) I take it seriously because it will be the only mic I'll buy in my life maybe. One last question, how much maximum distance I'm able to take without loosing quality with each of them? Thanks for answering
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
This is a tough one, and I have a few thoughts: 1. If there will be times when yo udon't want the mic in frame, the VO-7U isn't the way to go. It's really designed to work best at about one or two fists' distance away form your mouth. 2. The Rode will be more capable of picking up sound form a distance, but it will also pick up more of your room tone since there's more space between you ant the mic. But that's sort of inevitable if there are times when you don't want the mic in the frame. There really isn't a huge market for USB shotgun mics that have tremendous reach. I kind of wish there were more options since I think a lot of people would really benefit from it.
@juanpatriciodoyle40412 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Thanks for the answer Tom, super quick, I really appreciate it! Yeah, It's a tough one.. I think room noise it's worst than showing the mic on the frame. So I'll think I'll go with the Deity, and maybe a webcam extender so that I can separate it a little more from my main monitor(in front of me), so that I can accommodate the mic closer. If I left it as it is, I can probably have the mic set at two fists, but just to be a little more fool proof an extender or something would be great. What do you think about these idea? (This is my last question)
@josh77412 жыл бұрын
After buying this mic and setting up equalizer apo with a simple gate, rn background noise remover, and EQ'ing out my siblances a bit I am extremely happy. I live in an rv in Arizona so my ac and fan are blowing 6' from behind the mic. It picked up a little less of the background noise from the ac but the big part is my girlfriend watches TV in the bedroom and there is no ai noise remover that can differentiate that and remove it all properly. I've been going back and forth between the videogame review I made and someone with a shure sm7b and an xlr mini (about 800$ setup) and I find it very difficult to find a difference in quality aside from when I knew rn noise had to try hard to do its job... a simple blue yeti nano has nothing on this thing. No more 4th times the charm on my voiceovers!

Okay, I’m missing something. What’s wrong with the blue yeti? I’ve been using mine for years.
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I actually made a video that dives pretty deep into this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6LddmaHhK-qeNk Basically there's nothing wrong with it, but it got SUPER popular at a time when there really weren't any other options. Now there are more options out there and lots of people look down on the Yeti for what I think are silly reasons.

@@tombuck I’ve just watched that video actually, I got mine in 2016 I’m very impressed with the thorough review… and I won’t be upgrading mine thank you very much.

During the XLR vs USB section, you lost sync between video & audio - you look like a badly dubbed foreign movie. Which mic were you using at that point? Okay, I see now that it's not tied to the mic. Though I did just update to macOS Monterey; and I use AirPods. So maybe that's the problem. Still, love your videos.

I’ve watched the video many times and I didn’t notice any sync issues. Doesn’t mean they’re no there though- I’ve been known to make mistakes.

She gets so many compliments on it haha! I love how bright it is on camera. It's from a site called fresh hoods.

I don't think it is that good. I had to relisten to parts but it sounds kinda like you got a sinus issue. I get budget issues and everyone can't afford a PODcast mixer from Rode/Zoom/Tascam but with the Rode NT you would get a virtual Rodecaster so still a better deal. I for one think people overthink these things. I wish sweetwater or BH would come up with a couple of packages that you rent try out several mics and then send it back and they send you the mic you pick. The Only USB mic I can stand is the Earthworks Icon.

I think lensrentals.com has some mics available (I know, not the first place you'd think of to rent mics, but hey).But you're right in that the Rode Connect app really does open up a lot of options when using their mics.
