This was one of Will Smith's greatest acting movies. The Pursuit of Happiness and Seven Pounds. He should have won the Oscar for The Pursuit of Happiness. Also, the movie was based on the true story of Chris Gardner, the black man who walks past Will Smith and Jayden at the end of the movie. Great movie.

Jayden actually killed it in this film. He plays the innocent sad and confused child personality very well. I can only imagine how the actual son felt during these times of not understanding some choices his father had to make in order for them to be successful and live a life of their own 🤧
@thejamppa

Will Smith was awesome in this film. This very well might be his best acting role. Too bad about Jayden, playing innocent and confused child doesn't work later on. In this film there was hype Jayden be next big thing after his father. Later it became clear that he can't act. It was painfully clear After Earth. He had one face: I-am-about-to-burst-crying 98% of the film. The one moment where he was suppose to be sad, he found his angry face. It was painful to watch.

The guy he passed and looked back at in the end was the actual Chris Gardner. I’ve teared up watching movies, but this is the first movie I ever bawled my eyes out for. I also never cried in a theater and I did not care - I let it all out. I was so happy for him at the end. Such a great story and Will did a great job. Regarding what you said at the end re: money making you happy, I do believe if your worries are around things that money is the solution for, then yes, money will obviously take away that/those particular stressors. But if you are a miserable person with demons/trauma, money doesn’t take those things away. Look at all of the rich people who turn to drugs for an escape and OD or commit suicide. They money didn’t “make” them happy because they had issues that had nothing to do with money. Also, if you’re just a negative and pessimistic person who sees life based on what you don’t have rather than what you do, money couldn’t possibly make you happy because it will never be enough and you will never have enough of what you want. There would always be something else. Your mortgage could be paid off, you could have enough in retirement, food in the fridge, clothes on your back, a car in the garage, and a nice savings account, and you’d still be griping about the second car you can’t afford, only having a 4 bedroom house, your retirement account not having $2M in it, only $1M, not having cracked $250K in savings, etc.

Exactly. I remember when this first came out and my coworkers and I were talking about it and she was saying the wife was disloyal. I said the same thing you did, that to her, who has been pulling double shifts for months on end just barely making it and your partner comes in talking about what, to you, seems like a pipe dream when you’re barely keeping a roof over your heads and food on the table, I probably would have reacted the same way.

Agreed... That simply was a couple struggling and at that moment in their relationship; it was best they separate and make their own way. Sure, you can always argue "that woman needs to stand with her man...", but until you are faced with that situation; you have no idea. Chris and Curtis totally understood their dynamic. This movie also cemented; whatever we are pursuing out there (work, etc..); let's have some understanding of what each of us might be going through.... Especially, the last few pandemic years.

Being a woman myself I forget that society puts so much pressure on men by being the man, providers, they can't be seen as weak otherwise they are seen as failures. Imagine working double shifts for months as a hotel maid so you're already stressed and on the edge all the time because you're worried about bills and living costs then have your partner call you 'weak' and say that you can't take care of your son was like a slap to the face. Everyone is looking at Will Smith as the star of this film, but the role of the son is played by Will's actual son, Jaden Smith. You should compare their interaction in "After Earth", in which the two of them also star. Interesting that you speak so highly about Will's acting in this film. I recall in the press surrounding the release of this film (I was paying attention at the time, and I did see this first-run in the theaters), that this film was a turning point in his acting for him. he spoke particularly of the scenes in the bathroom, when the characters had no place else to go, that he really felt the weight of being a father in such a situation. He came to realize his previous acting had been acting like he's acting, but with this film it was a lot more personal, a lot closer to the bone. After all the years before and "Fresh Prince of Bel Air", it was THIS film that taught him his craft.

Really appreciate your reaction and how understanding your are with both parents. I guess I was too young when I've first seen this film. Back then, I was honestly furious at the mother for leaving them behind. But re-watching it made me realize how challenges in life can really break you. They both have their faults. Although, we can all agree that no reason can excuse you from leaving your child, we're not in the same position as her so we really can't say to just suck it all in, esp when we know that she had a fair share (and maybe more) or the hardship of providing for her family (except in the latter part of raising their kid). I'm honestly tired of people saying that it's all about our choices that can make us successful, although in most cases that is true, there could be instances when our hands are tied and we can't really do anything about it. As sad at it is, it's not true that we all have the same starting point, we are not presented with the same opportunities.

