This is a video that clearly relates more to the concept of "the eye of the beholder" than any actual final truth.. To some degree I even suspect that this person chose to have an opinion SPECIFICALLY because he could "glue" himself to a popular TV show and get media attention from it.. But that is only a guess on my part as I don't know this person. My ACTUAL reasoning for commenting is because I KNOW that a lot of what he is saying is not really a fundamental truth, but rather (as I mentioned) because he is selling a specific perspective. He claims that Indians are presented in a negative way (he defines himself as a "victim" for a bad/costly prejudice)... Possible.. ... however.. if we are trying to debate stereotypes and the consequences of their portrayal.... what is the consequence of Homer in regard to people being overweight? If we were comparing the situations I'd say that Indians should STILL be happy over Apu, but overweight people should be livid. "It's something, at the very least on a superficial level".. .. it's intended to be a light-hearted fun cartoon.. EVERYTHING is on a superficial level..This type of cartoon is NOT intened to be telling people how to think.. they are trying to take what people MIGHT think and expect.. and ADD things to it to create some sort of absurdity that people will find amusing.. I Am obese.. EVEN if I do recognize the joke (and loved it), I can say that Homer (whom I love).. is a horrible character.. f.ex. the quote of his "AWWWW, but I want it NOW!!!" when he is told how QUICKLY a fryer could fry.. How does this depict overweight people??.. in society there are a LOT of people trying to claim that specific people are "lazy" or "just looking for the easy way out".. so.. what about when homer tried to get obese enough to be able to use laws and regulations to FORCE his employer to set it up for him so he could work for home.. and even worse, even when he finally GOT to work for home he wanted that toy to click the button FOR HIM???.. yes.. obese people are lazy.. I get it.. you think Apu is a bad stereotype for indian people?.. please.. if we are talking about "messages" being sent by a cartoon, indians should STILL be happy for Apu in simpons, because Apu was pressented in a POSITIVE light.. the ONLY things where you could claim that there was some negativity thrown his way it was NOT because of his ethnicity, but rather because of the specific job he held.. people do NOT have a lot of trust in regards to all-night convenience stores/kiosks.. ...... Anyone care enough about what I already say to know how I would continue, feel free to sak.. if you disagree.. feel free to do so. ... If we discuss what humour IS.. (Including this styled type of cartoons).. then the top question is.. "why is something funny".. if you ask me the part of the mind that gets tickled and gets you to laugh.. is when the mind don't know WHAT to make out of something.. Technically what I am talking about is a specific type of "dissonance".. a "conflict" between the "expected" (well known) and the unexpected.... There are many words I want to throw in to this mix.. like.. "comfort".. . (at the very least this is how I think about "good" humour.. good humour is a reaction based on how you perceive the world to be, and get surprised by something.. BAD humour is when you laugh at an insult.. some racially based jokes, some gender based jokes, and a lot of other jokes are bad jokes.. they ONLY work for people who share the same prejudice.. I do think the same rules KIND of applies.. more exactly the conflict perceived is between what is socially acceptable, and what is NOT socially acceptable.. but.. if social acceptance in itself is the ONLY cornerstone of a joke, then it's probably something that ONLY people who kind of wish they COULD break social protocol will be the only ones who find it funny).. and yes.. in cartoons (and comedy).. stereotypes are often used as a place-holder or an easy way to describe something.. so.. it's absolutely too simplified to be defined as a good way to describe anyone.. but then again.. apu?.. really?.. if anything you should be horrified how Simpsons depict obese people.. or kids that get in trouble in class (and the teacher blame the kid, not their own lack of understanding of various problems that people might have.. I suspect Bart is suffering from both ADHD and autism.. and if the teacher actually did her job she would mitigate it.. if the parents knew how this works they too could make things better- they even have more influence than the teacher. but... no one put a spotlight on this problem.. it's about either blaming the child, or trying to think it to be a "boys will be boys".. which in itself is a problem if we are thinking about the problem with chauvinistic culture making excuses for men doing bad things.... )... aaand.. so on.. ... I would never tell anyone to lighten up. but.. if we are to look at the Simpsons from the ACTUAL messages sent.. then even WITH Apu, they are PRO indian.. (and putting a spotlight on how immigrants with high IQ and a lot of education STILL end up in ungrateful jobs where they literally might get shot and disrespected).. but DO ridicule people who are overweight, have learning disabilities, and so on.. This dude protest how things are presented in a blasé and oversimplified way.. and ignores the fact that EVERYONE is presented in that way (it's kind of part of the humorous light-hearted cartoon format)... .... and he objects to the one person who is the LEAST presented in that way?..

