Why not? Are you suggesting that you don’t want others to know? If so, I wonder if that mentality contributes to the anti social behavior that some preppers claim society will devolve into
@MacKeyser
@MacKeyser 3 жыл бұрын
@@valthomas9786 Short of being part of a prepping club, you don't tell others because as the rule of law breaks down, you don't want to become a target. Preppers are realists at heart. Society is specifically the rules we all agree to live by with after the fact consequences. We don't murder people because we don't want to be murdered, not because of laws. Those simply punish after the fact and studies show the punishment isn't a deterrent. The point is that much of how things actually work on a daily basis all over the world are shared choices to cooperate. The problem in scarcity is that cooperation breaks down when it's needed most. We already know how society would cease to be the civilization we know and become not just anarchy, but a truly dystopian nightmare... more quickly than anyone can imagine. Preppers simply acknowledge the reality of that and prepare accordingly... not just with guns or food, but also bushcraft, gardening, fishing and a host of other skills. the truth is that most preppers will suffer the same fate as most folks, maybe just a little later as they either have underlying health conditions, didn't obtain a full survival skill set, overprepared in one area at the expense of others (too many guns, not enough food...too much food, not enough weapons... no legit bushcraft skills, etc.) or suffer an injury that cannot be solved without modern medicine. So, no. You don't want others to know and yes, part of the very idea of prepping is based on the universal acknowledgment that anti-social behaviors would begin within days if not hours.

Many city folk have the plan that they will just leave the city. They are going to a place where they went camping. And then hunt and fish for survival. But we who live here have other plans. We will chainsaw down huge trees to block the road. We will put up a sign then shoot all who go around it. Stay away from our property city folk. We have earned this with our labor and hardships. If you want in, move here and help.

Same here, I always learn basic survival skills for camping and urban survival stuff. In Turkey when a coup attempt happened I was in my home at the 3rd floor winter garden with my gun, several knives, binoculars and walkies. I watched armed vehicles and soldiers barricading the main roads. Luckily nothing happened. And when the coronavirus was detected in China and in the news, I bought a gas mask and started buying food, hygiene supplies etc. All of my friends laughed. I said " You won't be laughing when the first case in Turkey reported. Then the first case in Turkey reported in news and my college shutted down just in case. I bought my ticket to my hometown because I'm from a town like the Siberia or Rocky Mountain region of America. ( My hometown is %97 forest but I was studying veterinary medicine in İstanbul ) Once again all of my friends said there is no need for that but I thought '' Time to bug out and bugging in my safe hometown where all of my family and preps were there.'' Then the outbreak started and lockdown started. All of my friends was feeling bored and isolated at their small apartments in İstanbul but I was firing the grill with my family, iced tea in my hand, eating fruits, vegetables from my garden. The world didn't end but I had a very quality time with my family after a long time ago. Survivalist mindset is no joke, it's beneficial for living in comfort while other people freak out for basic things like toilet paper.

Not a bad idea to be prepped. Many governments say you should have a kit for 3 weeks to a few months time incase a huge disaster happens and FEMA can't help. But there are some crazy prepper people who are straight up insane or stupid. They look at every detail in the news or crazy conspiracy ideas and think the world is coming to an end next week. There is this guy in Horning's Mills Ontario, Canada. He buried a bunch of school buses and made a bunker. It was subsidized by the government and people reserved spaces. If you ask him he will gladly show it to you. Decades after the cold war the busses are rotting away, there is a layer of soil on the ground, and his soup turned black, yet he insists the bunker is ready to go and eats the black soup. lol. I'd take my chances on the surface or just go to some of the nearby caves.

I hope part of your preps include protecting those preps, from gangs of raiders. Get LOTS of armed friends to protect your commune. One family will fall within two weeks. You will need at least double the number of people you think, after thinking about it, because sleeping in shifts cuts your work force, and protection force in half. They will come with IR googles, multiple vehicles, grenade launchers, suppressors... loud one night, silently three nights later, the whole thing. They will test you first, then let you exhaust yourself after days or weeks on heavy watch, then come for you, when you are all exhausted - in full force. You need a community, not just a few families at your commune. You will need to anticipate moraless, and trained people in groups. The worst parts of the Bible.

