There is only one version, this one. The other isn't a version it's a sample
@AmbaryernoАй бұрын
It's a little bit more than just a sample since the ENTIRE chorus is taken from the melody and beat of Every Breath You Take. It would more accurately be a contrafactum since it put new lyrics over it.

DON T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME is a POLICE song STING wrote about himself being a high school teacher and some of his students having a crush on him
@samgod29 күн бұрын
I'm just floored that you never head of the The Police. But Mia, despite what most people think about this being a romantic song, Sting (the lead singer) actually wrote this as a stalker not accepting a breakup. The creepiness is the intent of the lyrics. Sting also wrote it in the same house that Ian Fleming wrote James Bond. And most importantly, as others have said, Sean Combs' is no "version" of this song. He just sampled it and pays Sting something like $5,000 a week or something.

Sting (the lead singer) is playing an upright bass which is known as a concert bass. These kind of basses were widely played in the Jazz standards from the 30s and 40s. Obviously, pre-electric bass guitars and bass pianos. The concert bass is mostly used in orchestras and symphonies. On a different note, one of my all time favorite Police tracks is "Don't Stand so Close to Me". I like the original track and the remake, both versions are performed by the Police.

Sting now claims this song was written about Big Brother as in Orwell's 1984. But when it was originally released, he said the melody woke him from his sleep and he wrote the song in minutes - recovering from a bad breakup. It's a melancholy melody that fits perfectly with the emotions of letting someone go that you never wanted to lose.

Written by and sung by Sting. He is on vocals, on upright bass and synthesizers. Andy Summers on guitar, piano 🎹. Stewart Copeland on drums. P Diddy sampled this. He pays a ton to Sting each time I'll Be Missing You is played. I met Andy Summers. He is upset 😡 that he does not get paid enough when the P Diddy song is played. The Police were in a mess. Infighting. They broke up 💔 after the tour of this album. Meanwhile opening act Bryan Adams was on the rise. Spanday Ballet was also on the rise. They recorded the album True in The Bahamas 🇧🇸. The Police recoded in Montserrat 🇲🇸. Suggested videos 📹: 1 Dire Straits and Sting perform Money for Nothing live at Live Aid. 2 Phil Collins and Sting sing Take Me Home 🏡.3 Bryan Adams sings Run to You. 4 Spandau Ballet performs True.

In most songs, listeners tend to feel the music and then grasp the words after...

Give Roxanne a shot next, then try So Lonely, then try anything. Very few misses by this band under the name The Police, and Sting is just about to wrap his current tour if he hasn't already with a brand new release just a few days ago.
@hackapump25 күн бұрын
Sting wrote it when he was in the midst of a painful divorce from his then wife. So you could say it's a stalker song, although when we are in that dark place we're not always thinking clearly, right? Better to write a song about it than to actually become a stalker. What is funny though is that the song is popular at weddings. (I'd be deeply concerned if it came up at my wedding - a bitter divorce song). The song holds the distinction of having the most radio airplay ever. (It might have been surpassed since then, I'm not sure, but probably not). So Sting is making quite a lot of dough from this song alone. And The Police is one of the biggest bands of the 80s - essential listening for anyone interested in the decade.

I got into a band around this time (drums) and we were learning the Punk Rock and Hard Rock songs of the time (late '70s early 80s). I discovered The Police around this time because my favorite Prog band, Rush, really loved the Police! And, if Rush loves them, then they must be great! In the P. Diddy (formerly Puff Daddy) version, they used the music and the chorus with some changes to the lyrics. This has been done before - Vanilla Ice's Ice, Ice Baby used the music from Queen's Under Pressure, MC Hammer's Can't Touch This used the music from Rick James's Superfreak, Madonna's Hung Up obviously used the music from ABBA's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) and Lordi's chorus in Hard Rock Hallelujah used the music from Alice Cooper's Poison. Sure the lyrics is creepy, but the music and Sting's singing makes this song work so well and it's still one of my favorite ballads! Would it make you feel better If I said that I would love to dance with you to this song?... ;) =)

I'll Be Missing You is what's called a contrafactum: P. Diddy took the melody and beat of Every Breath You Take, and replaced the lyrics for his chorus. There WAS a lawsuit over it in 2000, which Sting won, and he is now owed 100% of the royalties. He will continue receiving them until 2053. Good catch on the lyrics. This is probably one of THE most misunderstood songs ever. It is NOT a love song, but is, in fact, about a stalker. It actually makes its use in the season 2 finale of Stranger Things incredibly appropriate: A very sweet, romantic-sounding melody, but when you actually pay attention its much more sinister. Sting is playing a double bass. It's the exact same instrument as you would find in a string quartet or orchestra. It's also widely used in jazz, especially in bands from before the 1970s or who are mimicking the sound from before the 1970s, (in the 1970s jazz shifted into a more rock-oriented direction with what's called Fusion) and in the early years of Rock and Roll. It basically fills the same role in the band as the electric, but has a different sound.
@mjwilliamdenman4170Ай бұрын
Mia, Sting wrote this during what he called his "mental breakdown" amid the disintegration of his first marriage. He said in an interview that people see romantic overtones in it, but don't realise how creepy the lyrics are. You picked up on that, to your credit! It's an obsessive all-consuming love. It's almost selfish to the point of intoxicating. I think all the best romances are somewhat intoxicating and obsessive. Lol. You've got to be able to get lost in someone. As an aside, a lot of the best music is written on the back-end of anguish. Marvin Gaye wrote his best stuff post-divorce or midst addiction.

Sorry that all stalkers don't mention this song - probably cause most stalker don't understand they are stalkers but somehow think there ... uhm... lets say... "concept" of love is kind of... normal? Actually don't know that much. Maybe you search just for guys who totally adore you without being a stalker? Does exist also. But I do hope... you just want a normal nice guy and find this one under all the stalker around you 😀 Btw - Police was a huge band 1978-84. But the singer and the drummer kind of were so competitive to each other the work was kind of a a nightmare for them. Maybe this was part of why many of their songs are so unique and great. But of course also their musician ship is just extraordinary. Most songs are already mentioned ... I would probably do "Everything she does is magic" as next song. A real love song with lyrics that is also suitable. Could be from both the nice guy and the one that totally adores you 😀 Thanks a lot for your reaction and wish you all the best for your channel
