THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS MOVIE REACTION! Today I'll be watching a film I have never seen before Will Smith The Pursuit of Happiness released in 2006 for the first time. Here's my ERASETHIS reaction. Want to watch the ENTIRE Movie with me? Check out: / timotheereacts
Life is a struggle for single father Chris Gardner (Will Smith). Evicted from their apartment, he and his young son (Jaden Christopher Syre Smith) find themselves alone with no place to go. Even though Chris eventually lands a job as an intern at a prestigious brokerage firm, the position pays no money. The pair must live in shelters and endure many hardships, but Chris refuses to give in to despair as he struggles to create a better life for himself and his son.

This movie hit close to home for me. I grew up in a single mom household. A teen mom at that so we struggled so hard. I remember once when I was little my mom told me we were going camping. I got so excited because we never been camping before. We shared a sleeping bag and everything, I held on to that memory for such a long time. But I didn’t find out until years later that we got evicted from our apartment. The camping trip? We slept at a playground because we were homeless but my mom didn’t want to freak me out. Despite all the struggles my mom never wanted me to lose that part of my childhood because of our reality. She kept it together for us. This movie had me bawling. I had to call her just to tell her how much I love and appreciate everything she went through but still kept on being a great mom.

Will Smith gave one of his best performances, and Jaden Smith, in his first significant role with his dad, showed promise and potentials. Both were great.

Having Jaden Smith star alongside his dad Will Smith as his son in this drama is quite heartwarming and at times grim over how financial hardship can happen if you can’t keep a stable job.

When I was 4 my mom, dad brother and I lived in our car for awhile it was rough but we had love for each other and made it out of that bad situation thankfully! We all are thriving now I'm 28, married with 2nd kid on the way in our own home! Life isn't always easy! This movie always made me cry so sad but so powerful!

I felt the part where he tried to open the window to the place he got evicted from, it’s been 3 years since I got evicted from my first apartment but nothing as sweet as he had it, I woke up too a police officer at my door and no where to go. I had to sneak into a abandoned house, would hide under a sink if someone was touring the house it just was a wild ride and this movie honestly does nothing but humble me in the end.

I can’t remember if this or Schindler’s List was the first movie that made me cry, but I’m pretty sure they were the first and second ones to do it. Will’s acting in this movie was so real and Gardner’s story is easy to get emotional over.

Like me, I had a good life to work as a preschool teacher in Southern California. Suddenly, pandemic COVID-19 comes upon us. Everything had been lockdown and I lost my job. After two years that I lived in patient and working with my family to save my money to find a home and get a new job. The school is opening again and I applied a job. Sadly, they reject me. I apply another job. They also reject me. All Southern California has no jobs available to any of school. So, my family’s friends told them that there are jobs available in Washington state. I applied the job at King County, WA. I got interviewed at zoom while I was on Southern California. A week later, I got a letter from email and it says I got job. I moved to Washington state and I got a good job and a good home

I’ll bet it must have been hard to leave Southern California behind though, right? Like you’ve built almost everything there your whole life, only to move away for a new opportunity.

@@twist58 Southern California had so many memories from my past. It was peaceful at first. But then, everything is changing and everybody were having some issues that they cannot find the job. When I went to the airport from Palm Springs to Seattle, I looked at the window. It was hard to say good bye. Now I am home to King County, WA and starting for a new life: Happiness and live

I feel like more movies now could use a story like this - that it's okay to fail, and that you should keep trying and keep getting up even when the world brings you to your knees. Nowadays, people think that everything that they wanted to work for and wish for should be handed over to them like a silver platter. I wanted to be an aspiring screenwriter and hope to one day write for movies and TV shows (and my one dream is to actually helm a live action Seven Deadly Sins franchise based on the anime of the same name). So many people have said that they wouldn't recommend a career in filmmaking because it gives them a low chance of success and it doesn't pay well and you can't start a family, and I've thought this over and over, even when I started my new life trying to get a certificate in Creative Writing (I'm about to finish my program at the end of April and I'm acing the classes fairly well). I've spent the last several months thinking about whether or not this would be ending badly or if I should just play it safe... and it brought me back now to this movie. This one movie had this quote: "If you have a dream, you got to protect it... if you want something, go get it." I feel like, after watching this movie through your reactions, I'm going to go get to work on some outlines that I want to figure out and flesh out as best as I can, as well as finishing my Creative Writing Certificate program on a high note.

