Jennifer Rush owns The Power of Love. Around 1985, the first time I heard a recording of her singing this song I was in a club in Canada and I asked every one around me who was this voice and what was the name of this song. I had to "rush" back to the States to bye her album but I couldn't find it any where??? It took about a year to find and buy it. I just about wore that album out. If Jennifer Rush's The Power of Love would have made to the States back the 80's it would have blown the charts away. No way Celine even comes close to Rush!!!

Honesty speaking I have been listening to 'the power of love' over the years by the lovely and great singer Celine until recently when I bumped into the Jennifer's version on KZbin. The first time I couldn't hold the tears, it was undoubtedly and uncontrollably flowing through my chin. I felt greater passion, emotion, charisma and earthy-like voice radiating from this legend. I indeed enjoy it each and every time I play it. God bless this wonderful woman and a rare gem.

Jennifer was so famous in Norway in the 80s. her version is the absolute best, and have melted so many boys at weekends. This song blew a lot of speakers on dances and discotecs back then. I love Jennifer Rush! Congratulations for this fantastic video. Your analysis is masterly. Jennifer Rush is probably the best female voice I´ve ever heard. The way it sounds to me is very clear and compact at the same time. With a little and very elegant dark/baroque touch, inmediately followed by an infinite wave of warmth, majesty and style. About Celine Dion, I must say that I´m not a big fan of hers, but I completely respect her (I get goosebumps when I listen to "My heart will go on"). It´s her song. Just like "The power of love" is Jennifer´s song. It became a massive hit in 1985 in Europe and other parts of the world. For sure one of the anthems of the decade. Why people in the USA were "deprived" of her voice is something I don´t really know. Jennifer has also other super songs. Actually I think I started to know her with "Ring of ice" (I was 7 or 8).For me her first album is spectacular (if you like 80s), but I also love the second and the third... Some of her fans specially love "Heart over mind" (her third album. 1987). I think (as many fans do) that Jennifer was underrated and should´ve gained more popularity and recognition, but it´s also true that someway she managed to sell millions of albums throughout her career and become an icon thanks to her voice and her unmistakable style, which used to be very 80s and very elegant at once. I heard this song for the first time in 1985 on my way to town in Ghana and was immediately arrested by the sound and the voice that I had to stop behind the window from where the sound was coming until it finished. I can remember when I first heard this song and I was blown away. 1985. She was so obviously different from any peer singers. It was so obvious she was from a different genre. Like you, I “missed” Jennifer in her prime-in fact, I only discovered her 2 months ago. I am a big fan of Celine and only discovered Jennifer because I came across Celine’s cover of POL including Jennifer. I couldn’t believe my ears. I’m 84 and have heard them all, from Ginger Rogers to Edith Piaf to Vera Lynn. Then Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Tammy Wynette, and Bonnie Tyler. Add Gloria Gaynor, Connie Francis, Lauren Branagh, Linda Ronstadt, Rita Coolidge, Celine, Mariah, and Whitney and you have the lineup of the greats right up to Adele and Susan Boyle. But, Jennifer Rush has the all-around best female voice I have ever heard. Her operatic training adds an unmatched vibrato containing depth and texture. And she sings everything: opera, pop, rock, and ballads in English, Spanish, German, and Hungarian. She has written or co-written the lyrics and music for many of her songs, done duets with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, Elton John, and Brian May-sorry-Sir Brian May-and performed live all over the world-but not in America, except in March and April 1986 on the Carson show and the Dick Clark Show; that’s it. Yes. If Jennifer had decided to live her life in the US, she would still be in Las Vegas or on tour. It would be great if you reacted to 3 more of my favorites: “Who Wants to Live Forever?”, “Hero of a Fool”, and “Stronghold”.

Through the years I have heard "The Power of Love" both in English and Spanish sung by different artists and to me no one nails this song like Jennifer Rush. She also sings it in Spanish.

For anyone who has a minimum of musical ear, it is quite easy to distinguish the soprano (Jennifer Rush) from the other singer (Céline Dion). And it's unfortunate that Jennifer Rush doesn't get all the credit she do deserves for composing this song just like Lori Lieberman who is the original songwriter/composer who recorded ''Killing Me Softly''

Jennifer Rush is the real deal... I chatted with her a while back. She is still great. Both Jennifer and Celine had amazing performances. I saw an older tape of a live performance with Jennifer and her original band. Her live was a good as in studio. One secret about the old days... singers could actually sing, performers could actually perform, and musicians could actually play. We didn't use auto-tune, we didn't lip sync in concerts. We got paid peanuts compared to today. Both Jennifer and Celine have their own singing styles. Jennifer is a laid back singer from the 80's. Her voice is so powerful, pure, and with purpose. There is no question who was first artist to perform it. Celine is a dynamo, electric energy flowing out of her. Both artists never rush the song. They allow the song to be revealed like a book or movie. There is a beginning, middle, and end. We got 'influencer's' on Social Media whose claim to fame is telling everyone they are famous. They have zero talent in anything. I should feel sorry for them, but I don't, not even a little. Want to see real talent? Look no further than Jennifer or Celine.

Hi Dax, I just subscribed to your channel. I have to say how much I really appreciate your style of reactions. I agree with absolutely everything you've said about the original version of this much covered song by the amazing Jennifer Rush. This was a massive hit over here in the UK in the mid '80's and it remains the definitive and best received version to this day. I don't know when this was recorded but I strongly suspect it must have been around the time of it's original release, and I believe (and hope) she was singing this live. Musically and emotionally, Jennifers version has no equal in my book, and I could very happily listen to her sing this over and over, it's inspirational. Great reaction Dax, I'll be back!

I like to indform you that on 16th Dece,mber a new official release of RING OF ICE REMIX by Jennifer Rush & STEREOACT came out. first it was on tiktok and went viral. 15.000 video clips were posted within a week. then they put the song on youtube and it got over 120.000 views in one day. Since the 26th its official on iTunes and Spotify, amazon..etc.. Its hitting the download charts . In Germany 2 weeks number 1. in Austria moving between 1 and 5. up and down .Please can you make a reaction to it? The English speaking counties are not aware of it yet. they are missing out

I've been listening to this song since I first saw the video on MUCH MUSIC. I was totally on to it from the first time I heard it. I was feeling much the same as you when listened here. 35 years later I still feel teary with chills. I've noticed that every cover of POWER OF LOVE is missing Jennifer's extra lyrics about 1:30 minutes into the song, I suppose that's partly makes this her song. Glad you enjoyed Ms. Rush's original. I grew up with Jennifer's version, which was popular all around the world, including Taiwan, except in her motherland ironically. Celine is probably technically impeccable, but I prefer Jennifer's tone in this song. Just a matter of personal taste. Also, i think this was lip-synching to the studio version, which was done more often back in the day.

Dax, would you believe the first time I heard this piece was in Santa Clara Mission, a couple had used this song to play for their wedding. This song inside the Santa Clara Mission is unforgettable.
