Personally, I think it's a black American gift because Caribbean people don't sing that way and they've been in the church longer than black Americans. My family are Caribbean and none of them can sing and the people in the churches they cannot sing - I wouldn't be surprised if this is the same with the Africans too.

Wow. I know Whitney can't belt as high as some of these black sopranos, but she had something special in her voice. The clarity of her tone, especially around the late to early 90s. Damn, her voice was rich, huge, and crystalline, like a tidal wave that drowned you in vigor and the holy spirit.

Black people sing from their heart and it’s form of therapy to sing unmitigated without pretense. Many try to copy it by imitating it through vocal techniques but certain things cannot copied these voices were cultivated due to a distinct history.
