It’s definitely like that at first. I’m 6’1 315 lbs and at first this routine was like that for me as well. I would suggest trying to stick with it for a week. I’ve been following this routine for about 3 weeks now and it’s made a huge difference for me. I’ve always been the least flexible and most prone to cramping person I know and this has been helping me a lot. I can finally touch my toes! As a lardass trying to work off the fat (using cardio), I really want to get into calisthenics. When I see what's needed I get miserable. However, I learned that I should prioritise mobility and flexibility so I'll be starting with this as a whole-body routine. Nice to know that I don't need to get it perfect, but it's awesome to hear you point out "if you can only get this far.. that's fine". Gives me little goals within a bigger goal. Thank you so much for making the PDF free, I've got it printed out ready!
@AndreiDamian

Prioritize nutrition over cardio for fat loss. It is too easy to eat back all the energy lost due to cardio. Do strength work (hyperthrophy), to increase muscle mass, so that you burn more energy. I was and am happy with Caroline Girvan’s Iron Series, which I’ve done a couple of times. I am afraid of calisthenics as well, as I can’t control my body weight so easy in comparison to dumbbells 😅 Best of luck!

Ik this may seem late but, the most important part about stretching is consistency and rest. I had it im my head that “consistency” was stretching every single day, though I was getting flexibility gains in the beginning, I slowly realized that I started going backwards the more and more I felt “consistent.” Now, later on down the line, I had finally realized that your body can’t constantly stretch as much as I was doing in order to actually gain anything. My body needed rest in order for my muscles to fully recover after stretches, especially deep stretches. So, In other words, the moral of the story is: taking breaks from stretching are nessasary for flexibility gains.

It is also a perfectly legitimate form of physical exercise that is learned and practiced my millions purely for its physiological benefits...and since it is a skill that must be learned, it is perfectly valid and moral to be paid to teach it.

I'm only 46 and you don't know how much I have to swallow my pride and how humbling it is to follow a "Beginner" routine. I was a super star athlete in my younger days. In high school, I played football, wrestled and was on the swim team. I grew up training in Taekwondo, became an instructor and dominated the tournaments in my early 20's. I also spent 6 years in the military and was a picture of fitness. But these days, that all seems like a far distant memory and almost feels like it wasn't even me. I honestly forgot what it feels like to be an athlete. I can't even see myself in the mirror anymore. The truth about a mirror is that it doesn't tell the whole truth!

Hi Tom! Thank you for this routine, it's 4 years old now, and I don't know how many times I've followed it, I was doing it every morning when I first started working on my flexibility. Nowadays I rarely use videos, but felt like coming back to this one today, my all time favourite. It's simple, easy, and even builds a little strength, something a lot of flexibility tutorials miss out on!

I started with this video in April 2019. When I started, I could barely stand for more than 20 minutes. I couldn't walk for long periods of time. I was constantly in pain. My legs would randomly go out and I would almost fall. I couldn't walk up a flight of steps without huffing and puffing. I'm only 33 years old. It's been 3 months, and I hardly have any pain at all. Walking is a joy now, it's so smooth and effortless. I just climbed up a step stool in the kitchen without even thinking about it. I've put together a routine of my own based on Tom's demonstrations, basically my favorite stretches and movements of his. I feel better than I have in years. And it's only been three months. Tom, you are a godsend. ❤️

Love your routines. I specifically like that each pose is held for 30 seconds, and are so well explained that I don't always have to look at the screen. Some yoga videos require so much movement and are so complicated that my focus is on trying to figure out what the person is doing and keeping up with them that I don't do the stretch properly, and do not remember to breathe. One had so much back twisting and moving that I threw out my back. With your videos I consistently feel loose and more relaxed by the end. Thank you very much

Im a 26 yrs old man, I haven’t stretch for almost 1 year because of getting to busy from work and life. Thanks for this. I followed everything and I felt relax after stretching. This is my first day and planning to do it everyday from now on. Thanks again

Nobody cares, but I will be doing this every day since now, resting at leats two days per week, and i would like to use this for write down my progress. I hope it'll help motivate someone. (Sorry, I'm Spanish speaker) Day 1: I haven't overexerted myself, I'm honestly not flexible at all, but it has helped me stretch my muscles and feel really good. (No me he esforzado de más, honestamente no soy para nada flexible, pero me ha servido para estirar bien los músculos y sentirme muy bien.) Day 2: Day two turned out to be strangely easier in the morning. I did it as soon as I woke up, I fell a couple of times due to lack of balance, I laughed very badly. I'm motivated to keep going. (El segundo día resultó ser extrañamente más fácil por la mañana. Lo he hecho apenas me he despertado, me he caído un par de veces por falta de equilibrio, me he reído muy mal. Estoy motivado a seguir.) Day 3: Rest. Day 4: I have tried to go the extra mile on some stretches and my body has allowed it! It's nothing very impressive, but I haven't fallen this time. (He intentado llegar más allá en algunos estiramientos y mi cuerpo me lo ha permitido! No es nada muy impresionante, pero no me he caído esta vez) Day 5: Done. (Hecho) Day 6: Done. (“) Day 7: Rest. Day 8: I've been doing the routine for a week now, and it's very comforting how it hurts less and less. Progress is not very evident yet, but my back posture has improved as the days go by. I'll keep doing it until I get used to my body and go to the next level. Have a great day!
