Well I’m 75 and I had my gallbladder removed by open surgery 25 years ago and I eat exactly what I like clotted cream my favourite and I don’t stint , yeas ago I did visit my doctor being worried about eating fats and she said “ your just lucky your liver is doing the job of your gallbladder “ 😊

I am 71 and made history at my local hospital when I had my gallbladder removed at just 13. Given it was open surgery involving 27 (I think) stitches I was VERY tender for some time afterwards but I can honestly say I've had no issues and I'm able to eat anything. Cheers from Australia 🐨

I had had this surgery 6-7 years ago. Right after the surgery, you don’t feel like eating food in the first place and lose some weight. After some time, you’re normal. I don’t eat fatty, fried, heavy foods in my regular diet so it doesn’t cause much trouble. However, the moment, I eat one piece of fried food , I have lose motion soon after. That’s the only downside so far.

How was your recovery? What about if you eat avocados or natural fats? Can you eat fish or chicken? Do you take enzymes or anything to help digest the fat?

My recovery after the surgery took about a month but food intake was lesser than usual albeit at a good level. Yes I can eat avocados, chicken , fish and everything but either grilled or air fried. Shallow fried with little oil also doesn’t hurt. Deep fried food gives me an upset stomach. I don’t take any enzymes etc. at all.

Did you have open surgery or a laparoscopic cholecystectomy? I'm scheduled to have surgery the 28th of this month (next Tuesday) and I'm curious to find out how my digestion will change after. When did you feel your energy/strength return after surgery? Did your bowel movements change? How old were you when you had the surgery

@@2323ELPTXhi. 👋 I just had Lap Chole 4 nights ago. No diet restrictions from the drs. but i wanted to be careful cause of all the gas/air from the surgery. Fortunately, no diarrhea, just soft stool. I just noticed that eating even a small amount of fatty/oily food and dairy, i get stomach upset. I just have to accept that there are certain foods that i need to eat less of or can't eat anymore. Now, i've accepted that fatty foods and dairy are my triggers. Overall, i look at all of this positively. I'll learn to make healthy choices for my overall well-being. I also don't want to waste the effort, decision, and money expended for the Lap Chole. A few days after surgery, i haven't experienced adverse effects, simply by choosing the right foods. Had i made healthy food choices before, i wouldn't have had gallbladder problems in the 1st place. So it's all good.

@@LukeSkywalker-ig3mc thats right gall bladder removal precludes nutrients hormones and vitamin d amongst many other vitamins inc b12 and other things the human body needs to exist from fats and the aforementioned being absorbed. Yes a small amount of bile truckles from the liver and pancreas but continously and it needs to be absorbed at the right time after food entering the stomach which the gall bladder normally is ready for and is concentrated bile.

Just spoke to the surgeon and like the rest of my PKD treatment, he does not think i am sick enough to warrant the removal of the gallbladder. He's more concerned about the side effects of the surgery and does not think my 14% function is the cause of the pain because I have too much radiating pain for it to be just the bladder. Yeah, because I have PKD and NASH. Just cut me open and LOOK at it. Quit using labs and the BMI as testing methods.

Well I hate my life every day that I let my wife push me into this surgery. Doctor after doctor told us of what could happen but not what could happen if I had it removed, funny how they don’t tell you those stories of those that went bad like mine. Hard to push a surgery on someone when the outcomes can be as bad or worse than what you have currently. I hate my surgery on. 10-20-2023, problems started right then. First the surgeon did not and refused to prescribe post antibiotics and I developed a huge infection despite following his orders to the letter. I ended up hospitalized for 3.5 days and 40k+ hospital bill. Then he cut the stitches and jammed a 6” wood Q-tip in the incision causing extreme pain, open packs it causing a huge scar in the middle of my chest. Time goes by and I started having pain again under the right rib to the point it would drop ,e to the floor in pain. Months go by and nobody knew are gave a shit what was causing my pain, so I was bounced from one doctor to another until I finally had enough of that BS and started learning of the massive mistake I made letting anyone push me into a surgery I did not want. MRI.s, CT., ultrasound , X-rays, blood tests you name it. They wanted to do tests that had no chance of finding the cause but made them money, after all they to stupid to figure it out. I started my own research on the pain, ruled out possible reasons based on tests and symptoms, found out it was adhesions. I was not warned or even told this was a possibility, but 51.6% of the people who have surgery develop them. PCS, SOD, stone left behind, all bs. I went to a surgeon that I explained everything to him, and my findings, we did the surgery this past week 7-5-2024 at 8:30am, he found the problem, adhesions in 7 separate areas pulling, twisting, and hold organs where they should not be, while he was doing my surgery he also fixed the huge scar Dr Conway caused back in October, f,ing quack. I am 6 days post surgery and the pain from the adhesions are gone now just have to heal up and hope they do not come back or I will be right back in pain. What I have learned is don’t EVER let anyone push you into a surgery you don’t want p, even if it means divorce, as I hate the fact that my wife pushed me into this situation and I do not know if I can ever forgive her. Time will tell what other pains I will end up with before this is all over, maybe problems eating, gas pains, diarrhea, GERS, IBS, etc all in the air. My life sucks and I hate the way I feel every day of my life, I regret that surgery and my wife, I want her to have hers removed so she can feel the hell I live now.
