I was surprised by this video because for me PMP and MBA are such différent. I think people don't hesitate between the PMP and a MBA. I don't agree about networking for the PMP. PMI has local groups in a lot of country and you can meet other people who are certified. In my case, in France where PMP is not so well known, you can join local groups that organize events around project management (conferences, etc.) and do some networking.

it also need to consider that 1,2M PMP vs 2-3M MBA around.

That is a very good point on the PMI chapters!

I was thinking of doing my capm in french so it would look good to employers in France, but do they not really consider the CAPM over there?

@@erinfield1943no, in France, it is not so well-perceived to get certified. You could be perceived as someone having insecurities and struggling with finding a job.

Here in India PMP is go to certification to get a middle level mgmt position in industries. However, when compared head to head, PMP losses out a bit to MBA from top tier colleges. Still PMI local networking chapters here are quite active and they provide fabulous opportunities to deserving people.

I have both now and the PMP seems like more of a requirement for job opportunities

Thank you David, very informative. Another question, how do you compare with PgMP, PfMP, is it necessary to get them all?

Yes I would love an answer to this question as well

As someone with an MBA and not a PMP, given the job prospects and opportunities I get and do not even get considered for, the PMP seems a worlds better.

I have a PMP since 7 months and do not even get considered for too for the moment. You have to find opportunities, the diploma or certification is not an automatic bonus.

It does?? My friend has an MBA and PM's are two rungs below him. I don't even think he interacts with them.

The $56k MBA cost is quite good, but in parallel, what networking will you have? In the US, the average cost is $130k (if we are talking about the top 10 schools). With an average salary of 100-125k, the payback will be 2.5-3 years (since you have to pay taxes and bills).

I got an official mail from PMI stating" PMI‑ACP exam pattern is changing soon". Any idea when we need to take this exam?

If you look at the PMI website now, the outline in the PDF shows the new requirements which would be effective Nov. 2024. On the Webpage itself shows the old requirements. I'm guessing till then.

I am so sorry for you but I have some questions for you. Do you attend your local PMI chapter event on a regular basis? Are you involved in networking with those people around you letting them know your current situation? Have you updated your LinkedIn profile with a premium status? And so on !

All that is good but if you don’t have a good networking in the US 🇺🇸 just forget about it. We are so corrupt and it’s even legal in the US. corruption is call: Lobbyists and the job corruption is call: Networking.
