I have never volunteered in any of these shops, but it is common knowledge that “some” of the staff, help themselves to the stock even before it goes on the shelves, don’t tell us about the cost of running the shop, when this all comes down to f…ing greed. Karinmuirhead and staff stealing. Thank you Geelong flipper for highlighting the issues, “charity”

Even my most loathed op shop in my town has lowered their prices. I spoke with the woman there and she said they couldn’t move enough stock at the prices the previous manager had on everything. Then she said if i find any price tags dated last year, she would review the price for me. This gives me hope for the future.

I get so conflicted when i see a reseller complain about prices. I love watching these kind of videos. And when im at a thrift shop i see if theres something i can sell myself. But these stores were originally designed for people that are hard on money to get stuff a bit cheaper. I feel for those people having to constantly compete with resellers. Imagine someone that can't afford a designer bit of clothing that misses out on a good deal because 5 resellers have gone over the store befoe they went in.
@geelong-flipperАй бұрын
@@krammis76 unfortunately that has not been the case for a very long time. As an ex charity employee, I can tell you right now that all they care about is raising money to do their charity work and to pay staff wages it’s not about providing cheap clothing for people it is all about the power of the dollar. Also, you might not mean this, but we have to buy the stock so we take the risk and if it doesn’t sell, we have to let it sit in our homes, reminding us of the mistake we made whereas they get their stock for free.

Hey there! I just made a sale on eBay of a paperback book. It cost me more to post than I made on it. Auspost is a bloody rort. Any tips on posting items more cheaply? Cost me over $12! Cheers!

I volunteer in an opshop… we have to pay rent, rates, cost of sending stuff to the tip. We also raise funds for charity… we try to help those buy what they need plus provide food banks, scholarships and homeless. The gear is given to us to help others, and so we do that. It’s not our job to clean, organise and provide a place for you to make a living. Glad if you do, but the funds in the op shop I volunteer is completely staffed by volunteers.. including the CEO.

Except you dont pay tax. Your stock is free. Yes there are costs but i feel op shops are more concerned with resellers and preventing them from making money. Instead of thinking they are helping some people earn extra money to put food on the table. Pensioners making a couple of dollars to supplement there pension. Its all how you look at it.

Why would op shops care about resellers? Their prices are still lower than eBay. Op shop is an actual running business, resellers just keep shit in their apartments and hope for the high profit margin from 2 dollars buys. Open your own op shop and I will see you talk in 2 years

Resellers are a third of an opshops business. So yes you should care. You should also care that jacking up prices to hinder reseller also hinders those that need to buy second hand to cloth themselves. People are just trying to survive its not an easy gig reselling. I have lived both ends of the deal . I have run an second hand shop and been a reseller. Add to the fact so many op shops are begging for volunteers i suspect because you voluteer to help people not businesses .Plus the abuse they would cop due to high prices.
