It is said about great people, who are incomparable in their time, that there will never be another group who had the quality of The Platters. And now some 60 years later, now that all of the original group have passed away, we are left with their eternal voices still filling our souls with their heavenly blend of lyrics and score…

This is the first time I've seen this video and what a wonderful video it is. Showing one of the greatest Groups from that generation, which is mine, The Platters no doubt were one of the greatest Groups from the mid-50's and early 60's. Their lead singer, Tony Williams, is one of the absolute greatest lead singers of any Group in the history of "Rock & Roll". Thanks to KZbin we are able to go back in time and see the great talent that started "Rock & Roll".

Even though there are Platters groups still performing today, all the original members that recorded for Mercury are deceased. David Lynch (tenor) died in 1981, Paul Robi (baritone) died in 1989, Tony Williams (lead) died in 1992, Zola Taylor (contralto) died in 2007, and Herb Reed (bass) died in 2012. When Tony Williams left the group to go solo in 1961, he was replaced by Sonny Turner. Sonny Turner is still alive at 81 and appeared with a Platters group in 2019. Most of the other members who joined between 1962 and 1982 are also deceased.

For your information: this full video is part of a great italian movie (in fact, a sort of documentary) called “Europa di Notti” directed by Alessandro Blasetti, (1959). The Platters played two of their hits there: “You'll never know” and “My dream”. The movie is a sort of journey through music halls, circuses, cabarets and theatres all over Europe with artists such Domenico Modugno, Cocchinelle, Henry Salvador, Colin Hicks, Carmen Sevilla, etc, plus an assorted acts of magicians, comedians, streapteasers, voudeville artists, even street music. The original italian movie was great, with a narrator who connect the acts with a brilliant, ironic, funny script. There an appaling and shorter version on the italian original movie called “European Nights”, butchered as you can expect in the US. But if you want to have an idea on how was the real one, you can get it from Amazon.
