Thank you for touching on the discrimination towards single Desi women! Before my wedding this past March, from around age 21, I was treated like I was invisible and not worth talking to (unless a rishta aunty was approaching me). And the very few times I was spoken to it was to ask when I'm getting married so I can stop being a burden on my family. My younger sister got married before me, and I started to notice how different people treated us. I was always happy she found someone, but instead of letting me enjoy her wedding, aunties were just harassing me about my situation. It's like they couldn't tolerate me and my contentment. Then it all changed when my engagement was announced this year. People started being really nice to me and it felt fake and off putting. Like how does my being married change your lives? How am I worthy of being seen as a human being all of a sudden? I was always me and I'm still me? I said this to a friend the other day "bachelors, masters, PhD Kuch nahi jab tak larki Mrs nahi Karti." Oof our culture makes me cringe sometimes.

I hate that some people justify honor culture by saying that it puts women in check so that they don't commit any sins. They fail to realise that most of these sins are initiated by men , and that they should be held equally responsible for their action if they commit a sin. There's also this saying that my mom always uses , " A woman is like a white cloth, any little stain will ruin the cloth similar to her honour and reputation in society" ... I hate this so much that we have to constantly live in fear of not living up to our parents' expectations or god-forbid lose all our honour and end up dead.

Love that you covered this topic! I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I’m 25 and unmarried and I feel like some people just don’t respect me as much as they respect my married friends/family members. I also feel like my life can’t truly begin until I have a husband-something I’m working hard to unlearn. Girl don’t even get me started on visiting back home-I live in US and visited India this past summer lol, everyone was pitying me so much and bringing up my unmarried self at every opportunity; the way Desis can relate anything to marriage should be considered an art form.

I totally agree with the last point on men being involved. Men need to be allies and speak up for the women of their family. Not just get activated when there is a perceived slight on the "honor" of the family. Stand up for your mothers, sisters, daughters. If you don't then you're just as bad, in my opinion, as the people doing the honor killings because you aren't doing anything to stop it.

Connected with this, we should also call out the brothers with double standards. These guys do it all before marriage and then all of a sudden they become religious. They grow a beard and want to 'good' virgin wife. They also start lecturing others. Weddings have become 'lavish' only recently when Pakistanis from the cities started arriving in the west. When I was a kid and it was mainly Kashmiris outside of Pakistan the wedding was simple, on tables with a paper covering, and everyone helped out serving and cleaning the tables. Bling bling weddings have gradually crept in over the past 20 years.

They even depict the process of grooming her by promising her gifts and candy etc etc. She eventually gets pregnant (of course years later, but who really knows how long they waited) and gets a daughter to the husbands dismay. They show the husband and daughter growing a bond despite his wishes of wanting all sons, and totally gloss over the “13 year old getting married to a man” plot which i guess was never even a conflict to begin with

I love how you compared marriage to fast fashion - I had to watch that bit twice. Thank you for talking about this so openly and being honest I think the "honour" system is deeply rooted in the old, tribal, feudal systems where mistakes were paid for using someone's life and disputes were not settled in a civilised way, but with physical fights, and of course whoever won the fight would have their prestige restored. I think this affected both sexes, but at the same time, it probably mutated to involve only women as these "bargaining chips" and even if men were fighting, for some reason, the women would be dragged into it in order to disgrace and humiliate the family. It's all one big branch of this huge monster called patriarchy and sadly, no place on Earth is protected from this monster This system is probably centuries and centuries old and definitely nothing new or brought in by colonialism Thank you again for talking about this, your channel is great, so many funny vids too

From Sri Lanka... You can't be correct anymore. In our country women have little bit more freedom more than Pakistani women because of the religious background I guess. In this area of the world you become impure to marriage when you are a victim of rape, and it's completely your fault to get raped, they try to blame on your dress, if they failed to blame on that then they turn to the place you have been, if still can't detect anything they just say women should be women. What an enlightened region!! In our country women are not allowed to many religious places because we are impure and buddhist monks fearlessly preach men how to mistreat women. So yeah, South Asia is a fucked up place which is a iced 💩 ! Culture is every thing which is demeaning and hazardous to its people.

Like the Quran we have a holy book called thripitaka which was written after thousand years of buddha's departure and it has so many lies sometimes. Not married into desi culture but another country with honour culture. In my experience, if they (the women mainly) don’t approve of you, they will go ten-toes-down into character assassination (to remove the little honour you did have), and others that don’t partake, will remain quite so they are not in the out-group too. Luckily, because you are from outside that culture, in the real world, it’s not too impactful (unless you live with them).