Those that make fun of prepping have not lived through something like hurricane Katrina. I did. We didn't have clean water for 2 weeks. We drank from the creek bathed in the creek. We ate fish squirrel rabbit and deer. You will be thankful for what you can get your hands on when the shit hits the fan. To tell how weird that experience was, I seen a bream fish stuck in the side of a tree. Literally this fish went into the tree. I seen a traffic light on the side of the road. The nearest traffic light was 8 miles away. I watched pine trees twist and snap like a twig. Then came the humidity. It was only 97 98 degrees most of the time which is nothing in south ms but when u add 100% humidity you can barely breathe. People were fighting shooting and stabbing each other for gas for their generator. We hid our food so no one would try and steal it. People were putting small push mowers beside folks generators so they would still hear a running engine and then steal the generator. Lots of folks got shot for stealing. Long story short not all preppers are crazy people.

People who think prepping is weird are living with 20th century American normalcy bias. Even the lower class here live under better conditions than most royalty, let alone the masses of humanity, throughout human history. I'm a Texas prepper. I supported 9 people during the freeze. No stores, no water, no electricity. Somebody has to do it. I enjoyed it. It was a good shakeout. We had food, water, wood heat, natural water source, etc. It was fun, but Preppers know more than anyone how unprepared even WE are for a long-term disaster. I'm not prepared and I grow over an acre of food, have over 1000 pounds of stored goods, have milk goats, etc. The math is daunting. A human being eats 750,000 calories per year. I have 7 to support. That's close to 5 million calories of food. A can of green beans is about 70 calories total. We have to work to know how to not only store food, but how to grow grains, potatoes, squash in bulk.. 1000 lbs of potatoes is only 400,000 calories. That's only 6 months for ONE person... 1000 lbs. Most "preppers" aren't prepared. The absolute volume is amazing. Hopefully it'll never be needed.

One thing I learned as a street cop for 33 years is most people live in their own little bubble world and the shit never hits the fan for them their whole lives, but when it does they have no plan and no chance. These same people think the government will be there for them but what they don’t realize is they are on their own and you better be able to survive without assistance. At minimum you need to store Food, water, weapons, ammunition, medicines, and a way to pay for things other than paper money or electronic currency. Having silver, gold etc. None of these things are items you wouldn’t use anyway or would be bad investments.

In January 2020 I had been listening to smalltime news personalities on KZbin monitoring what was happening in China. Being a prepper myself I understood what I was seeing there was coming my way really quickly. So I decided to flush out my preps a bit more. I went to my local food market and bought a shopping cart of canned goods since they last almost forever. While in line a young lady my age laughingly asked "Whats up with all the cans?". At that moment I told her "Its just for my pantry that is low" in order to not sound like a crazy end of the world lunatic. I look back now and regret not telling her the truth of what was coming our way and that she should at least restock her kitchen. At that moment I had been more worried about not looking weird instead of trying to let others around me know the danger we all faced. The extremely negative stigma of "preppers" is what made me keep my mouth shut when I could have possibly helped others around me. I truly regret that moment.

I guess compared to his income level. Aside from the 2,000 pounds of meat and the freezers needed for that, a backup generator and a few years worth of rice and water would be easily doable for a middle class family and would mostly fit in a closet (you'd need more space than that for the water). Artwork w/spray paint, 20 people watching him do his thing, then sell them for a great deal, but he was quick, as well as very creative! Apparently, they're "hiding" the comedy clubs? Some of my favorite "Tales of The Trip" video excerpts really blew my mind! Many great comics here still! And I believe we have the worse Mayor in The US. It's gotten much to large, to fast. No one questions our Mayor about not doing what he ran on, but his prediction of what would happen if he didn't do these things he promised, has become more true. A County wide scandal? We live in Houston where every responsible person would be prepping - because if it isn’t a hurricane or a tropical storm or just a line of thunderstorms on tax day it will be a winter storm or just a broken water main on a clear beautiful day that takes a week to repair, but regardless of the cause it seems at least once a year we have some event that cuts the power and water for a few days. So be responsible and just be prepared with some food and water to make it through.

As an Eagle Scout, our motto was and is "Be Prepared." I don't understand why people solely depend on stores being open every single day. Forget about pandemic, WW3, etc... simple weather or something unknown can lead to shortages of food, water, supplies, etc... so many can't survive a 72 hour "inconvenience" let alone a month or a year. People think it can't happen. These people are 100% dependent on the government to save them.....they won't.

Lol. I am in charge of seafood at my local grocery store. At the beginning of the pandemic we had no idea what the lethality rate of the virus was, only the hype and fear we heard. In the end we all agreed we would die at our store, because if we, and all the people like us stopped working, than, realistically everyone would die anyways. Fear is for people who's jobs don't matter.

