Since you unhinged freaks are getting your assholes in a twist over this vid, lemme say a few things: I fucking love the Richard Williams version, so much so I travelled all the way to London to watch a screening of it back in 2018 under a year before his death. I adore this film, I adore the work, the love and the thought that went into it. I hate the fact that it was butchered by American producers. I will never condone or defend what happened to the film. That does not mean that I cannot poke fun at or enjoy some of the content within the butchered versions of this film. If there is anything positive we can take away from these things it's the meme-worthy moments they gave us. I actually think Steve Lively is the saving grace for the Aussie version. Sure, it's not perfect and he deserved better material but he does bring a boyish warmth to the character that's vastly more pleasant to listen to than Matthew Broderick. This video was just a compilation of Lively's performance. I made it partly out of appreciation for his voice acting work, the character and because he does have some somewhat funny lines and animation when he speaks. It's a shitpost, it's not that fucking deep. Have a laugh, relax, enjoy the funni cobbler going brr.

This^ I agree with you 110%! I adore Richard Williams' original workprint, but I also enjoy "The Princess and the Cobbler" as a guilty pleasure. I don't love it over Williams' original work, but I do favor it a lot more than Miramax, for obvious reasons. Personally, I appreciate how "The Princess and the Cobbler" paid little odes to Williams' vision by keeping the thief silent, not adding nonsensical monologue for everything happening on screen, no pop culture references (especially to Aladdin), and yes, Tack talks here, but at least it's limited. Plus, I also love Steve Lively's voice! It is so soothing! He has a lot more emotion and care into his role than Matthew Broderick who plays Tack in monotone (he is just reading his lines, but who could blame him with the long monologue script they gave him?). I also appreciate "The Princess and the Cobbler" for having the voice actors of Tack and Yum Yum be both the speakers AND singers for a smoother transition to the musical numbers. Nothing against voice doubles! I just like it when there is a smooth transition with singers who sound similar to the voice actors, or vice versa. Steve Lively's singing coming out after Matthew Broderick is an odd transition. Thank you for this compilation!

"Why can't I ever talk when it matters?" That sounds like a complaint the writers or the actor were throwing in at Hollywood for giving Tack a voice when he didn't really need one. The studios just don't like mute characters as heroes and they wasted Tack's breath on lines we didn't need to hear. We understand Tack well enough without his shy dialogue or narration and his last scene with Yum Yum was the only time where it felt like a nice way for him to break his silence.

Hot take: After hearing about the whole story, I saw the original version on here and then checked out this version (it's actually pretty enjoyable, feels more complete and not overly Disney-ish) and I actually CAN see Tack being selectively mute, only talking when important or comfortable with someone (Princess Yum-Yum for example!) This voice fits him better IMO. If ONLY if there was a way to seamlessly combine both versions in a way that respects Richard Williams's original vision and has something that everyone likes! My personal take: I'd cut out some of the narration and extra dialouge, the brigands' music number, add some of the original scenes that weren't included in the film and I think we've got something!

now while i do think him being mute is a good character choice, i do think his voice is very fitting for him

I'll take this voice over the Arabian Night version any day.

In the version of this movie that I watched recently Tack only spoke once, when he said “And I love you” and his voice was so deep it seemed unreal to me and didn’t feel right. I much like this version of him better and find it so cute!! But either way I love him dearly

*OOF* I liked the fact that he never spoke. His emotions and intentions still rang out clear. It made the one and only time he actually spoke, THAT much more meaningful. 😫

Tack's better when he's not talking, but I'll admit this voice suits him. Lmao, the whole movie and all its versions feel like a strange fever dream for some reason

... Am I the only one who thinks that Tack looks SLIGHTLY better when he's speaking?
@stevepensando25932 жыл бұрын
That's because the scenes where he's talking were done by Fred Calvert's team. The rest of them were animated by Richard Williams

The character is no doubt more fascinating as the preferable mute version, so regardless, giving him a voice was going to be... a Tacky move.😎

I always imagine him to have this type of soft, boyish voice. So when I watched the recobbled version and heard his deep ass voice at the end I was disappointed. So happy to see this version!
@Willow_Ethelson2 жыл бұрын
OH MY GOD I CAN'T! On the one hand, this voice is very well chosen for him and it sounds very nice, but damn, we then lose his charm and the original idea that the tacks he holds in his mouth shape his expressions and only in this way we see his emotions. But the most important thing is that the final scene with the confession of love to the princess completely loses its value, charm and emotionality 😢

Steve Lively is kinda underrated. Matthew Broderick should go hide under a rock before the cult of Miramax haters come after him lol.

He sounds super CUTEE! but its a bit better when hes mute, it adds mysterious detail about the character and he seems more innocent and shy that way.
