Whenever I start to feel the strains of getting old I remind myself " getting old is a luxury that was not afforded to alot of great people "
@geraldscott43022 жыл бұрын
Glad you are able to feel that way about it. I don't see getting old as a luxury. It's anything but. So many things you can't do anymore, constant pain, life sucks. And it's not just because you're old. I loved the way things were when I was a teenager back in the mid '70s. I hate the way things are now. It's computer everything. Cars and bikes are nothing but computers on wheels anymore. Everybody spends most of their life on their smartphones. They socialize on Facebook and Twitter. The world has basically just gone to hell. It wouldn't be fun to live in this mess for me even if I wasn't old. Today's world has nothing to offer that I want.

The best thing about this age is that I don't give a shit what other people think and I'm easier on myself about how and when I get things done. I'm 71 and my uncle is 86. We have been bikers all our lives. I gave him a call yesterday because I needed advice. He, s now in a assistant living place. I myself is at that point where at first my bike started feeling heavy and all of a sudden , my balance is screwed up. Once I'm crusing on the By Passes , I'm into it like always. When I head off the freeways that, s when it starts. Stop and go light after light long red lights and stopping putting my feet down and there goes my balance. It gets harder to hold the bike up. My legs feel week and I get gun shy putting my feet back up on the pegs and it sucks going around the jug handles and I asked my uncle for some advice. He said Sell It. He said the novelty is over. The spirit took care of my heart for many years and now I Have to take care of my own old heart myself. It, s over. He said I was Blessed for many years and I don't want to get hurt at 71 yrs old if that, s what my body and reflexes are telling me. He said a trike just isn't the same. He said when he was at that point , after he sold his bike , he went back in the house and he just took the money and he forgot about it. Another ten years after that , he, s now playing fucken Bingo in a home for the elderly. I said I'm glad I called you. He said no more runs everybody is younger and your an old fucken man now so stop it now before you regret it. He said don't tell anyone about selling it. Just do because they'll find out soon enough that you retired you beautiful Hog. Find some other shit to do before you can't do anything anymore because the brain goes next. Then he said I'll talk to you soon . Wagon Train is on and then I'll nap until someone yells dinner. Well ....... I'm gonna sell it. And it, s really something how all of a sudden I came across your video. My Uncle was a 1 percenter for most of his young years. He said either way.... It was a wonderful Ride. I don't feel all that bad listening to your video and my Uncle verified it all to me . It, s time ✓ I tell the younger guys not to laugh to hard about me because Getting old ain't for sissy, s either.

Well, I’m 62 and have been riding since 11 when dad bought me my first mini bike, eventually moving on to motocross and desert racing in SoCal, then street bikes and for many years, touring bikes. A few years ago, I was having tires replaced on my Electra Glide and met a guy also waiting for his bike, who was an 85 year old retired medical doctor. He also rode an old Electra Glide and was getting ready to take a road trip from Albuquerque up to Montana to visit a friend of his. Man…… nothing but respect on my part for that dude. On a side note: The beauty of getting old, is that you could care less what other people think or have a desire to impress them.

I myself am 76 years old. I feel blessed getting old. Every day is a wonderful gift. As with you, I am much wiser than I was when I was younger. One thing to keep in mind is that every negative thought is like poison, and every negative sentence that comes out of your mouth is like poison.. Every positive thought, and every positive statement is beneficial to your mental and physical health. For example, I never say getting old sucks; instead I say And think how blessed my life has been, how blessed I am to still be here. Statements like that will manifest themselves in a positive way, one way or another in your life. That is my experience.

