The Political Influence of 'The Lorax'

I think its cool how during the Oncelers reign, as he continues to "upgrade" his contraptions, he just builds off what is already there instead of rebuilding them completely with the advancements he wants. And in turn, his creations look highly improvised because they were neglegently constructed. More so, how it never completely occurs to him what he's done until the very moment the last tree is cut down. It is only then that he begins to realise. It's things like this that I feel really convey the neglegent and blind nature of man and their impact on the world and the environment. Of course the Onceler was written as a sort of metaphor/personification of capitalism and the aformentioned impact of man on the world. In the original 1972 movie, the Oncler asks the Lorax what he should do, suggesting that firing a thousand workers would too be unethical to which the Lorax responds that he doesn't know all of the answers and that he simply exists to spread a message of awareness. I like this because like the Lorax himself, the writers are not trying to suggest that they know all of the answers to problems like this, only the severity of pollution and destruction. The "Unless" quote is a highly applicable philosophy in life, I feel. The idea that things will never change unless someone really cares a whole lot. Also, good video :)