Notice how he doesn't complain over Hank Ariza voicing African American characters on the Simpson's

If Hank dies, they shall make an episode where every single remaining character dies, 'cause there's no other man who can replace him.
@CosmoShidan4 жыл бұрын
So what's your solution? Should the Simpsons staff hire more black writers and voice actors to replace Hank Azaria?
@dannythomas4174 жыл бұрын
@CosmoShidan Hank is irreplaceable. But Harry isn't. When he dies, Kevin should take over for Dr. Hibbert & Judge Snyder.
@CosmoShidan4 жыл бұрын
@@dannythomas417 You mean a black man should take the place of Hibber and Snyder? Because Harry Sharer should not be playing black men either as they are mistral caricatures. Same goes for Hank's caricatures.

Why is Apu a negative stereotype? He went from India to study in the USA, opened a business and made friends and was granted citizenship. Sounds like the American Dream?

@@ColtraneTaylor yea I have watched it and all he does is point out the negative aspects of the character rather then the good. It's all about perception. He obviously is using Apu to reflect his own negative experiences but i use Apu to reflect my own positive experiences. You can not blame the cartoon character for racism that was inflicted upon you. Also all of the Simpsons characters are stereotypes. Ground Keeper Willie, Fat Tony, Krusty the Clown, Akira, Homer, Dr Nick. And lastly Simpsons has gone completely crap since season 10, they really need to end it. The humour has changed and the old humour is dated now. This was 90s cartoon after all

@@Bluewizard35728 Most of the whites especially, enjoying the Simpsons like having an "Apu" who knows his place. Their good natured tolerance vanishes quick if you challenge their perception of the world. Ask about BLM for instance and their mood changes fast. Indians are not a huge target normally because they can pick on blacks. Or Muslims/Jews first.

What is the problem with Apu? Has travel in a large part, of India, with Train, bicycle, horses, etc. From New Delhi, Amritsar, Varanasi and down to Orissa. From north to south. All 98% of English speaking men and women i meet, talking as Apu. In The Simpsons. Maybe was there people, there not talking as Apu, dit not meet them.

Well what is about me? I'm German. Am I offenders by Uter? No because I used what I called comment sence and I know that he is a sterotyp. Apu is also kinda a sterotype. But he is successful. He runs his own business, he has 8 children and a wife. He also is now American by hard work ( he know a lof of America). He can be a positive image of what an immigration can be. I don't think there is a lot of person in Springfield that hate Apu because of his origins. I am sure if I search Bollywood films or Hollywood films I can find a lot of German guys that are nazis. Well is Germany now a nazi State No. Am I tired of that sterotype? Yes a little bit. What do I try to say with that? Nothing. And if you had a problem with that why didn't you go and write a letter to the creators of the simpsons and ask what the simpsons are. Maybe just say : Let Apu voice by an American Indian voice actor.

I’m Australian, and my favourite episode of the simpsons is the Australian episode. I’ve dealt with “knifey spooney” stereotypes. The amount of foreigners that think Australians drink fosters (despite it being an English drink). They even put an ass on our flag. Not to mention all the voices were done by Americans with exadurated Australian accents. It doesn’t get to me at all. It’s called having a laugh at yourself. This guy is such a whiner

Such crying, thin skin baby. Indian accent is hilariously funny, period. If you don't like people to make fun of that, then try to improve it. States makes racist jokes all the time, if you can't handle it, then move out to a different country. I'm mexican and I love my Mexican racist, stereotypical representation in The Simpsons.