Yup. I am 81 years old and my current ride is a 99 Softail Custom. I started riding Harleys in 1955 with a 1942 Flat Head 45 when I was 14. I do not do long rides anymore. But still enjoy getting out for a half hour or so just riding the back roads around where I live. I have been a motor head all my life, and the 2 cylinder radial in the Harley is unique. It is like who needs a radio on your bike when you can listen to the drag pipes and watch the suns reflection off the head light. Bikers are not supposed to smile you know, but I cannot keep the grin off my face when I am riding. That first Harley got me my wife of 63 years. I asked her if she wanted to go for a ride on a Harley. She said yes. We were married when she graduated from high school. I graduated the year before. So I am an old biker. Itchy, I LOVE your content, most importantly your wisdom and experience from riding over most your life. The stories you can share, the things you’ve seen, the wise counsel you offer, is invaluable. You can’t teach those experiences in a classroom. I’m glad to know I’m not the only cat with knees that ache (3 knee surgeries later), and both shoulders that give me fits at time. But if a guy will leave his ego at the door, one can really learn a lot from men like yourself who’ve seen it all. Reminds me a lot of my dad (USMC Vet/RIP), he rode a lot, and always encouraged to get out and ride, get out of stop light traffic where you’re asking for trouble with distracted drivers, youth, and so many other variables that can ruin your day. But he taught me to get up early, get out of town on the old scenic two lane sweeping highways, the backroads if you will, keep your speed under control, and go enjoy this God given landscape. No need to ride hard. He used to say, “if you need to run that hard and fast, and you’re in that big of a hurry, you should have left the day before”🤣 And I have to say, I’ve really enjoyed great road trips for several days in a row. I’ve enjoyed getting out for a few hours to ride that way. I’ve tackled every kind of weather element, which is going to happen when you ride, more than from bar to bar in town. I greatly appreciate a biker like yourself, and subscribe for all the stories, experiences and wise counsel you share. You can lead my day of riding anytime! I appreciate you, itchy.

I am 55 and starting to feel my age. I have a heavy bike and a lightweight bike. My knees and my back determine which one I ride. You get old when you stop doing what you love. Find ways not to quit. I don't know much about groups. Solo or with a friend or two has been just fine. Don't worry about others think. More important is what you think about yourself. Enjoyed your take on things, itchy.

I’m 62 as well and I am becoming less and less a fan of being cold. I live in the Southwest USA and this year was the first time ever, after riding most of my life, that I bought a heated vest.

Being a child of God is all that matters. God bless you brother and ride on until you don't enjoy it or you can't do it. I started at about 13 yrs old on a Honda trail 50 and now I'm on a gl1500 or Spyder RT. Keep riding and hope to see you out there.

It's a fun day anytime you get to share it with your bride. The way I see it, you can make physical therapy a social venue and meet new friends (you know, geezers bettering their lives) - not to put you in that category. I'm 62 pushing 63, in excellent health and still enjoy riding my R1while looking to get into a Fireblade or Beemer. Started riding in the eighties, stopped, retired from my career then picked up riding again although I felt like a beginner but always confident that I'd get back into riding shape again. The young buckaroos got nothing on the old riding hands like us. I see them barely respecting the vehicles they're riding and all I can do is shake my head and wish them well. Greetings from Yonkers, NY. Subscribed.

At only 57, I'm glad You said that. As I age I find that I'm enjoying riding solo more and more. Not being anti social but there is less to worry about and I can turn at any interesting corner or street I want, or I can head out a stretch of road and get lost if it moves Me to do so.

I am 74 yrs old and I have a new Indian scout60 that is giving me the freedom to continue riding because it's a low and not a heavy motorcycle. I also have been always exercising all of my life and this helps me have good muscle strength to manage my Bike. so ride on if you can until the good lord lays out your last ride.