I’ve seen how quickly it devolves multiple times over my 33 years, and I will say, every time it seems to speed up in terms of the initial phases of disordered to no food supplies and subsequent looting. From multiple hurricanes, especially hurricane Katrina where violence and looting started extremely quickly, to being on a fishing trip in Venezuela at the start of revolution and social disorder. Being prepared and having a plan goes a long way.

One night coldest day of the year in my mobile hidden tiny home. I didn't turn heat on. This was a test. It was about 15 degrees water frozen inside tiny home in a bottle. 2 cheaper sleeping bags, 4 layer hat, 9 blankets on top of sleeping bags (To Much). I went to sleep with just shirt and underwear on inside sleeping bags in 15 degrees. After about 40 minutes I started to get hot and sweat when inside 2 sleeping bags I was in and 1 blanket on top, took off other 8 blankets. Couldn't believe how warm I got with no heat turned on. And with the right gear - clothes on you don't need heat at all. Heat is a want not a need in a real SHTF!!! Another test on a job in my hidden tiny home no windows or doors open for security and if it started raining didn't want things wet, hottest day in summer. 105 degree heat with a Ridgid 9 amp hour battery powered fan 6 inches from my face with my head and face wet went to sleep during day with about 60 percent humidity. But for this test I had to have the battery powered fan on and in my face to stand it. I just don't have my tiny home finished yet. Always good to practice real world scenarios before they happen. My father was in the military and more hard core than a drill sargent!

My prepping experience started about 30 years ago. I live in Texas, tornado alley. I initially nought a few things for that type of scenario. I was young and single, in an apartment. By the time I got married and started having kids, buying a house etc... I built up my preparations to suit that dynamic. From the late 80s, I was aware of people like Yuri Bezmenov... and was waking up to the kind of threat he was detailing. I understood the wealth transfer out this country, to the elites was happening. I remember Chinese firms bringing workers over, dismantling steel mills, and physically moving them to China. I understood how destructive NAFTA was. I saw the eternal wars kicking off. There was Ruby Ridge, Waco, Unabomber, etc... Watching government response to these, and how narratives were being built around them...Hearing the term "political corretness" for the first time in 1992 on Nightline with Ted Koppel, and immediately seeing that it was just a rebranding of Cultural Marxism, and knowing what was in store... 9/11, WMDs, the war in Yugoslavia... It didn't take rockets science to link things together, and see that it was going to head to this exact moment in time, that we are currently facing. So prepping took on a whole new scope. We did what we could in those times, with what was available to us. We've gone through bug-out bags, bug-out vehicles, to bugging IN and stocking and fortifying our suburban home. Fast forward to 2022, and we live in the woods, and are largely self sufficient. Friends and family telling us the whole way that we are over reacting...still to this day with everything thats gone down...we still get teased and ridiculed. Thankfully we are just far enough away to where none of those people can easily make it to our door in their time of need.

In our community this winter we have dealt with municipal water pipe broke outside the water plant (no water 3 days) and power outage (1 day). Luckily not at the same time. The power outage affected a wide area of the state and was forecasted (had other electric companies and tree companies on standby). We had assurances of when the services would be restored but it made you think of what if this happens on a longer basis. Stock up on basics. We have too many people depending on going to the grocery store to pickup food every nite. Very few have freezers to store food as a backup plan.

I'm not a super prepper, but when the plandemic hit, I didn't need to rush to the store for anything, wife and I have but up a dozen 4 level steel shelves and for years, we would but items that we need by the dozen, like a dozen bottles of Dawn, alcohol, TP cases, dozens of aluminum foil etc. as standard stuff. We buy meat on sale and put it into individual bags and freeze. Have a generator, freeze dried food which will last 25-30 years about enough for 4 months on freeze dried alone . (I strongly suggest Mountain House freeze dried,) it is great tasting food but it is not cheap. The only thing we were short on were things like milk because you can't really stash much of it. We are planning to either build a fuel efficient room in the basement where we can go and conserve power to last longer to getting a shipping container to use as a shelter to conserve heat etc with solar panels. When we need an item, we go down stairs to our "store" and get what we need, when we consume the item, we go to the store and replace so we have a constant supply. Water filter are a must, we have a well and a large pond and a small lake near by for water. Plenty of ammo and arms to keep what we have. I suggest everyone do the same to the level that you can.
