I bought Caldwell's book. What a logical advanced-thinking human being. If modern medicine embraced his ideology there would hardly be any disease in our western culture. The problem is the pharmaceutical industry would collapse and many surgeons would be out of work.

I'm 22 and dropped out of college last year after surviving a suicide attempt due to inflammation-related, mental health issues even though I had, just six weeks prior, decided to cut out starchy carbs completely from my already low carb, omnivore diet. (Big mistake, I know.) Now I'm on day five as a whole-food, plant-based vegan and broke down crying today because I feel calm for the first time ever! No anxiety or raging obsessive-compulsive thought spirals, just... calm. Fingers crossed but I hope this eating lifestyle is here to stay. Y'all are beautiful souls and keep up the amazing content!! ❤❤❤

Yes, I think genetics plays a major part that would be correct. But Ive been dealing with elderly people all my life and it is rare to see a man of this age and height with such great posture, and mental sharpness... that is what struck me. Obviously he was an olympic rower so he has good genes and probably had a healthy and active lifestyle. I believe Dr. E father died of heart related issues in his 60's? I'm not 100 percent on this one, but if its true, its good news for all of those with poor genetics!

Love this family!! “Forks Over Knives” turned our lives around! I have oats every day for breakfast - I make up enough for 4 days and store in a Mason jar in the fridge - banana, lemon juice, a few dates and some water in the blender, added to rolled oats, ground flax seeds, chia seeds, ground cinnamon and cardamom, and frozen blueberries. I top it off with some delicious, home-made, sugar- and fat-free granola. Utterly, utterly delicious! Also on my breakfast tray is home-made soya yoghurt made from home-made soya milk and half a grapefruit. Our doctor told my hubby to go to a slimming club, just before the lockdown (they then met via Zoom). He was stuck at home with me and had no choice but to eat what I gave him and nothing else. Whole-food plant-based, the weight started to fall, not by following the slimming club recommendations. The leader of the group wants a weekly summary of what he eats and I send it to her - she often asks me for recipes!!! Two or three months ago my hubby complained of severe muscle pains and I said I was sure it was the statins he was on. He came off them, and told the doctor. The doctor said to come in in a few weeks and get a blood test. His cholesterol and BP have plummeted to normal and the doctor was amazed, saying his results were like those of a different patient, and that he now had the body of a 30 year old (he is 71)! He told him that because of his family history he ought to be on statins but he didn’t actually need them, and he was happy for him to stop. Cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes runs riot in his family - both parents and sister died from heart attacks and strokes (sister in 50s), older brother had triple bypass surgery 5 years ago and is now seriously ill again with heart disease, twin brother going downhill rapidly with vascular dementia and years of history of undiagnosed bowel problems. The whole family is/was morbidly obese. My hubby is by far the healthiest of the bunch. Many years ago when I first met him, and when I knew nothing about nutrition, I was horrified at the vast quantities of rich, fatty, animal-based foods his family ate. Cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes are not genetic in this family but due to lifestyle - doctors should realise this and not just blame genetics all the time. Over several years I lost about 56 pounds on an intermittent fasting diet but when I discovered WFPB I abandoned this and have now lost a total of 70 lb and not even trying these days. Just enjoying large quantities of absolutely delicious food that I absolutely know is doing us both so much good. Our lives have been transformed. I would love to meet Dr Esselstyn and his colleagues, the WFPB pioneers, and thank them personally. They are absolute heroes. THANK YOU!

I so adore this group!!! My husband tried to get stents as prescrbed in 2020, but was told his vessels were too blocked. And then told he needed a triple bypass and valve replacement. He tried his best to conform to this diet, but started feeling weak, so he added small amounts of fish and steak. The VA only offered the surgery and no other alternative. We ate oats, spinach mixed baby greens, broccoli, roots, flax seeds , chia seeds, etc. He was a disciple, telling everbody about this diet. But, my husband passed June 24, 2024 at home in his sleep. I am just now able write or talk without drowning in grief and tears because I miss him so much!!! But thank you for the years we did have together after his diagnosis that I feel your diet made possible.

Because of the Esselstyns, I always put 1/4 to 1/2 cup of oats in my fruit based smoothies. It is a known fact that an all plant diet is the best diet for the human body. Studies have show that eating meat shortens the life and causes heart disease and many cancers. I read The China Study by T. Collin Campbell and it makes 100% sense to switch to an all plant diet. Dr. Esselstyn is mentioned in Dr. Campbells book. I recommend this book to everyone. You two are great for helping those who are new to a plant based diet. We enjoy watching your show on the web. We buy the big bag of power greens at Costco, which we poke all over with an ice pick when we get it home. We squeeze all the air out of the power greens bag and place it under the ice bag in the freezer. After it's been in the freezer for 24hrs,we pull it out and while it is still sealed we crush it with our hands (gloves recommended) till it's powder. We then empty this frozen powder into a gallon zip lock bag. The power greens powder is always fresh in your freezer ready to be added to soups, marinara, smoothies, bean pots. The ice pick keeps the holes small so the green powder stays in the bag. Power Greens contain spinach, kale, swiss shard.

