I had a “micro mini” pig named chip and when we got him he was smaller than my hand. He grew up to be about 175lbs but still acted like he was little. He was sweet to everyone but we all knew he liked me the most😂 he got hit by a car in August😓 Just wanted to share this mini pigs are great but they are not that mini they take a lot of care but are worth it ❤️

I don't think this is very helpful as a pro and con list at all! To me this appears to be a video made by someone that really does not know anything bout raising a pet pig who is interviewing someone else who knows absolutely nothing about raising a pet pig in the house!! Pigs are not so cute when they are adults, except to their owners or parents! Pigs can get very big, very quickly as they have a special type of metabolism and a growth rate unlike any other animal. I forget what the term was our vet used. They can be very stubborn. When owning a pig you must be the pack leader or they will bully you and can injure you and your children. Dont get me wrong, I love pigs but these are some of the true pros and cons! Pigs are very strong and can be hard to move if they do not want to move! A pig is generally twice as heavy as a dog of the approximate same size. So a 50 pound pig is approximately the same size as a 25 pound dog. A 30 pound pig is the size of a 15 pound dog and this is a very, VERY rare size for a full grown pig! The vast majority of pet pigs are well over 100 pounds! There is no such breed as a "mini" pig. A group of bad, unethical breeders have tried to counter the bad press telling the truth by creating fake "mini pig registrations" and certification websites. These websites are a businesses like any other and anyone can create the same fake certifications and websites, much like the fake "support animal" certification websites popping up all over the internet where you can pay to get a certificate claiming your animal is an "emotion support" animal. Pigs require a lot of training and attention to have a happy, healthy pig. Hitting or being mean to a pig will just cause more problems because they wont want to listen to you. They require respect and a firm authority. Two pigs is better then one, because they are pack animals and do much better emotionally with another pig around. For a pet pig, having a dog or cat around is just not the same as living with another pig! Owning a pet pig is like having a toddler around for 20+ years!! You can't go away and leave them alone very long, they will get in to everything. All your cupboards need safety latches. Safety gates must be very strong because pigs are very strong and muscular. You have to get them used to having their feet touched all the time so you can trim their feet. You have to learn to trim their tusks because they can have trouble eating if their tusks get too long. You can not leave them alone with a dog because even the best dog can get cranky with a pig who roots or nibbles them and dogs will tear off their ears, and severely injure or kill a pig. You have to be careful what you feed them because they will get too fat, which will shorten their life and can even cause blindness! You need to find a competent vet before you get a pet pig, one who can and will spay or neuter them and knows how to treat a sick pig. Many vets will spay or neuter but they may not be competent and pigs have died during this reasonably simple procedure because putting a pig under anesthesia can be a very difficult thing to calculate. This pro and con video does NOT do justice to the true picture of what owning a pet pig means! Do a lot of research before getting a pet pig! Do NOT rely on the pig breeder, far too many LIE, and advice new pig parents to under feed their pet (to stunt their growth) which causes many health problems and can kill a piglet! Bad breeders lying about the size a pig will grow is why there are thousands of the so called "mini" pigs in sanctuaries, rescues and animal shelters or that end up being "set free" in the woods, where they get eaten by predators or hit by cars or in the hands of people who will butcher them! Think about ADOPTING an adult pet pig! They are usually already trained and desperate for someone to love again and you already know how big they will be because they are adults!

They are not easy too have as pets. Every pig is different and they require alot of work. They are loud, they have problems walking on hard wood floors, they can destroy your home. They love to root and will pick things up with their nose like trash cans. They are supper smart. They were mostly on point but a few facts were wrong. Please do not get a pig because they are cute and exotic do lots of research and be ready for the long time commitment because pigs can live as long as 20 years. To many pigs are in shelters so please adopt.

actually. get a pig even if u dont have much knowledge. yeh sure some pigs will be unlucky to have not the ideal owners. but still. we need that sacrafice to spread the knowledge on how smart and adorable these creatures are. and hopefully diminish the amount of meat consumption as it is the number 1 problem for emitting greenhouse gas. animal agriculture is destroying this world. we eat more than we need. All this is looked passed because the general population just think of pigs as food. mann gets me triggered of people who say bacon is good. stfu.. 1 billion people are starving because modernized countries purchase food stock from poorer country. which gives the incentives for poor countries rich to monopolise the food industry etc. sorry, ik this part has nth to do with ur comment 😅

