I don't like the term millennial and the birth year range involved... Someone who is born in the late 90's has had a VASTLY different upbringing than someone born in the early 80's.
@JonathanSprinkles8 жыл бұрын
Vastly in what way? It's true that there are variations within generations at either bookend. That's normal.
@nicholasgiulotti8 жыл бұрын
Those born in the early to mid 80's grew up during their most formative years (mid to late teens) before the leap in technology (i.e. smartphones, iPods, high internet/download speeds, texting, social media etc.) that occurred with those born in the mid to late 90's. For those born in the early to mid 80's, most of those things weren't even invented yet until after high school when the 80's babies became adults. This has made the upbringings of both groups vastly different. Just like the upbringing of those born in the 80's are different than those born in the 70's... and so on and so on. I agree with the concept of the millenial (even though I said I didn't like the term) and I agree with what was said in the video - I'm just not particularly fond of the age range that is involved.
@timogden15938 жыл бұрын
Nick Gotti I agree, I was born in 1981 and growing up I was labeled as Gen x. Internet was just taking off when I was in high school and it was starting to make improvements when I was in college ie. ethernet! as a kid the only technology in my life was an atari. I played outside and had an imagination. now they are trying to lump me in with these kids who only know tech. who grew up with cell phones and Internet. I do not identify with them and do not appreciate being lumped in with them. just because a new generation is on the horizon doesn't mean they can start changing dates to suit their needs. I say millenials are from 1990 forward. kids from the 1980s are markedly different from the millenials. I am Gen x. are they trying to make my generation dissapear? I would be interested to see the generation chart they are teaching these kids nowadays. they probably have changed information on it that they taught me. I for one don't appreciate being lumped in with millenials and I certainly do not identify with millenials. long live Gen x!!!

yea like others have said dont lump us 80's kids in with it. many of us were brought up by baby boomers and we were not raised with the hands off mentality that the current college entries of millennials. now i will agree with however the idea of given the tech of today, why should i have to wait for a product im looking for. if my car needs a replacement part i want it as affordable as possible and i really dont want to wait that long to get it. and if its going to cost a lot to repair it i will see if i can do it myself because i dont want to wait on someone else who might milk it to charge me more. see the 80's kids, we dont have time to wait on someone else, we are too busy trying to make it in this world.

Hi Jonathan. I like some of what you're saying here, i.e. the download analogy. I think another major factor with millenials feeling entitled is a lack of discipline and/or family life. From my own experiences it seems like once parents softened up in the discipline, everything started to go down hill for these kids. It seems to have spiraled out of control and has lead to the creation of the 'social justice warrior'
@JonathanSprinkles7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. The issue has been that the collective parenting philosophy has shifted from parenting to friendship. In addition, technology has evolved faster than we have been able to adapt to. Thus, kids have more access than ever before. We are becoming as Peter Drucker predicted, high tech and low touch.

As a Boomer I think Millennials are getting a raw deal, in my day work was plentiful and even on a minimum wage you could still take care of yourself. I think Millennials are the very first generation where if you don't have great computer skills you are basically left behind. I can see why many of the Millennials have a hard time getting motivated because if your are not making 100k at minimum you can't afford to get anywhere in life. You are a generation like the people back in the Industrial revolution, Its very hard to be the generation that has to shoulder so much change.

When i was growing up everyone of my friends would have loved to have access to every bit of information that the internet provides. To look at and have access to everything that you want to learn about . To self educate . Learn about any thought you may wonder about . This millennial generation is more interested in showing what they are about to eat . The party they are at and promoting yourself as a clued in person who's ahead of everyone in understanding the way the world works . This is ridiculous . Participating is no achievement ! There are people in the world who want to educate you to be their slaves and now when the people of the can provide evidence of this , millennial kids don't even care . Brainwashing is being done to the Millennial kids and they love it . They want to be brainwashed because they don't understand anything . Cognitive dissidents is what affects a lot of people of all ages but this generation has the most i ever seen . When you don't know this is being done to you , it's not your fault . when you do know and have the proof at your fingertips but ignorant to this fact . This is why the millennial generation is targeted . Your ideas are great but not original . When implemented those ideas bad things happened to good people . History study it and research it .

