Once my husband and I took our kids to one of the very few black owned bookstores in our area. The owner happened to be there. She was very nice and chatted with us for a while. After we browsed, and we each chose a few books ( we have 4 teenagers and 3 of them love to read) the owner totaled everything us and told us the price which was around $350, I can’t remember exactly. My husband immediately started trying to negotiate and I could have died from embarrassment right there. I literally had to interrupt him, pull him to the side and explain to him how rude and embarrassing that was. Everything we picked up had a price on it and he wouldn’t have done that at Barnes & Nobles. He apologized, and paid what we owed. He’s not a bad guy, but sometimes people just don’t think. I had to school him that day and he learned to do better.

I had this conversation with my husband who is an electrician. He tells. me people who buy big screen tv’s and want them hung up for $50, when the job can go up to $300. These people don’t take into consideration that the tv’s need a separate outlet and such to make them look like it should .

I know that most people are taking this as a good business lesson (which we should) BUT we ALL need to also take this as a LIFE LESSON as well! A LOT of us (especially B women) need to learn our worth and accept NOTHING less! Your worth is your worth and you cost what you cost!