Yeah as a Pakistani Male I feel like they just expect this 1950s lifestyle of I go to school I go to college I graduate I get a job i now have the big flashy wedding the house car and wife.heck some will call you a fauilure or bitter if you fail to met these life expectations.and these dudes be 3G in and have yet still not integrated and fall into this culture.thats becuse of racially IQ which I won’t get into becuse a lot of ppl from South Asia tend to marry there cousion causing lots of inbreeding and health problems.some woman just use them for the passport or other way round.then they all squash into the hillbilly inbreed Alabama house all hate eachother but refuse to leave becuse my god the shock and horror of what other ppl might think of us.so they deliberately oppress themselves to these woman you can legally divorce these men if you refuse due to social reasons that’s ur own fault the court is not gonna side with you if you use the excuse I was afraid of what others may think.also these woman know islamphobic sterotypes and will infact use islamphobia and western ignorance to leave there husbands by doing the typical he imposed shariah law on me he was typical Taliban and the courts fall for it.even tho Indians do thus way more than Muslims but Hindus dont get nearly enough slack as Muslims do when it comes to femanisium.so yeah sure the western way of being a step dad to someone’s seconds who pumped and dumped will gross all men out from all cultures.so that’s not a cultural thing at all also once these Indian desi woman get married it’s the if I have a PHD he must have a Masters that men are just giving up on these aggressive entitled Karen’s who have been emboldened by femanisium LGBT and other Woke movements.just watch the Netflix trailer Indian match making and you see why these men run away from woman like that.also there is a video called the “sand man” who just made a video on these westernised desi woman as a white polish guy.but back on topic yeah it’s a very tribalistic collective culture that I think my cousion got drunk and hit a guy at the night club and got charged for assault and why on Earth was my entire family being judged for it.even in big cities they still centralise and gossip and still turn east London into a Pakistani villiage.as to why sometimes I just lie and say I’m Mexican when I get a cab becuse the guy is gonna want so much info on me,so yeah the gossip is very annoying social media has only made this worse.also there is no love in these relationship you have to met someone there has to be some form of physical and personal attraction.other races are naturally selected we are domesticated it’s like a zoo with the rishtas like a job interview and come one how can you expect a romantic relationship of that and the topic of the conversation is just economic flexing.other races met via activities clubs the gym school natural ways to met ppl.arranged marriage is not natural.and becuse of this many south Asians lack game charisma and style to even have a conversation with the opposite gender here in the UK majority of the sex offenders are Indian becuse you have these men brought for economic reasons can’t import there wife’s don’t know how to get white woman and then they say weird stuff on social media or they even stalk and groupe that blonde girl who unlike a desi is gonna throw the book on his ass.so now raja the accountant is in jail for sexuail assault.western woman don’t care about ur job ur income ur family status.that I think Pakistani men are starting to feel this as well as East Asian men who have honour culture.however East Asian woman have just moved onto white guys I don’t see if we’re so bad you guys just don’t do the same thing becuse you’re still that scared of being judged my god.so these woman choose there own oppression go out with a western guy then they still never do atleast yellow woman have relised this and just Leaft for white men.but then if you open up more we will now get to the point of no slut shaming kink only fans and other degenerate shit we have today so Ive seen if you open Pandora’s box like the west that’s what ur gonna get.so ppl might have been more open minded if this Woke crap never took over.then they bring Islam into thus when I was in Egypt I seen guys and girls mixing so the Arabs and Turks are abit more liberal but Indians and Pakistanis are not but that’s what western ppl will think Islam is.when it’s not

@LittleBarbiex0 11 ай бұрын
Albanian , Serbian and Greek are three completely different ethnicities with completely different languages and completely different ancestors. I am Albanian therefore I can’t speak for neither Greeks nor Serbs. The only thing I can say is that majority of Albanians are Muslim whereas the majority of Serbs and Greeks are Eastern Orthodox.

You don't understand these things because you aren't inside the culture. America and US are like apples and oranges. There are somethings that I don't like about our norms and culture, but overall it's good. This culture developed on a period of thousands of years, it's meant and suitable for us. These two centuries of radical thoughts and ideologies in the Western part of Europe are not going to make us forget it. Our culture is Stable, it is still here because it works; we will get rid of unislamic things but nothing else. The normal of Western psyche and the Normal of Eastern one aren't compatible. I can't tell you that you're wrong if you do the most outrageous things in the Human History, even though they are wrong according to me. Like wise you can't dictate to me that my culture is backwards, uncivilized etc. I can say these things too because our normal is very different. To understand a Culture, become it's part. Sorry for the whole article, but it is well deserved because of the constant rants of people who have adjusted in the West and can no longer understand our Culture.

Killing a woman for a man’s sin will never be a stable system. Especially when the culture relies so heavily on women. Eventually women will revolt if you do not change.
