As a software engineer who has tried game development plenty of times, i can tell you the two roles are very different. You need a completely different mindset. It is like asking a traditional French chef to design a McDonald's ice cream machine that doesn't break. Both roles are within the same general category (programming or food), but deal with vastly different challenges.

Yeah, that's not true at all, theyve been extremely anal for years about people saying exactly whats on their script, which is why all their spots sound identical. Apparently they're allowing more freedom with kira here, and maybe their marketing team is changing their rules, but this is new.
@KiraTV13 жыл бұрын
Most sponsors at a certain level want you to do things a certain way. I go out of my way to make sure I do things my way or it's the highway. Before negotiations even start I make it clear I will read no scripts and I will not lie or say things that I don't believe. Which is why I do vastly less sponsors than a lot of other channels despite having constant offers. I do what I want and that won't ever change, the minute a company asks me to not do it in the way I want, I cancel the contract and move on.

@@qelfan9711 bullshit. A few youtubers I have watched are sponsored by Raid, and one of the things they cite about them, is that Raid is one of the FEW sponsors, that A--will sponsor even somewhat (buy youtube standards) dubious content--ie channels about guns, swords, and things like that. Those channels don't get a lot of sponsers because of the nature of their content--and B, let them really say what they will about it. So it seems that Raid is actually a lot more free when it comes to videos they will sponser, and that is a good thing because it gives youtubers like Kira, a chance to make money. AND, if you ever actually played one of their games, you would see it actually is pretty fun for what it is.

So being a game dev student. We are encouraged to use asset store items, ONLY IF we are running out of time or if we lack the people or skills to make those items. A lot of devs, mostly indie will do this, especially if it's just one person. More experienced people, will only buy asset store items for the code or blueprint and frankentstein a game using that, while making all their own models, particle effect, etc.
@DawnBriarDev Жыл бұрын
I have to have this rant as a solo developer about these kinds of stories: You know, I'm confident in my ability to meet my promises in making my own game. But there's a difference between "confident" and "advertising and gathering large amounts of money for a game that isn't remotely playable." My game, as far as the public is concerned, is not even a product yet: Except in that it's the experience of learning to make a game and spending massive amounts of time on the process. The only thing I ever provide in relation to it is conceptual discussion about game design itself, or occasionally hands on help with someone else's project. I haven't advertised a game: I've advertised that I am making my own, as a self taught developer who works 18 hours a day at it. But nowhere have I said "buy my game, fund my game" or any of that. I opened a Patreon recently (I only even made the Patreon because a surprise medical bill caught me unaware two days after my only two regulars asked for a way to contribute financially,) but it's literally for a single perk: Gain access to the Discord where I post devlogs that aren't complete enough to be official posts, gain hands on assistance with concepts and implementation in your own game. Make your own passion project alongside my own, in the place where I DON'T filter the updates and worklogs I post. And it's all based on real, honest promises. "I'm making a game." No publication date, because I'm not SELLING a game, I'm developing it. I literally only offer ADVICE from my own experience, which I market as a unique PERSPECTIVE. Because that is exactly what I offer. So it disgusts me doubly to watch these kinds of videos. Because I should be that stereotype for the lowest level of quality imaginable. Yet, if you saw my devlogs for a game I'm not selling or advertising as a game (but rather just the process of game development itself and learning about it): The parts of it that are finished are at a higher level of quality than most games that fill themselves to the brim with cash shop purchases. I don't think the trope of "new developer = bad" is accurate. No, I know it isn't. The problem isn't that they're new.. It's that they're dishonest and insincere. They have no intention of putting in effort and committing over a long enough time to make anything decent (well, that and they all seem to think they'll make an MMO.... Pick another genre, seriously.) They aren't making a passion project, they're just lazy, opportunistic scammers.

How can anyone hear the phrase "every game genre in one game" and think that's even a remotely good idea? It would be a game that has voxel models alongside realistic 3D models and various styles of 2D assets. It would be a dungeon crawler, platformer and open world game in one. It would have kid friendly "learning how to type" stuff existing in the same game as psychological horror, gore and sexual content. All those things are genres in their own right. And some genres can absolutely not coexist with each other. Any gamer would know that. So it really confuses me how they'd even think this would work.

I had a short lived job selling vacuum cleaners back in the early 90’s working 10+ hours a day. I only got paid if I made a sale, which only happened once (about $100) in my 2 weeks working there. Gas money, what’s that?🤔 They had some of us putting flyers in mailboxes while the rest responded to the suckers, err potential customers, that called back for a free in home demo. The company also offered a free 35mm camera for letting people like me demo the “best” vacuum cleaner ever invented. After the demo, we gave them a $1 camera that wasn’t even capable of taking a picture as compensation for their time. Keep in mind, this was during a time before cell phones as we know them today. Having a decent camera in the family was something that a lot of people valued, and was possibly the reason why weird uncle Bob came to all of the barbecues .😃 My long-winded story is to point out that scammers have been around forever, and these guys aren’t all that impressive, yet they’ve managed to make far more money than I did as a vacuum cleaner salesman. I guess I can somewhat respect the hustle since I have nothing to lose on this one. Dreamworld is not a new scam, and I honestly believe that karma is a thing they’ll have to deal with eventually. Thank you for doing your part in warning good people about giving straight-up scammers their money.👍
