I really love Bodgan and Rachelle's lists (and you, Birb!) because some of the music you all listen to is similar to my tastes but there are also new bands/artists that will catch my attention and want to check out like Vatican, Banks Arcade, and Ithica to name a few! Also, Rachelle's explanation of putting Color Decay on her list is very relatable; i remember checking out Prada back in their Rise Records days and I feel like i've grown up with the band a lot to where Color Decay is just a great listen front to back and where i'm currently in life combining the happiness i'm currently experiencing! My record for 2022 was Children of the Great Extinction by Becoming the Archetype and I feel like I will be the only one that will have that record in a top 10/20 AOTY list because the band is not that well-known even though they're on the same record label with Prada and Norma Jean, but I was super excited when they returned out of nowhere with the original lineup and the record just took me on a beautiful, metalcore ride; Enterprise Earth's The Chosen was my 2022 AOTY for the longest time but Becoming the Archetype just came out of nowhere to take it down, lol! Great video; love seeing all the music that 2022 brought us and excited for 2023!

I think that TEKKNO of Electric Callboy was one of my favorite metal releases. But in other recent albums, I'd say Self Titled BFMV, Slaughter to Prevail's Kostolom, TESF of Slipknot, Omens of Lamb Of God, Eternal Blue of Spiritbox, and of course welcome to horrorwood of ice nine kills. All of these are perfect records for me.

Counterparts is one of those bands you really do have to see live to really get. At least thats how it was for me, i saw them back in 2013 and i knew and liked a few of their songs before but i didn't really appreciate the musicianship till i saw it live.
@nolankuffner3573

That might be how it is for you, I get alot of enjoyment out of their recordings as is. Honestly, they're what I hoped Misery Signals with Jesse to sound like, instead of a band that thrived more with Karl (Controller is the best things they will ever write). Growing up with that band when it went through those changes, Counterparts is a similar yet progressively better band that scratches both the emotional and technical itch I look for. And to be blunt, while the visceral elements are still there, I find they lose some of the emotionality live.

Personally, I had FFAA at #1 because unlike Sea of Tragic Beasts, I found it actually expanded their sound. Even on songs like Shepherd and Napalm Dreams where they add moments of diversity (a different scream, a cool breakdown), there's genuinely nothing like the drum beat of Higher Level of Hate, the vocal flow of Savages, and I found that where they used cleans (The Man That I Was Not, In Shadows) it was both better executed and better integrated than anything on SOTB. I expected everything I heard on Sea of Tragic Beasts and, for me, the year it came out, While She Sleeps' You Are We was a FAR more interesting release. Had Sleeps Society come out this year, FFAA would have beaten it handily, even just weighing the 'real' songs against one another, and unlike most critics who seemed to just shit on it, I loved most of that album. And let's drop this for those who agree that (while still very much a Fit For An Autopsy album) Oh, What The Future Holds is everything Sea of Tragic Beasts could have been.. The predecessor was a pre-Covid album that the new one absolutely obliterated. It has had the best response from the community and the most longevity of any of their albums. SOTB was an October release that half of the community forgot about before the year was done, versus this album dropped in January and was still being talked about in December. It's in the same vein as Sun Eater getting massive press because people were still buzzing, 11 months after To The Hellfire. If it were just a technical death core album, I probably would have given a shit, just like Pain Remains isn't the breakthrough hit it turned out to be without the Trilogy. And while criticisms could be levied against them, saying that SOI had a trilogy on their album, I'd argue those are still just 3 songs written in a similar vein, nothing like what Lorna did, basically writing a 3 part, 20 minute epic. For a fan of albums like Natasha and Mirror Reaper, I might be in the miniscule minority with an attention span to sit through an album like these and see mass differences and appreciate them, versus other listener who might get fatigued by supposedly similar concepts. Then again, wasn't it a wise man who once said 'If you know it's one of our songs in the first 30 seconds, it's goin' on the fuckin' album'? And that's the key. I don't need 2023 Fit For An Autopsy to sound like 1992 Slayer just as much as you don't want 2023 Vildhjarta to sound like 1997 Pearl Jam.

I 100% agree on TDOPOM. There’s so many songs that are borderline perfect for me. Title track, concrete jungle, nowhere to go, Like a villian (even better with What It Cost), Artificial Suicide, what do you want from me?, miracle etc. but there’s a stretch of songs that are a shrug after like a villian that just kinda take the flow down.
