Some influencers overconsume on an unhealthy level and by making videos about it are influencing others to do the same. I understand something like buying lots of used dolls once in a while, especially for artists, customizers, restorers, and resellers. But to consistently obtain 30 to 50 new dolls every month? How can you appreciate the individual dolls this way? There's nothing wrong with buying something to enjoy and reward yourself for working hard. BUT there has to be a balance.

i agree , everyone is so stuck on social media that they dont get to enjoy the dolls/ collecting experience. generally they become airheads sadly.

I'm going to have to agree with you. There is definitely a big issue with "airheads" and self-centered or rude people in this community. I have come across a lot of bad apples. Thank you for watching! I really do appreciate your comment, too. 😁

I don't want anyone to feel like they have to chase after something or keep up with the latest trends and dolls just because that's what other people are doing. What's most important is authenticity. Being yourself, doing what makes YOU happy and spending your time (and money) wisely. The thing I enjoy most about dolls is art. I love doll customization, history, restoration, etc. I love it when people are creative with how they paint, restyle or display their dolls. It shows so much of their individual identities that, in my opinion, cannot and should not be replicated. The dolls I buy are all second-hand. They are matted and heavily played with, broken or have scribbles on their faces. No kid would want them but to me they are canvases for my art. I only buy them if i have a vision or an idea of what to make of them, never just for the sake of having more. I sincerely wish that all doll-lovers can find their personal reasons for why they collect dolls and aren't just doing it because their favorite influencer does. Please, don't buy dolls you don't like or can't afford. It'll only make you miserable. Hobbies are meant to be fun and rewarding, so do what YOU want to do. Take care of yourselves, people.

I appreciate your video. I didn’t realize how much I needed to hear this. I have been influenced for a long time on what dolls to like. It’s hard not to want dolls that many influencers say is the best doll ever. Honestly, I wish more influencers would talk about their regrets buying popular dolls. I have just started collecting my first doll line, Zombaes Forever dolls. I think they’re beautiful but I haven’t seen much content on them. It almost makes me think the the dolls are a waste of time. But, watching your video reminded me to enjoy dolls for myself. These dolls make me happy. So I’ll enjoy them just for me now ❤ Also, my favorite kind of doll content to watch is doll organization videos and doll regrets. I wish more people would realize they have FOMO about dolls. I think you’re right that it’s important to develop friendships outside online spaces. This would help people realize their hyper consumption of dolls and being surrounded by dolls you don’t truly care about is stressful. Thank you for reading my long comment!

Honestly, I don't buy every doll. I used to buy lots of dolls because I was living in a horrible place. I felt alone a lot of times. Dolls were my only happiness. I later sold and donated lots of dolls. Because I've been much happier. I don't have any more room for dolls.

Absolutely loved hearing you say a lot of things that I a 💯per cent agree with. Very well-informed and succinctly to the point, this was a great listen that I thank you for. The community needs a lot more videos of this kind! Take care.

I really try to consider if I love a doll and if she fits into my collection before I buy her. I only started collecting last year, but feel already that I need to take a break and just appreciate the dolls I have. So I'm trying not to actively want or look for anything

I've been collecting on and off for decades. I definitely got pickier about my purchases as my knowledge grew, and my appreciation for details and quality differences grew. I am guilty though, of falling down a few rabbit holes and going on binges. Especially when I discovered eBay and could buy the dolls I couldn't afford as a kid. 😬 I'm more interested now in renovating the house and constructing my dedicated space so I can have them around me to enjoy rather than in totes and boxes hidden from view. 😔 I definitely relate with wanting to take a break and just appreciate the treasures I have. 🙂👍

This was an interesting video. You make many great points. In the end we should all just have fun and share what we love in our own style. If people want to watch they will. I totally agree that we don’t need to look like our dolls. 😂

I've thought about launching my own channel just to be able to connect with other collectors. Possibly document on video the process of setting up my space and displays and talking about each category. Also, sharing what I've learned over the years. 🤔 I also love puppetry and stop motion animation. But it would definitely be for pure enjoyment and human interaction. ♥️✌️🙂🖐️ Thanks very much for this, you make a lot of good points. 👍

I agree and disagree with you and definitely understand you. My main collection is all about information about what dolls and action figures that been or will be released. Except that I like to create different things. Of course I buy some dolls and action figues mostly fot their clothes and accessories. But never based on what I see other post. When I post something I do it because I truly believe the community need to know the content and I got it and can provide it. I also gather links to patterns and other creators creations in playlists. Most of the videos I make contents had probably been made even without filming it but can I inspire someone to create something out of what i done it's great.

I collect Rainbow/Shadow High dolls and yes...the pressure to buy every doll is real not only from the influencers but their viewers too. I absolutely fell in love with the diversity and fashions of series 2-5 of RH and series 1&2 of Shadow High. However...I absolutely do not like MGA's re-boot of the core RH dolls for many reasons. I don't care how many people post about how much they like the new lines...RH going forward is dead to me. I'll enthusiastically still try to obtain certain ones from the releases up to this year. I don't want a room crammed full of dolls. I have a lovely medium-sized collection that I love dearly.

I did get the twins and a couple of others. I love the colors and diversity. That's what attracted me to Monster High also (Freak du Chic, I love circus themes) 🙂🖐️

Not really a doll collector, but a customizer. As someone who thinks that my customizations aren’t that great compared to someone like Dolljunk or Hextian, I really needed to hear this

I feel you bring up valid points. But it is the nature of being a toy collector content creator. Unless your working with one of the brands to get free PR products, buying dolls for views is the main way to stay relevant. It’s a lot. It’s why there aren’t many doll collector creators.

This is a great video with so many great points that I definitely have thoughts on but would be word vomit if I tried to type it out. I’ve been wanting to make videos like this to diversify my content (not that im a popular or consistent uploaded anyway )
