I want born until ‘88 but as a child my parents played this movie for me over and over because I was practically obsessed with it. Peter Sellers had me in stitches he was talented! The man could literally make any scene funny, give him an object and he’ll get a laugh with it. Growing up on these movies is one of my fondest memories. Can’t say I was a fan of the Steve Martin films later in life. But anytime I think back to Sellers playing Detective Clouseau it makes me smile.

Sometimes history affords us the most rare of blessings, when ultra rare talents such as Peter Sellers, Henry Mancini, Blake Edwards and Herbert Lom combine to create something that will last forever. These films could not exist if one single component is removed, in other words if you take the music away, it wouldn't be the same. The castle scene is a perfect example because the music somehow enhances the humor in a way that can't even be explained. They just don't make them like this anymore and frankly, I'm surprised and deeply disappointed that Martin participated in the remakes because I really did think he was smarter than that and I thought he had an appreciation for classics. Sadly I was wrong.

Peter and Blake stole from the best for that scene - practically a send-up of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoons in the middle of the second greatest James Bond parody that is _The Pink Panther Strikes Again._ Votre chien mord ? Nein. Joli chien. The first two, "Pink Panther" and "Shot in the Dark" are still somewhat "okay" and borderline "sane(ish)" with a 60s vibe - but it is 10 years later in the mid-70s with the release of "Return of the Pink Panther" (and later "Strikes Again" and "Revenge") that the madness and over-the-top slapstick truly begins with Cato, Francois, and Chief Inspector Dreyfus (played by the brilliant Herbert Lom) all coming into their own and contributing to the madness. "Trail" was just outtakes after Peter Sellers' death and a money grab with a more 80s vibe, but Blake Edwards just went mad with the series in the 70s.😆

It's interesting that Clouseau was originally not meant to be as bumbling or accident prone as Sellers made him. From memory, Peter Ustinov was an early casting choice for Clouseau by Blake Edwards, and we can guess that he might have played Clouseau as a funnier version of his Poirot (the character would still be the inept detective in the script who fails to catch Sir Charles, but would have been delivered as a smaller supporting role), so it would have been a very different film had Sellers not joined. When Edwards realised just how funny Sellers was as Clouseau, they then expanded his scenes to capitalise on that, and it changed from a "David Niven film" comedy about a retiring jewel thief as originally planned, to one which was then as much about the detective' as it was about the thief. :-)

The ONLY issue I had was a line in *"The Pink Panther Strikes Again"* , where Clouseau and Kato are peeking into a window, Clouseau on Kato's shoulders, the slip backwards into a bakery shop and Kato comes out with white frosting on his face. Clouseau says, *"Well, at least you aren't yellow any more."* Other than that, yeah, *VERY FUNNY STUFF.*
