Solid video, man. I think stuff like this really needs to be talked about for people to hear because a lot of the time, this is stuff only fellow content creators or reactors truly understand until it's talked about. I agree with pretty much everything you said, and have experience a lot of it. HOWEVER. I have been really harsh about a band on a reaction and they still said "thank you" and then had em on for an interview, so ya never know. 😂

You're not wrong. Honesty can really hurt ur views, engagement and shareability. Too many hot takes and u can really spoil returning viewership. I'm so glad that I stopped caring about the algorithm and whether or not a video did well VERY early on, AND never grew any aspirations to benefit monetarily from youtube. I just have fun and do what I want and pride myself ALSO as being an honest channel. It's just a shame that picking the most popular tunes and pandering or straight up FAKING a positive opinion is what pushes music react content to the front

I value the responses you and Metalbirb give with the videos/songs you guys review. I was personally stoked that you reviewed the new Dragoncorpse song. I was the person that created the AMV for Blood and Stones, and I loved what you said. Not an exact quote but “even without the AMV the song was amazing” I loved working with the band in order to give them something for viewers to watch as they listened to their new song. I really hope they gain more traction and they do truly start a new sub-genre.

As you touched on, people aren't really interested in the reactors thoughts. They just want to see someone else be as excited about the band as they are. Don't ever stop being honest to yourself. As a Nightwish fan I'm sorry for the things the fans have done to you or others. Mostly I find the fanbase being reasonable and understanding, voting and leaving a comment if you find anything enjoyable in the song. Otherwise my impression is that we'll just stay silent. Carry on and like or hate songs, according to your own taste.

Definitely not Ricky Gervais. Got quite a lot of hate for it (but much more support). But to be honest. 85% positive is bad ? (have you ever been at school ?) 8,5 ! Wicked. Anyhow always be honest, stay true & *ck the haters & the herd (but never criticize the Pogues or you will get it :) That said I love Nightwish, Floor is brilliant but if you don't like it, it's ok (of course). It all comes down to your integrity. I honestly think that bands will respect your honest opinion MUCH more if you actually stick to your values and don't just produce an echo chamber and pander to your audience. So stick to your guns and don't ever cave in just for views your audience will appreciate the honesty and I think the bands will as well.

As a creator I am often challenged with making content that is 'popular' or that will sell. I was told my page/website would not be successful because I refuse to pander. It's hard. I could easily lie, or make stuff I don't really care about, or talk about all the same artists everyone else does. Instead I'd rather promote smaller/DIY/underground artists and bands that I actually know and want to see succeed. While I understand You have to play the game and do what the algorithms demand in order to be on top but I'm content with being part of something bigger than that.

Having an honest opinion which doesn't go along with the majority is always running the gauntlet alwasy was hard. I am on the interwebs since 1999 now, and already, in the mIRC chats and in the first forums, it was not easy not to give a fuck about other peoples' opinion. It always was the same wherever it was. I also wrote music reviews online from 2003 to 2017, same story. The good thing about being a youtuber, twitcher etc is that you are the boss of yourself. You can still ignore the comments and just think: Okay, just let em talk. In forums, bulletin boards and for example facebook groups, this really sucks a lot. Let's say it this way: Even though always staying respectful and polite and always explaining your views, no matter how subjective they were, I even got banned from forums and groups. Just by having opinions. Just because you don't fit with the others. Just because you say what you think about a certain piece of art. It just repeats itself, just on different platforms.

And i've seen Nightwish reactors just sitting their laughing it off and taking the piss and i felt they didn't even try from the start it was like hey chose a group we can take the piss oh how about this one. Any way it's your channel and you have the right to run it anyway you want to and if somebody doesn't like what you say they can just unsubscribe and leave. It's brutal that being honest hurts your channel, but just know that those of us who subscribe really appreciate it I only watch two reaction channels, and the reason you're one of them is that you actually give pros and cons, and tell us how you truly feel about a song. I'm use Nik Nocturnal as an example. He seems like a great guy and is fun to watch, but I don't watch his reactions because everything he says about the songs he reacts to is positive. And just listening to constant praise for every song that comes out gets boring very quickly You're unique in that you give us your honest thoughts, and I hope that never changes

it's absolutely right to be honest. If someone doesn't like a band/song, then of course they can say so. But since it is a reaction channel, please give reasons. But what must also be allowed as a viewer of the channel is, of course, criticism on the part of the viewer - be it of the band/song or of the channel/channel operator. That's nothing reprehensible.

