I hated Tyler perry movies due to repetition of men being abusive or being absent fathers. Or women being abused or searching for love. I understand it's inspired by the women of his life but there are so much more stories he could tell. But it's the same damn thing.

Yeah but that's what people been patronizing him for so the jokes not on him tbh. I never hated Perry's stuff but I had my fill back around 2006 or so. I saw a couple of the plays and one movie and I was like ok that's enough. But his audience keeps coming back. I give him props since it took till about 2020 for everyone to come around to realizing the flaws. I still give dude his propers tho

@@tdavi3216 old school will always exists, but in a new generation it becomes stale seeing the same stereotypes.spike lee has always taken risks to explore what it means to be black. Tyler perry always stays safe and it gets predictable and boring.

It irks me when people say he's employing other Black people. Yeah, he's employing Black people in front of the camera, but he's not providing *any* opportunities for Black folks behind the scenes (i.e. writers, directors, producers and just Black creatives in general) And it's not like any of these actors he's "employing" are going on to have big careers outside of his low budget movies and TV shows. If anything it probably damages their careers because every one is pointing and laughing at them for being in such a low budget mess. Black folks really need to raise their standards and stop settling for his mediocre nonsense. There are other Black creatives who we could be supporting who actually put out high quality work like, Ava Duvernay, Issa Rae, Jordan Peel etc. to be settling for such buffoonery

Tyler Perry’s colorism is so strange to me. In his plays, I can definitely think of several moments where he had the “villain” be a light skinned man and the good man be dark skinned. But when translated to movies, he switched it? I can’t think of one movie where he doesn’t do that. I don’t understand.

Tyler Perry makes sure his male actors are very muscular. Are they taking steroids? The ladies look a hot mess. The First Lady on the Oval her hair and those dresses are horrible and mostly white dresses. One episode last season he had a scene where four black men was shot in the head, for kidnapping the President’s daughter. And Sister episodes the word Bitch is used constantly. Why is it that all the actors want is sex with so many different men? I will not watch the series again , it sucks. The wigs on the actors are awful. U make are black women look stupid. As much as I LOVE bad movies, I don’t watch Tyler Perry movies. They’re very formulaic, to the point where I know how to watch these movies with extended family without commenting much. Watch the set up of the black woman done wrong. Leave and clean the kitchen or nap for a bit. Come back for the last 15 or so minutes to watch the villain get punished and the happy ending. A bad movie isn’t fun for me if it’s too predictable.
@DylanRomanov
@DylanRomanov 4 жыл бұрын
DarksideBallerina Diary of a Mad Black Woman was the only one I enjoyed and it was the first one I watched. Literally every other movie is just like that one. Like during the middle of the movie I expect someone to die or get sick in the middle of nowhere, then the movie goes from ridiculous comedy to really sad for a good half hour. Then there is a gospel song and everything is okay.

I encourage other black people to look into black cinematography and film history bc he is not the end all be all and never has been. I'm Caucasian and stay in my Lane completely. BUT I've been saying this for years. I feel like he wants us to laugh AT, not With his characters. He paints the African American Male as always cheating or hurt by a horrible past. And the Women, he portrays to be so weak and helpless. Every Black Woman I've met are the absolute opposite of that. They are incredibly independent, STRONG and Divinely Beautiful. Just my opinion.

The ending to “Why Did I Get Married Too?” Where the husband was killed in a crash after the argument he had with his wife is the only part of a Tyler Perry movie that got me. It taught me no matter how bad things are and how much you dislike someone be nice to them often because you never know when they’re going to die after they leave the driveway.

I've been a fan of Tyler's since high school, but comparing House of Payne back in the day to House of Payne the revival is seriously why he needs the writers room back. It's the same actors and actresses but you can tell the scenes are NOT how they use to be, that tv show back then felt like a reality show it was sooo good but now it is so slow and forced dialog.

Thanks for your rant, Queen. I can't stand Tyler Perry. I never understood why so many Black people like his films. He can't write a screenplay to save his life. He got started doing these 'gospel' stage plays and it shows. His movies are all the same, with abusive Black men and angry Black women. I didn't like the fact he always made dark skinned men the villains and light skin men the heroes. And the Madea character....Why did he think it was cool to play a grandma? But his audiences loved it. 🤦🏿‍♂️ His films are full of stereotypes and buffoonery . He set back Black film one hundred years. I am so glad we got people like Ry Coogler to give us a different vision of Blackness.

I think you need to remember that many narcissists are like the man in A FALL FROM GRACE... in the way that they do switch up from "love bombing" to completely villainous and blaming others for what's happening. People may think it's exaggerated until they go through this with a family member, old "friend", boss or coworker, and/or love interest. This part is SERIOUSLY "true to life".

She was known to hem people up in a heartbeat all across our city, be in church and have to move the gun in her purse to hand you a piece of candy. But she also opened her home to those needing rest, food a ride, clothes. She was a difficult person to put in a box.

Tyler did NOT direct the first movie Diary of a Mad Black Woman. This is why it comes across better than his other films. Tyler recently went back and tried to fix A Fall From Grace on Netflix. He actually re-edited it and Netflix replaced the old version with the remix. It still doesn't help. Tyler's problem is RUSH, RUSH, RUSH. He brags about making these movies fast. A Fall From Grace was made in four days... and it shows.

@@curtisthomas2670 Exactly. He's a good business man, and I admire him for having his own studio, but he's producing garbage. A prime example is Madea Boo 2. I agree with your list of his better films accept for “Why did I Get Married Too?” and “For Colored Girls”. WDGM2 was trash and so overwrought that I wondered if I was even watching the same cast as the first movie! Granted Angela and Marcus will always be well, Angela and Marcus. But Janet Jackson’s character and her relationship with her husband was so overly dramatized beyond measure it was ridiculously bad and depressing.
