Here in Germany they also don't repair potholes (cause they don't want us to drive along in our cars anymore...). Instead they put new signs with lower speed limits in that areas (cause they don't want us to drive along in our cars anymore...). Seems to be a perfect matching plan against us motorists.

All in all there does seem to be a policy of general neglect and tax increases that has to be intentional. Ask the dealers and lease companies about unexpected tyre damage and suspension bush destruction in advance of the first 3 year MOT occuring to cars with less than typical annual mileages covered.

This morning, I defrosted it and drove to work. At lunchtime, the defrost did not engage(46% battery left), would not go into Drive or Reverse, started giving me errors/warnings, and then shut right down.” From Torque news article in Canada, and we only talking-18 c so far.

If you are running low profiles with large wheels see what you can get in a smaller wheel with higher profile tyres. I know it's the pot holes BUT if it's happening regularly best to change the tyre profile. I used to run a Tigra and 3 sizes of wheel/tyres were available for the model so I got rid of the awful 17" wheels and went for the 15" with the correct matching tyres and it made a big difference in comfort and hopefully some protection from potholes. The rolling diameter is the same. It only affects the look.

At least that is a simple fix. Some suspension things to check are: The rear shock absorbers were probably self-levelling as standard. They do wear out and are mighty expensive to replace. It is worth checking that the pistons are clean and not leaking, at least you may get a bit of advance warning. The other thing is the long travel front springs, they do brilliant job of making a super comfortable ride, but the potholes & speed humps can result in cracks and complete failure, which could be messy.

Tried to claim on a number of occasions and, in North Wales, the insurer, Zurich, claim that, 1) They’re not liable if they don’t know about it. Or, 2) They DO know about it and will fix it sometime in the future. In other words, never liable. I have all this in writing. They also have no responsibility to warn of any dangers. I am a little over £3,000 in for damage over the past 5 years with the last one being last Christmas Day. It’s the very reason that I sold my car and bought an suv with huge tyres.

Just a quick note, it looks like the shocks have been changed at some point. If the 850 had Sachs Nivomats from new the spring rate is softer. New Nivomats retail at around £500 a piece 😢 so a big mistake when replacing the shocks is not to upgrade the spring rate to compensate for the self leveling suspension, this can cause more suspension travel hence the top bush breaking away like this.