I personally wouldn't mind if you were more cryptic with the video titles for songs that you had heavy constructive criticism for. I don't really consider the titles much myself, and I enjoy the surprise of what your opinion actually is. This was a good video to watch and I like how it gives an inside look at how things really are. I never liked the dislike/like function on social media as it has so many negative consequences. It is silly that because 10% of people don't agree it causes problems. The one problem I have with the video is naming bands fans as toxic. The point of the video could be made without this and seems sort of vindictive and toxic in its own right. It puts a negative and confrontational feeling out that really doesn't lend itself to productive discourse.

Fair enough about the bands! But I can't speak for everyone but I avoid certain fanbases after being critical with their music and Nightwish is a prime example. Man this topic gets my blood boiling hard. There is NO value in dishonest reactions (which are the majority). Imma say this again, not as a hater, but as someone who really enjoys Nik's content other than the reactions. It's clear that Nik kinda "leads the game" in terms of popularity of metal reactions and networking, having the opportunity to be close and create things with people who many of us would call "idols". But I get so sick with it, cause all of this is built over a culture of pleasing others just for the show. It's so empty and superficial. You get many views, you get to talk to bands and people you admire, but as a result of what? As a result of videos full of vague opinions, bad memes and "catch phrases" that portray the same excitement over everything. It's obviously just here to be there and create engagement, it adds nothing to the discussion. The videos are made trying to be as optimistic as possible, being ultra superficial (cause "GOD FORBID if I go too deep on my thoughts about this people may not like what I say"), a fake excitement is portrayed and people watch it pretending they believe (I think its like some mental masterbation, like seeing someone pretending they love a song you like). It wouldn't bother me if this wasn't the "pinnacle" of metal reactions, what bothers me is knowing that success, networking and engagement is primarily being built around vague "just for show" content, and not with meaningful discussions.

The thing I don’t understand is you have people like Finn McKenty who is way more unfiltered with his opinions but when it comes to Architects and literally any band at the top in terms of popularity he’ll kiss their ass then write off bands like Northlane and ERRA as “Architectscore”. And he’ll still get the views. Is it because he’s older and people enjoy the gatekeeping crap or are they disliking a lot of his videos? I don’t currently have a laptop so can’t see dislike ratio btw.

I think it was actually after watching a video of you disliking a song that I liked. I love honesty. It's so transparent to me when these reaction channels are fake and just absolutely love everything they hear. That's not natural. No one likes everything. It really does come off as pandering and a gigantic waste of my time. It's so much more rewarding when you finally do see an honest reaction to a song or band that you like, and they like it as well. That's some true solidarity that I can get behind. Anyway, keep being you, and above all else, keep being honest, no matter the consequences.

We live in a world where a _lot_ of people treat their opinions as facts and treat those who agree with them as providing evidence for their "facts", marking anybody who disagrees or even qualifies their agreement as "wrong". I could go on forever about how we got here & why, but nobody wants a comment that takes longer to get through than the video its posted on. 😄 Also, KZbin's algorithm is a flat out joke. Even though I don't agree with your every thought (why should I?), I'm subscribing *because of this video. I don't think I've ever downvoted a reactor. If someone is pretentious and inexplicably opinionated, i just go elsewhere. Trolls on the other hand get severely downvoted (and generally aren't worth a comment).

So i appreciate honest channels. Follow a lot of good ones, Finn McKenty, and Intergalactic Criminal are two of my favorite. I think a) bands look at these for constructive criticism (erra interviewed with Finn after the backlash the fan base gave him for a reaction of one of their songs) b) sparks conversation and debates that I think is healthy. Not everybody has to agree on everything. There are too many sheep now a days. I hate the channels that pander, but I also hate channels that make non constructive comments and trash bands. I can also agree with toxic fanbases, I’m a huge Korn fan, and can say that the fanbase can be very toxic. I really like your channel because it’s real, I love the pros and cons section and often agree with what you say.

I agree 100 percent about your criticism stance. Growth comes from discussion and feedback. I find it incredibly boring when someone just says “I like it”. Sure, that’s fine and I understand people don’t like to discuss but I’m in the area where I enjoy discussion and I like to hear “the why”. I’ve been a fan of your channel FOR YOU. Not for what you can do for me as a subscriber. You most definitely are a real one…and I appreciate the shit outta you! 👊😂

Hey man always love the content but I don’t comment much. For what it’s worth, I say double down and TRY to have a discussion even with the toxic fan bases. If it becomes an argument then stop, but a discussion is a 2-way street! I appreciate this video and I don’t want you to waste your time, but you can’t say you want a discussion without challenging opposing opinions. Anyway I’m here for the content either way. Keep it real bruv.

