5:32 The worst judgement of Sean Strickland. He is probably the most empathetic person in UFC. His respect towards normal working class people is really from the heart. He Does not have ASPD.
@PsychologyOfTheFight10 ай бұрын
I think it’s difficult to pick and choose. I think it’s tough to attack races, religions, beliefs, and everything in between, but be empathetic towards the working class and have that overshadow everything else you say. But with that being said, I appreciate the comment. Constructive criticism and different perspectives help me make better videos in the future.

@@PsychologyOfTheFight "doesn't understand that his words are making people feel a certain way" - I think he is amongst groups of fighters that hurl insults at each other while pretending not to be bothered. It's nothing new. You could say this about most of the fighters that make use of the media and hype. The insults and thoughts are all-encompassing and span a lot of issues. To directly quote Mirriam-Webster's definition of empathy: "the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of another" - it's obvious how much thought and consideration there is to insult one another. It takes a good understanding and sensitivity of experience and feeling to know what insults work or sting the most. His insults towards any particular group are similar in controversy, with gut-wrenching, thought-provoking irony you get from comedians. He's deliberately less empathetic towards some things for cause and effect rather than lack of capacity. You're right, his struggle through hardship and demons, and choice to find a positive outlet along with his liberal expression of it all is very compelling and relatable to many.
@adambalogh72399 ай бұрын
Agreed, he actually is very empathetic, but since he endured the shit he had to endure, he has a high expectation of other people as well, and wont show the empathy he has toward them, because comforting others breeds weakness, and I think thats his thought process as well
@saprogrammer270210 ай бұрын
I'd disagree that he has a lack of empathy and egocentrism. I think he has more empathy than most people, especially if you look at the quality of the relationships he has at his gym, and how people see him as a leader and trust him, even before he was a champion. He also doesn't flaunt his wealth like most fighters.
@PsychologyOfTheFight10 ай бұрын
Hey! In hindsight, I definitely think of all the traits, empathy was the biggest stretch. While he was kicked out of multiple gyms, you are right in that he has really found his home. Thank you for the great feedback and for stopping by!

@noneatallatanytime10 ай бұрын
Very well done and interesting to watch. I hope you don't mind me adding my take. There is a difference between someone who is narcissistic in the lack of empathy sense and someone who is narcissistic because of fear. People who have gone through extreme trauma are often stricken with fear that can come out as unempathetic. The same reason a child would insult another child just because they themselves are afraid of not being appreciated. This happens to adults too but is more common with children. It is a form of preemptive retaliation. My take on Strickland is that he is consumed by his world view that the world is inherently evil and that people are mostly evil. This makes him fearful of love and kindness so all his interactions with the world are attempts at reinforcing his world view. The only way to deal with someone like that is to be loving and kind unconditionally. I bet that if any future opponent of his take this approach to Strickland we will see a Strickland that is facing his deepest fears and becomes vulnerable and unrecognizable. For Strickland to accept that the world is not inherently evil and that people are good (true or not is not the point) would force him to realize that evil was directed at him in particular. This is an incredibly difficult realization as it would shift his view of himself from one evil amongst other evil to someone who was not loved. To not be loved or wanted, especially by your parents, for the sole reason of you being you is exceptionally demoralizing.

Almost resembles how Conor believed in himself and engrained a rare confidence when he was first coming up in the UFC. Just an idea, you've covered plenty of good fighters. So if anything some fighters, possibly Brandon Moreno with his ups and downs from becoming champ every other fight, Topuria as stated, or maybe even Justin Gaethje's ultimate warrior state of mind.
