Wait till you get the wrong side of 40. I see a lot of kids in the gym lifting huge weights, especially dead lifts and squats.. With great form it must be said. The thing is, their hips lower back, knees and SI joint aren't going to thank them down the road. That body has to last you a long time folks. Keep it sensible. Just cause you can do it today, doesn't mean you should. Most physios I've seen over the years have been pretty useless. Start with a good sports Doc.... And note i said "good" not just "a". They'll know a good physio if you need one.

I hear people saying this a lot. I think it’s coming from a place of fear mongering (usually not intentionally). Bodies are very robust and I have clients who begin the deadlifting and squatting in their 60s and 70s so I don’t think it’s fair to say that after 40 your back hips and knees will suffer. Change in our bodies is inevitable. Look on imaging at anyone over 25 years of age and you will begin to see signs of change. That happens regardless of whether people have pain or not. The whole topic of pain is extremely complex and most often than not with the chronic pain clients I have worked with - their structure is not a big contributing factor to their symptoms. I get that what I am saying is challenging some beliefs and understandings here so I’m not attempting to negate your experience. Simply offering the perspective that I have attained through working with people in pain for a long time and keeping abreast of the scientific literature and evidence based practice guidelines :)

You have no idea. Wait until you get older and you start developing arthritis and spine/disc/ nerve-related issues due to old injuries. It’s not fun and I never suspected it would be part of my future when I was young.

Sure thing. There is a lot we can do and I think this conversation is more about chronic injuries that prevent us, not avoiding pain entirely but understanding it
