Yes, it becomes an obsession. For me, I'm not looking to have a lot more pieces, but I want the "best for me" of that piece and it will drive me crazy if I know there is a better and attainable option that makes sense to have in place of my current product. I'm just describing how one typically upgrades equipment after they start their gym on the cheap from marketplace and whatnot before we get the education on all the products and what is available to us. We are in a golden age for home gyms.

What a good episode, really enjoyed the deep dive & thoughts on a home gym. What stuck with me most was filming yourself in a home gym. I would usually get annoyed when seeing someone in a public gym film themselves, but now I do it every now and then and it's not weird because it's my space I can do whatever I please. Also I don't know if it was mentioned during the conversation - I would always turn my plates in when at a public gym and now I ONLY turn plates out during use, mostly because I like how my plates look and want to see and appreciate them more, and I can do so without feeling arrogant or out of line with public gym etiquette.

I've always hated going to the gym, so having a home gym for me gives me the motivation to keep working out. Another Pro is that the homegym never closes and you can use it at any time. One big Con is not having other people there to help you with form, but I've just been taking videos and self adjust. Another Con is not having other people there pushing you to do more reps. Another con is allot of home gym equipment are multifunctional, which is nice but you have to account for that time spent configuring the device to do whatever workout.

Missing Pros: - work out barefoot. gyms frown on that for "liability" - don't put on pants. training in your underwear is the best - showering in your shower > gym shower - random extra sets during the day to break up 8-9 hours of sitting if you WFH

If you decide to go for gas later, get quotes in the late spring/summer. I bet those quotes come in much lower. Or do a hybrid where you get the gas plumbing done professionally and you install the heater.

I will say that my garage floor is leveled using a platform covered in rubber mats. The slope being eliminated is the big win and the stall mats simply offer a finished look. If I had a different space I’d agree that totally covering a floor is unnecessary.

I'd go gas 10 times out of 10. I imagine your market os similar to mine, maybe a little more expensive for heater work. Try again in the spring when they're not as busy. Sounds to me like a 4k job unless theres a lot of pipe to run under the house or something. 5k might be a good price in your area though. Electric will no doubt cost you more in the long run and be slower every time you use it.
