There were a number of superheroes who appeared in newspaper comics long before Superman and other superheroes soared into the comic book world. "The Phantom," also known as "The Ghost Who Walks" and "The Man Who Never Dies," was one of the first. Phantom's creator, Lee Falk, drew inspiration for this purple superhero from a number of historical and legendary figures, including Zorro, Tarzan, King Arthur, Robin Hood, and others. With features like white eyes under his mask or wearing underpants over his slacks, he was a pioneer in the realm of superheroes. Subsequently, a few superheroes developed pupilless white eyes, including the Green Lantern and Batman. Additionally, everyone is aware that Superman always wears his underwear.
