This was very helpful. Is this only for children of parents with NPD or can the parent just have narcissistic tendencies? Do BPD parents produce this type of child? Can the father be narcissistic and frighten the mom into poor parenting?

Hi Nancy, I am glad this was helpful. Dysfunctional parenting can apply to parents with personality disorders (especially Cluster B - narcissitic, borderline, anti-social and histrionic) or parents who can't parent adequately for any reason i.e., they are in addiction, mentally ill or have unprocessed trauma themselves. There can be many other reasons for a child having these outcomes than having a parent with NPD. To answer your last question - the father could be narcissistic and the mother will then be in the position of being a frightened parent.