@@hikaru9624 i still do believe it is better than being brutallt slaughtered for food. u think dogs have been treated well? it is just now that it has cone to light in many countries on how to properly keep and own a dog. Just a few years ago, people believed that inflicting pain on dogs will teach them. well thats wrong, it is called Animal cruelty. But eventually the society in general have learnt that is it wrong. This same method will have to be applied to pigs if we truly want them to be known as cute house pets, and eventually people will stop eating pork as they feel selective empathy. So yeh, this is just my opinion. The slaughter house is a digusting place, there is no way in hell that such treated meat can be healthy for us.. lets stop this madness fast. it is an imminent harsh reality. we cant have our morally correct thinking take over.
@anub100official7
@anub100official7 5 жыл бұрын
and tbh. i own 3 piggies. they are destructive when very young. they become fairly relaxed when adults. so.. just like every other youtube video on how to keep a dog as a pet, they will say it is tough as they dont want us to take care of an animal if we dont know how to. which is understandable and correct.
@anub100official7
@anub100official7 5 жыл бұрын
for sure u need basic knowledge. and pigs are probably considered exotic pets. so if there are people interested in having then as house pets, for sure they will ask or do some research on what is required to look after them. once ur neighbor has a pig and many others, the basic knowledge will spread and it will become a common knowledge.

I have a rescued pig named Tiny Belle. She is with me in the picture you see here. She was terribly abused, in a breeding facility being sold for a pet or food. Yes, people do eat pot bellied pigs. I'm an Ethical Vegan, meaning the Ethical piece is that I'm vegan for the animals. Not only do I not eat any animal or eggs, dairy, fish but I do not wear fur leather, wool etc. . I try not to buy anything that is animal tested on and no zoos, rodeo's etc for me. My pig is a natural vegan. She is so smart, clean, and she keeps me entertained. She is a joy, but some people just get a pig because it's a fad etc. They love attention but at the same time like their alone time. Great video you did, and like he said in the video, my pig makes certain sounds . I talk to her, by imitating her sounds. We go back and forth and I'm getting to know what they mean, how she is feeling. Pigs are fantastic animals. I have rescued rats as well, vegan also, and they are smart, clean and such a joy, like my piggy. Thanks for making your video. P.S. pigs are extremely hardy, meaning they don't get sick that often. I'm not getting anything out of recommended this Vegan Cat food. I Mfeed it to my pig and rats along with fruits and veggies everyday. You know if your pig is getting to heavy when the skin on the top of their head is drooping over their eyes. If this happens and remains like that for a period of time, they can lose their eyesight for good. This is the link for the Evolution Diet Pet Food that is vegan for dogs and cats. My rat and pig get the vegan cat food. Make sure kibble is wet for digestion and for urinary track I put cranberry juice in it also. Dry kibble draws all the water away from the digestive system causing constipation. Pigs don't really drink a lot of water unless it's flavored with grape, cranberry, etc juices I have found out. Thanks again www.evolutiondietstore.com/

When I moved to the countryside, at the age of 7, I really bonded to one of my grandmother's pigs. It was great until a day my parents explained that he was suppose to be slaughter that day. I cried so much and my parents understood, especially my mother but the rest of the family laughed at me for feeling sorry for a pig. They even called me his name to make fun of me. Time has passed and I'm 41 yo now but the understanding I had with that pig was something that I never felt with dogs or cats, so I might get one as a pet and give him the life I could not give the other one.

Luna I can give you my opinion: Most people like meat, and they do so because they fail to associate "food" with "its origin". Meat comes from a dead animal. An animal that was killed, obviously against its will, very likely feeling a lot of pain for a long time. They are "enslaved" since birth and treated horribly just to die horribly. The practices of slaughterhouses are just.. unspeakable. Videos are out there to show it. If you think of the reality as simple as that, it's easier to end the dissociation of "meat" and "dead animal/pain" in your head. From my experience, everyone who has done this has slowly been unable to eat meat (or even all animal products). Why do people still eat meat, then? Probably because they don't want to put themselves through all of this, because it's really bad and painful to realize you are doing bad without even intending to, when all you want is tasty food. They don't see the meat in their plate as a tortured animal. People aren't bad, they just can't handle having their world turned upside down, you know what I mean? So, if you look into it enough, you will find yourself questioning what you eat. I also believe this may happen after you get the cute pig, you wouldn't be able to imagine a pig like yours suffering. Truth is, you don't HAVE to do anything. But it sure would be great if you truly understood where your food comes from. To end this on good news: yes, meat tastes great. But did you ever look into vegan recipes? MAN, it's magical! I like the taste of meat, and there are so many ways to recreate that taste in vegan food, it's amazing. And much, much healthier. I had minced soy meat for the first time ever the other day, it tasted exactly like minced meat. Meat is also mostly unhealthy, bad for animals, bad for planet. (check "hot for food" on youtube!!!! AMAZING food. Try cauliflower buffalo wings, thank me later). I honestly hope I could help you in any way. Please, try not eating meat. For the animals :) It was quite easy for me. And good luck with your pig! - This is coming from a vegetarian, slowly becoming vegan, and really enjoying the changes.