If you want to be truly popular, getting views/likes in the reaction side of things, then metal isn't the way to do it. It's pop and rap, unless it's like Ronnie or (again) EC. Fake or not, those songs/artists just inherently bring in more views. There's zero, comparatively speaking, relevant reaction channels based around metal. That alone says you're doing this because you enjoy it, not the money. I think the issue with some of them, and I say this as a big fan of your channel, but you lack consistency with some of your takes. You enjoy To The Hellfire despite it sounding like every song on Immortal with a weird breakdown (the only reason it went as viral as it did), but flip the switch when CJ/ID sound like Lorna Shore/Will? You don't want Copy-and-Paste music (from the Allt video), and yet you want Dayseeker to be more copy-and-paste? You say you don't gravitate toward heavy music, but you seem way harsher toward slower songs (MIW's Masterpiece, for example) than anything super heavy (BoS/WCAR, for example) or using batshit time signatures regardless of how generic it may or may not be. But everyone has their own tastes, so that's just a whatever thing to me.

The thing is people watch reaction videos of bands / songs they like or love and in today's world they feed us information that we agree with so when we get hit with opinions we do not agree with then we handle it poorly. There is no such thing as discussion anymore. It is either you agree with me, or you are a shitty person with shitty ideas.

Unfortunately I think a lot of the talkit's a lot of the toxic fans you're referring to are actually a big minority however sometimes their voices are the loudest and they stand out............. It's true in life if you go to a restaurant and you really love it you might not even say anything if you hate it you'll tell anyone who's willing to listen........ I think the fans are wrong sometimes for defending their band or their singer to the ends of the Earth but I also think sometimes the reactors are wrong because they don't give the band enough time to fully evaluate who they really are..........

If you don't have something nice to say, say nothing at all. Isn't that basic etiquette? I would not react to bands or artists I do not like or respect. That isn't being dishonest, that is simply enjoying the artists that you appreciate. I mean some people like trolls and some people like the negative attention as much or more than the positive attention. Reactors and reactions are all based upon opinions, your opinion or Tank's are simply that and you should not state things as facts, unless you have evidence. If I see someone react to Floor or Nightwish and say, they are talented, just not my cup of tea, fine with that, but a person that just spews negativity I see as a person trolling. For instance, Band Maid, Babymetal, or Love Bites, not my cup of tea, they are all very talented, but I would not react to them. I don't have to pander to them for clicks or be an a**hole and run them down, because they are obviously all talented, just not for me. What is dishonest about that? What many reactors do though they will find bands, like the ones I just mentioned or Nightwish/Floor, get lots of likes and subs, then disregard them when it is convenient. Likes and subs go to some folks heads and they believe they are more than just a regular person with an opinion.

Hard agree on the reddit thing, I said that I didn't like an south park episode that people like and got downvoted with no replies. I really like the way you do in depth analysis after the music unlike most reaction channels that just give generic comments. And especially because you don't pause in the middle of the song. When I watch a reaction for a song I like I want to know their actual reactions towards the song and why/what makes them like/not like it and not just praise comments. Toxic people are gonna be toxic people need to learn to ignore them. I know this is a lot of rambling about stuff that was already said in the vid I just wanted to write down my opinions

NW Army brutal? I can't help but wonder what you said 🤣🤣 Also I can't imagine anyone saying there is anything wrong with Nightwish. 🤣🤣 Keep real man! I rather hear someone say they are too far over the top or the start of Storytime sucks (which I will never admit) then to be listing to some bad actor pretending they find everything Floor does is 100% fantastic (which is true) and Annette is equally good (which is a lie).

The 2 NW reactions are still viewable on Mb's KZbin channel. You can view them and see. I only found Nightwish 16 months ago so I had never seen them. A little surprised that NW was on the top of his list. Most likely because some of the hardcore fans were angry about the sexually negative comment by his lady. The commenters jumped pretty hard on her. And he jumped back, which is what we guys do. He did seem to like Romantacide, but his side glance, and seeing she still didn't like the vocals, well, he backed off....and never reacted to another Nightwish song. Happy wife, happy life.

What seems to be lost today is the nuance of opinion. There really is no right or wrong view because everyone's tastes are different. So now, when someone sees a somewhat negative reaction to something they enjoy, they feel personally attacked, and immediately go on the defensive. It's a shame that you can't just share your point of view on something that you are passionate about without being punished for it. Just keep doing what you're doing, because you are one of the best on here. I never want to see you be discouraged.