You have inspired many oat related adventures. Many thanks to all of you for the work you are doing. This past December, I discovered a recipe for Scottish Oat Skirlie online. It was described as having the texture and flavor of traditional stuffing. It was good and now I make it often. It can be made with all sorts of different ingredients. I've made it with oats, fruit, and cinnamon. I've also made it with oats, tomatoes, and garlic. Here is the original recipe I used: 2 1/2 cups of old fashioned rolled oats, (I have tried it with steel-cut oats and that works too). 2 1/2 stalks of celery, chopped, 2 medium onions, chopped, 2 1/2 cups of broth (or water - I used water), 1 tsp sage, 1 tsp thyme, (instead of the sage and thyme you can substitute 2 tsp of poultry seasoning), 1 tsp of garlic powder, (I also add 1/8 tsp of ground ginger), salt, and pepper. The original recipe called for 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of pepper. I cut that in half and used 1/2 tsp of each for my first experiment. I omit the salt when I make it now...1/4 cup of broth or water for sauteing the onions and celery. Directions for cooking: Saute the onion and celery until soft. Add the vegetables, seasoning, oats, and broth to a slow cooker and cook on high for 2 hours.

Which breaks my heart!! He's had heart attack. Of course cardiologists have him on meds and he is NO better; actually getting worse. Now they say he has small vessel disease so he's expecting to stroke. So hard to convince those you love!! BUT I keep trying! Sent video links in hopes he would take me more seriously. We'll see! I just love your family! I'm the healthiest person in mine - they all want their eggs and bacon and dairy - and apparently they're 'ok' with their high BP and other ailments. I like having low BP, low cholesterol, etc. (It's not "our genes"! It's what we eat!) Usually I eat fruit all morning and occasionally have overnight oats if I need something more filling. I find so much encouragement from watching your videos and listening to you and your parents speak. I have started eating oatmeal daily and I love it! Grateful for all that you do!

How did you treat your disease ? I have got a stent 5 months ago, I refused statins and aspirin, and now feel pain on my leg ( gamble) , I think it’s thrombosis. From 9 august 2021 I started plant based diet. I am taking now again after 5 months 20 mg statins and aspirin daily. I mention that I followed keto diet 2 months and my LDL cholesterol increased to 275 . I am waiting for opinions sisters and brothers Thank you 🙏🏻

I’m very excited. My brother and I ate tons of them as children and lost track of them. Now older and plant based I’ve been eating a lot of fruit. Now I’m realizing too much. I’m gonna replace half of them with OATMEAL and my daily blueberries. Such a beautiful, wise and kind family. Blessings to you all

I also eat oats for breakfast with frozen blueberries, blackberries and strawberries with unsweetened soy milk. However I did read that you should not mix bananas with the berries something to do with the way a banana ripens cancelling out the effect of the berries. I also add flax seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and wheatgerm,.

@@zinnia3684 and then it will go back down. Temporary spikes are not dangerous, it’s the average over time that’s important. That’s why the hemoglobin A1C test is so critical - it tests average blood sugar levels over the previous 3 months .

love watching your videos!! 18 months ago I went 100% plant based whole foods. I am 62, female, 125lbs, 5'6" and had cholesterol numbers in the 250's. I tried for years to adjust my diet to reduce cholesterol naturally since I blatantly refuse to use statins. It wasn't until I watched various documentaries about PBWF that I decided to try it. I had already given up dairy and all meat besides chicken, so it wasn't a giant leap for me. However, it had a GIANT impact on my cholesterol dropping 100 points by the time I was tested 6 months later. My weight also went down and I have leveled out at about 117 (my high school weight). I never feel deprived and I will never go back. I also LOVE oats. Every morning I look forward to a big bowl of steel cut oats with organic soy milk, ground flax seed and organic blueberries from my own garden. I feel GREAT!

What a wonderful way to start my morning on New Years Day. Love seeing the family together. I call my daughter sweetie, too. I started the whole food plant based diet April1, 2019. I was 64 and lost 25 pounds. My blood sugar and blood pressure both went to normal. My doctor asked me what I was doing. When I told him, he said, “Keep doing that.” I looove oats. I can live on oats with or without fruit. Thank you so much for the easy recipes!

I eat organic steel cut oats, uncooked, at least 6 days a week. I add walnuts, sunflower seeds, ground flaxseed, cinammon, turmeric, blueberries and sliced bannanas to the bowl. I top it off with oak milk. It's so filling, I have to remind myself to eat lunch (generally steamed cruciferous vegetables) between 2-3pm.

This year I discovered I have a sensitivity to the primary protein in oats. I can't eat them any more. They create a low grade inflammation and my nose runs all night long. Since I stopped eating them my nose no longer runs and my big toe that I broke no longer hurts all the time. I am devastated but it is what it is. Isn't that something? I centered my life on oats. I am happy for all of you. I love watching your videos.