The "as easy as a fish" bit -- its key to understand fish are VERY HARD. You're basically playing god because you have to simulate an environment that is completely different from the one we live in, but ideal for the fish, which is much more complex than it seems . Even goldfish husbandry is often misunderstood. Goldfish are hardy, but have a reputation for dying easily, and thats because people would just stick them in a little bowl and that was it. The only animal I've ever had die on my watch, as a result of my mistake, was a little guppy. I gave it clean water, as it had come from a neglectful situation, and nobody told me that going from disgusting dirty, grimey water, to fresh clean water would kill it by shock. So I neglected to use some of the dirty water for the fish's new setup, and the poor little thing died. You would think itd be like a person going from dirty to fresh air, but its not. Every being on this earth is just so utterly complex.There's no such thing as an easy pet. As such are pigs. Pigs are not easy pets. So its very appropriate to compare them to a fish, but your comparison was made for the wrong reasons. Also, whats the point of asking these questions at all to a noobie pig owner with a little baby pig -- who believes the pig is going to get as big as a large dog? Uh, sweeties, think at least 2 large dogs, but probably more. It is useless to show us how great pigs are as pets, or to query new pig owners with a baby pig. Ask someone with experience. Ask someone who, more than once, has raised a cute "easy" little baby into a gigantic, not so cute, 200 lbs "mini" pig. When their bites start to hurt. When their need for space becomes apparent. When they've destroyed some of the house. Cus I see so many videos of baby pet pigs, where the pig suddenly disappears from social media presence when it hits around 4 months to a year. And I know how many of them end up rehomed, euthanized, or abandoned, as people realize they've bitten off more than they can chew.

I'd love to have a pig as pet, the only problem i have is that they grow up to be very big. People often think mini pigs / teacup pics stay tiny forever, i wish it was true but i don't have enough space for a grown up mini pig ☹️

They root or rub or dig with their nose. Lonely pigs will "root" your hand or leg or just about anywhere on your body or another warm animal with their nose. They will root around in the dirt looking for worms, bugs or the roots of grass to eat and can destroy your lawn. Most potbelly pigs how get enough to eat do not root up the lawns, most of their rooting is a comfort mechanism, due to loneliness because pigs are herd animals and really meant to be with another pig. Other animals are fine but another pig makes all the difference in their emotional health. They will root around in a pile of blankets or on a rooting rug, which is specifically designed for them to root or rub their nose on or in. Some owners put food in the rooting rugs or fill a pan or pool with pit balls or hay and toss in small bits of food (Cheerios seem to be a favorite) for the pig to root around in and find the food. I hope you understand a little better what root means now. :)

The worst thing about pigs is the noise they make when they eat. If they squeal, you can just threaten them and they will back off, but when they eat, they just SMACK, SMACK, SMACK, louder than any pig among humans.

My experience with a teacup pig since I had one. They are very fun. Very adorable. And like they said they are very smart too which I was surprised. However they are annoying. Be prepared to be waken up early in the morning by squealing and them biting the kennel which is where we kept him. Even after you let them out and try to go back to bed he will still squeal to get attention. I've had my fun times with my pig. Like when I slept on the couch and had a blanket on me. This little shit decided to bite the blanket and pull it off of me and had the nerve to come up to my face and start making his little snort sounds 😂. I didn't mind. I thought it was funny. But they are a lot of maintenence. However if you don't mind it. They are perfect animals. I just wished my mother wouldn't have given him up. However he is happy now running around with dogs and other farm animals in a big 20 acre land. So we are glad he gets to do that besides being stuck inside the house.
