Love it! What couplings do you use, and do you uncouple by hand? Please show a close-up of the couplings at some stage!

I use a mix of LGB hook and loop & 5 link chain couplings plus my own design of coupling which is basically a Binnie centre buffer with hook and an LGB loop attached underneath. All uncoupling/coupling done by hand and laparotomy forceps and edited out. I tried 3 link but they pulled too tight through loop points & caused derailments. 4 would be perfect but the 90° twist that results from an even number causes its own problems.

Thanks! I make my own couplings too, a thinner unobtrusive version of the old ghastly Triang tension-lock coupler. They can be uncoupled by elecro magnet under the track, or permanent magnet

How many wagons can your steamies handle unaided up a steep incline?

Good question. The benchmark is the 1 in 19 out of Hornundtrompetebahnhof onto McGonagall Bridge. All 4 of them can handle 4 wagons/8 axles comfortably (not including the Regner locos because they aren’t yet fully run in). The strongest of them is the Mamod Quarry loco - I think that would be capable of pulling a person. It’s able to handle 11 wagons. Gaspode is the next strongest and the only one strong enough to pull the 4 carriage Isle of Man set and can manage 9 wagons. Then Loch Crinan with 8 wagons and finally Polly with 6. It’s significant that Polly is an 0-4-2 so has a little less adhesive weight than the otherwise mechanically identical Loch Crinan.