50% of the millennials who graduate are going to have obsolete degrees by the time they finish college. Most of the things will be automated due to the rapid growth of technology. the only way the population of Billionaires can increase significantly is by extreme inflation like we have seen with the Zimbabwe dollar. On the other hand, with the enormous amount of debt they'll be accumulating in their lives they may become negative billionaires, so at least they can use the title for something they have achieved. It does make millennials special though, especially Fucked...

i think a very negative "social problem" that we have today is that people can troll, be disgusting, be racist, and all around bad to others on social media and maintain their anonymity. no-one has to account for their actions there, so they act their worst. then they carry this mentality into their real daily life because they have spawned it with their anonymous social media views. the racial divide was NOT there when i was growing up like it is today, and i was born in '80. i would never do this anyway, but i would never stand out in front of my house and yell disgusting and racist things for all to hear. but, give someone a secret and un-traceable microphone that blares over the loudspeaker at school, and just wait for some vile stuff to be said...
@timogden15938 жыл бұрын
65elcamino283 you're right. people who know that you won't know who they are tend to be far more cruel as a result. I have definitely noticed this phenomenon just in the brief time that I have been talking with people and reading comments on this very website. I also have noticed that people in their cars "protected" by metal and glass tend to be much ruder and far more impatient as well. in the grocery store, for example people around you let you go ahead or move politely to let you through but load your stuff in your car and try getting out of the parking lot without getting honked at or flipped off. its quite rediculous actually. people need to learn to extend courtesy to others in life regardless of the situation. respect is earned, yes, but courtesy is granted to all, or should be anyways.

Jonathan Sprinkles You cant say it to ones face because nobody steps outside and socialises anymore. Why would they when they might miss something on a screen. I was born in 81 and this bracket you put me in does not fit me at all. I was at the shore for the day and it was ridiculous at the amount of people staring at devices rather than enjoying what was literally in front of them. While technology has its advantages I think it more greatly has been a downfall especially for society as a whole.
@tomd14345 жыл бұрын
Born in 80 too. I agree. It sucks that social media while probably positive in ways, gives an anonymous platform for folks to spew some terrible stuff. Many of them wouldn't be able to reach outside their immediate circle before social media but now they're everywhere and anonymous.

I was born before WW II, drafted at age 14 by the NKVD to serve in the Soviet Army, I am 16 years old when we reached the outskirts of Berlin, I went back to school and took up mechanical engineering, then the KGB drafted me to be trained as a KGB intelligence field analyst officer, served for decades in the field and in offices, now I am 88 years old and retired. And based on my accumulated additional knowledge and analysis spanning many decades every KGB-GRU/FSB has analyzed the millennials as a dangerously unstable age group population. And we are not surprise at the damages they did to America, all of which were recorded and archived in archival print paper copies and in archival silver halide microfilms.

So, please do not put me into the same category as all of the people in their early 20's. The 80's was a very different decade than the 90's. Geez, I was already 13 when the internet first made it's appearance. I was raised by a different moral code as well. I was taught that i had to earn everything i got not expect someone to just give it to me. I was raised with a corded phone and a little t.v. that got like 5 channels. Unfortunately all this new tech has told our children to believe in it because it's smarter than people. It's faster , it's more dependable for results. But whose results? Nature and human instinct and involvement has been removed. We are turning into robots using AI for answers which leave out the human equation of living consequences. We are not electronic unemotional machines. We are much more complicated than that. We need contact with other humans, with nature to feel whole. The reason why we all are so inanimate is because we no longer interact as a social being but as a computer with which our control mechanisms are in total control.

Our generation does have some legitimate problems. With the rising cost of living and the lack of jobs. That all true. What the older generations r getting annoyed with is that our genera thinks that our problems are greater than the ones in past generations. Or we simply think that we are the only ones with problems. Everyone struggles that's apart of life. The sooner we stop being so thin skinned and start acting like adults. The sooner you will be treated like adults. No good story has everything going perfect for the protagonist. Struggle through ur problems like everyone else and have a story worth telling. Don't be the weak link in the very long chain.

The problem is, everyone knows what the boundary looks lke when when the right goes too far, but where's the boundary that signals that the left has gone too far?? There is none. There SHOULD be, given that communist killed twce as many people than Germany did, but until moderate liberals (aka classic liberals) say enough is enough and calls out the radicals, things will only get worse.1