Surprisingly a few months later Chris was giving a motivational speaking at the college I graduated from and worked at. We fed the guests who were there. I bought another book and had Chris sign it and I gave that copy to my nephew. After the speaking engagement was over and he signed all those books he came up to me and said, “Y’all got some more fried chicken back there?” 😂 By that time all the food was gone and I said, “No but I can get you a bottle of water!” 🤦🏾‍♀️ He laughed and hugged me and kissed me on my forehead 😁❤️

Great video y’all!🔥 I saw that y’all went on a streak of some hood movies and I’d like to suggest some: hustle n flow, ATL, four brothers, get rich or die tryin, gridiron gang, house party, & the harder they fall! It’s alot but any of these would be sick! ❤ keep up the work G’s!

I hate when people say money doesn't make you happy. My response is asking them what makes them happy. Country boys will say they are happy when they go mudding. I say back to them, how did you get the truck to do that? Some people will say they love to read novels. I'll say, how did you get that novel without money. Some people will say they love to spend the day on the beach. I'll say, how did you get the swim suite, sunscreen, blanket and the ride you needed to get there without money? Money in itself isn't the happiness, it provides the means and opportunities to give you happiness.

For real, it's provides with stability and survival; people who say money doesn't make them happy have never experienced life without money.

I took a similar route - from delivering papers, to construction, to Wall Street. Man, you gotta bust butt and think fast, but "if" you survive the first year.. It's all downhill from there. Love it now.

Finally someone used Cameo correct. I hate when people incorrectly say Cameo just cuz the person is a celebrity. That isn't what Cameo means. They don't even have to be a celebrity. That would be a Celebrity Cameo. Cameo just means a short part, usually a minute or less! Thank You! For using it correctically! You are a poet and a Scholar!

One of the best movies I have watched for sure! He never gave up...he couldn't. Too much at stake...and he made it! I cry every time I watch this. "FINDING FORRESTER" is another phenomenal movie staring Sean Connery - the very first Agent 007!

It’s a scientific fact that money up to a certain point makes you happier. People argue on the number. Back in 2018 ish I heard 80-100k per year. Might be 150k a year right now. As a man I believe whatever the amount is that comfortably buys a very nice house 2-3 cars supports a spouse and 2-3 kids is that number. After that it’s a lot of semantics

One of my favorite movies but hard to watch because my mom went through a similar thing with us kids (3 girls). I’m the oldest, so I can remember the times we were homeless, in a shelter, and going to food pantries. Same as with the character, when I was young I didn’t want to get married or have kids if I couldn’t provide a safe space for them and a good father. Then I met my now-husband and we have two kids. It’s still difficult at times, me being an introvert who needs space and alone time to recharge, but I wouldn’t change my life, well, maybe I’d take better care of my health earlier. But that’s it. It is what it is. ❤❤❤

I went to prison for selling drugs at the age of 20. During my 7 yr sentence I saw this movie about yr 3-4 and it just did something for me that I still can’t explain til this day. Prior to prison I had no job skills other than selling drugs. I had vowed to myself I would never go back to that again but had no clue what I would do becuz I had next to zero useful skills. Any idea that I had during those 7yrs would get shot down by ppl around me that I’m a convicted felon and that would never work. But that speech he gave his son during the bball game struck a chord with me and was fit my current situation. Fast fwd to now. Been a free man for over a decade, never ever broke the law again, went back to college and got a degree and am now a Data Analytics Manager of a pretty prestigious firm and well into the 6 figures. Not tryna humble brag, but tryna point out that watching that movie while in prison had a huge impact on my life and made me believe that I could make it one day when I’m free.

8:38: thank you for appreciating her point of view. I have seen a lot of people who look at her like she is just being a greedy B. It's not like she's not trying, she's just frustrated as well The movie focuses on the troubles that he went through, but that doesn't make her a b. Her attitude later, that's a different story Edit: totally appreciate that you understand where she is coming from. I don't agree with her decisions at all, personally I could never leave my child. And there are a lot of people who deal with a lot worse in their relationships. I believe that "I'm frustrated with you" is a reason for help, not leaving. But they were not on the same page on any level. And I'm glad you guys did not put that solely on her like a lot of people would/have

This movie hurts so much to watch, but necessary. My mom was a single, immigrant parent. She escaped my Dad who was a severe alcoholic and abusive. She knew nothing about him or his family because he was a manipulative, possessive liar. We were never homeless, but we were close to many times and we continuously moved around due to Section 8 changes, raises in rent and because my Dad would stalk her. She once stayed up all night holding me by our door in the dark, checking the lock every minute or so, praying that my dad would give up on knocking and believe nobody was home. This movie I first watched as a preteen, and let me see my mom's perspective through Will. The fact that she was never around because of how much she had to work to make ends meet, and why I was always at daycare till late in the evening or sent away to live with relatives in Mexico for long periods of time.

With all due respect we live in a society that says for the most part that any man who leaves his family is a coward. This woman left the family she built and she doesn't get to just use the excuse that it's due to her being tired of her husband and his decisions. If his journey as a stock broker would've went right while she was there then she would've stayed.