This film is incredible. Out of all the movies Will has done this one is my favorite. Will Smith is such a phenomenal actor. Him and Jaden. Loved your reaction to this, Tim! I wish a lot more people reacted to this film it's so underrated in my opinion. Life can be so hard but this movie, I feel, teaches you to never give up and staying positive even in the hard times of life. Also, I'm not one to give out movie suggestions but there's another movie with Will and Jaden Smith called "After Earth" it being my second favorite movie Will has done. I would love to see your reaction to it.

I always have mixed feelings about this film, or anytime other films highlight "inspirational" stories like this. Is a lovely story? Yes. Does it perpetuate the myth of the American Dream and imply that if you're "failing" you're just not working hard enough? Also yes. I and so many I knew grew up with families who worked their asses off and it wasn't enough to consistently keep us in a home or with basic necessities. I have no illusions that I'm where I'm at today just because of hard work or determination: the compassion of other people and a massive dose of luck had much more to do with it than any talents I possess. This country's attitude toward the struggling and the homeless is extremely frustrating.
@vitamins00
@vitamins00 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say it’s telling that you’re failing if you don’t work hard enough. I think it’s saying the opposite. That despite so many people working themselves to the bone day in and day out, sometimes life just refuses to give you a break and release you from the chokehold. Only a lucky few can make it out from those struggles. If it was saying the opposite, then Chris wouldn’t have been in problems in the first place bc he was always a hard worker. It would have been about a lazy bum loser who had to learn to work hard to overcome his struggles. That would be saying that you get what you work for. Chris was hard working since day 1 but the American dream didn’t come to him bc it’s not only about who works the hardest.

Even though I wasn’t in the kind of situation where we were evicted or kicked out. I was raised a very strong and emotionally damaged mother. So most of the time it was just me and my brother at home or I sometimes spend time with my cousins after school. We lived paycheck by paycheck even if my mom had a good paying job, she had a very bad spending habit (which I unfortunately picked up growing up).. I also did not have the best relationship with my mom either. There were times where she couldn’t pay for some of the bills. We would come home to no hot water, no phone, no electricity. We moved around constantly, but within the same city.. and my mom would not settle for an apartment. She always wanted a house…😆 so I honestly didn’t have a permanent home.. and if me and my mom had a really bad argument she would kick me out of the house. So I either stayed with my best friend or go to my aunts house. It was when I lived with my aunt for a few months where I learned about the value of money. I did still struggle with saving/budget if my finances, but at least I learned from my mom’s mistakes. Even until I moved away to New York, I still didn’t live with my mom because we just always fought. She was pissed off when I told her I wanted to move away to New York. But I needed that time away from her, to go on my own path. She did her best raising me and my brother, but we just could not stand living with her. 😆 But now we have better communication and relationship. She is doing much better now in terms of her finances and is in a better part of her life. Honestly, my mom was going through a lot back then.. she was dealing with her shortcomings, trauma, and wounds from the past. So I understood why she could be cold and harsh with me and my brother. For me, I’m still figuring out life…even when I’m supposed to be in the age where I should be married and have kids and living a “comfortable life”. That is the ideal life right? But I guess my life path or purpose is different you know? My mom still gives me a hard time about my career choices, but this is my HAPPINESS and dream that I want to pursue..not hers. 💪

I was a little confused by the story a little , it seems like when I try to get a feel of the story and your resection you kept verbally over compensating so much at that most pivotal points. Usually you do good with letting the story be heard and giving your reaction but not on this one for some reason.

So look did anyone forget about the mom. She actually has a job making money staying with her sister and her boyfriend has someone to watch the kids while she's working not living in the one-way house or whatever they called. She was destroyed by the relationship with Christopher because he is a liar and a manipulator and a bad person to be honest. Just until his internship is over in a start making money he can stay anywhere but the kids shouldn't have to stay with him in these places. Mom didn't do anything wrong, she was just stressed out as much as Chris.
