Amazing to observe how each step is done as if it was a very important operation. No hurry, just concentration, attention and carefulness. Congratulations ! The skin used is a sort of ray, not a shark. This material was used in Europe in the 18th century by Galuchat (hence the name Galuchat) for the making of small precious objects like boxes. It went in fashion again in the 1930's with the Art Deco style, where it was used as veneer for the covering of expensive furnitures.The surface of the skin was carefully polished and colored, and the multiple erased tooth appeared like small rounded pieces of ivory.

I have never heard of Galuchat, but recently learned the word "shagreen" as a term for polished shark/ray skin.

I was thinking the same thing, or why not build a jig with a hold down clamp. I thought maybe they don’t have clamps, until I saw him using one on the router. Way to risky.

That table saw usage is so dangerous. I can see why great care is used because the fingers are very close to the blade.

日本では古来よりサメとエイはほぼ同じ扱いでした 一般的に鮫皮と書いてたらエイの皮です 最近では本当のサメの皮も使うのでそれはサメ皮と表記されます

"Shark skin" - это фразеологизм. Он означает "шкура ската", а не "кожу акулы". Довольно частое заблуждение.

日本での鮫皮とはエイ皮の事なんですよ、ややこしい所なんですが 古来より日本人はエイもサメと同じ扱いだったんですね 実際サメとエイは結構近縁ですし 現在ではシャークの方の鮫の皮も使うのでそれはサメ皮と表記されますね

この皮は、ツカエイ、もしくはヅカエイです。日本刀の柄(つか)にも使います。 Wikipediaによると、ツカエイ(学名：Pastinachus ater)は アカエイ科のエイの一種､､､英名は　Broad cowtail stingray　だそうです。

It's stingray as others have posted. Where the worker is cutting the sized pieces of skin , you can see the size of the whole hide that it's a stingray. I was expecting shark myself until I saw that and realized what it actually was. Translations still get messed up despite the 21st century technology
