I think he was just knows that everything will be clipped and is less comfortable with clips floating around showing him embodying submissiveness. Most people would be the same, regardless of actual preferences, because being submissive is a lot more vulnerable. If he played the sub role straight, he would partially get unwanted comments

Exactly! The best Doms are able to empathise with the sub. I don't necessarily think Doms should have to experience the pain/etc that the sub experiences, but it is vital that they understand *how* much pain/whatever they are inflicting and be in tune with the sub's reactions.

I think a huge part of that is just how being a DM is inherently a position of power. Being a Dom DM makes sense but a Sub DM is a contradiction.