That's why I carry a chain wallet. Little pocket has a key for the house and garage doors, as well as a key for my truck door in case I lock my keys in. Yeah, over 62, mind and organs still work most of the time, but my chassis has a lot of issues. Mostly due to injuries from riding related incidents & accidents. I have several old Harleys that are kick-start only. But my right ankle is trashed to the point where I can hardly stand on it, let alone kick-over my Pan stroker or Flattie. Left leg was shattered from hip to foot, and I can barely stand on it to swing the right leg over. Broke several vertebrae, ribs, shoulder blade, collar bone, hip, pelvis, etc. Most of my old riding buddies are dead or in similar physical shape. I too knew several upper-level members of a 1% club many years ago. I was always welcome and showed respect by these older guys because I always rode and knew bikes. I rode with them, and if someone broke down, I'd be the one to get it fixed. Most of those guys are either dead , in jail or no longer ride.. The club scene is way different than it was 30-40yrs ago. M/C used to mean motorcycle, as in RIDE! These young guys don't ride. I've heard several who stated the only reason they had a Harley was to be a member. They'd rather have a fast modern sportbike! I see them wearing their colors, but not riding. I told several that I probably have more time on the toilet than they have on a Harley and back in the day, put more miles on my bikes in a year that their entire chapter. But it is a nice day, so I'll take my pain meds and like the new guys I used to make fun of, go out and push the starter button on my Evo. sigh!

Thanks for the video. I have arrived at the place you talk about of my health failing and not feeling safe to ride. COVID didn't kill me but did some damage. Since early 2021 I have only ridden a few times. I miss it so much and it makes me feel very sad. As you say it will happen to all of us eventually but I hope you have many more miles left. I still feel like a biker and the way you put it that's ok. So thanks for making me feel like I can still belong. Happy Trails Brother.

I used to get off the train in Chillicothe to go to New Holland where my dad is now buried. Following Rolling Thunder each memorial day, we'd ride to North Carolina to see our other brother. We had the Army, Navy, and Marines covered until I lost my younger brother to agent orange in 2016. He's interred in the national cemetery near Canton. We know the old guy stuff but we can bring it if we have to without hesitation.

Just came across your channel and rather enjoyed this video. Being 70 I just sold what probably will be my last motorcycle a little over a week ago. I come from a family of bikers My dad quit riding I think it was at 84, ... and both of my younger brothers still ride (one 66 and the other 68). I didn't quit because I couldn't ride any more but rather because I'm packing up and moving to a tropical country for my retirement. All this cold and rain in Vancouver BC just doesn't make this old guy feel much like riding any more. I guess the fact that I no longer own a bike doesn't mean that I won't ever ride again, but if I do it's probably just going to be a small bike to get commute around our new home on.

@@mickeymarchwick4752 already own a small condo in a new high-rise in a medium sized city (about 355,000 population) in the Philippines. Going to be spending my winters in or beside one of the pools at the pool bar relaxing. :) Just sold a '88 Katana 1100 with about 115,000km on it, but if i ever ride again it's probably going to be a small commuter bike 400cc or so.

Dude, sir Itchy... I love this clip/video? I have no idea what things are called now! I own and have ridden sport bikes since 1977 when I got my first bike as a kid, a Honda 50 Trail Bike (not a sport bike). I am having a harder time riding my R6 and other 2 Stroke old bikes I own! I wondered for the last 2-3 years how older Harley riders can handle much heavier bikes than mine. Thank you for sharing the truth about aging and being a rider. Do it as long as you wnat!

Cool video my friend! I just always wanted to ride a street bike but never did until last year at the age of 61. Found a sportster and been enjoying it big time. Never had any aspirations of joining any clubs as I have always been solo about almost everything. One key thing I have learned about a$$holes is how not to ever dignify them unless cornered. 99.9% are cowards to begin with. Keep on rocking and hope you enjoy your trip to Sandusky! I went to Cedar Point long time ago and rode the Magnum 2000 I think they called it...great times!

I didn't look to see where the start of this ride is, but when I was working in Ohio I stayed in Lorain/Elyria area. Often riding up to Sandusky on that back road was so nice.

I hit 67 and figured that it was either time to downsize to a smaller bike or to hang it up. A handful of age related health problems caught up to me so I came to that crossroads that we all come to eventually. I sold off my Road King and bought a Triumph Bonneville America which took me back to the old days of Triumph based choppers- full circle. When and if the time comes if it comes to a choice between a three wheeler and hanging it up, well, I'll hang it up. So far it's been a long and great ride with lots of great memories so when that time comes so be it.
