Yes ideally something dark like a smartphone with gorilla glass. The S95C coating was pretty good although not resiliant like gorilla glass it is very dark black looking unless you shine a really bright light up close on it and then you see its deep red. +1 for glassy glossy though for sure!

Yeah not really. My fo32u2p got pretty much ruined by microfiber cloth and like 80% ethanol (are whatever is the officially recommended concentration). It's quite scratched up really. Not unusable but you can definitely see it in daylight. Considering the price of that monitor I find this kinda unacceptable.

You can tell this guy does not know how to clean a monitor. My 271QRX looks brand new and Ive wiped it with a damp dishrag (cloth or whatever you call it in the states) making sure its a flat surface, you have to do it over and over again gently until all the tiny smear dots you display in your video vaporate thanks to the air. At first you'll have lots, you'll even have long streaks. But let it air dry, go again, let it air dry, go again until the cloth is no longer as damp and the monitor starts to look brand new. Oh yeah always go the same direction each time. This video is a bit of a clickbait. But then again this guy is ALL clickbait on his other channel. Ive had the monitor since it came out.

I'm sorry to say this but cleaning your monitor with microfiber cloth is wrong, use microfiber silk lens clothes (the same one you would use to clean your glasses with) and you will never have scatches, i've ben using my QD Oled for 2 years cleaned alot and not a single scratch. i recommend using 2 of those clothes by the way 1 wet the other to dry it.

I have a G9 QD-OLED model. I take care of it, I don't touch it and I have something like micro scratches /scratches on it. With the GPT chat, I came to the conclusion that they may have been caused by eating in front of the monitor - you read that right. Fats / juices can react with the QD-OLED matrix. I have no other idea where they could have originated from. It is enough that you ate ordinary soup in front of the monitor and microdroplets fell on your monitor coating, no one cleans the monitor every day, it is done at most a few times a month. I am totally disappointed / let down - the monitor is just 3 months old and I already have several such "scratches". The product was supposed to last for years, and it comes out that in 3 years it may no longer be usable. In general, if I had known that QD-OLEDs are so fragile I would not have opted for it. I will say more, I also have an OLED TV and the quality of QD-OLED is a rapturous few percent advantage in terms of color. OLED colors continue to be beautiful and saturated. In general, it's not worth getting wrapped up in this experimental technology.

I dont know how people are getting their glossy screens messed up. I use clean microfiber to clean my qd oled samsung G9 49". I had it over a year and not a single scratch looked under the spotlight. Also testing dead pixels and burns ins checks every few weeks. Nothing absolutely nothing so far not even a hint of that. Been gaming every day and watching videos average 6-10 hours.

I had the MSI OLED, cleaned it once got scratched, sent it back got the Samsung 32 oled monitor has a Matt qd-oled but cleaned it few times now not a single mark, it’s a compromise on image clarity but getting a far better experience and longevity, then having a scratched screen after a few days.

What I never hear commented on is what constitutes a "bright" room. Are we talking about a moonroof in Alaska bright, or a standard 60w/800 lumens overhead light?. It seems like anthing above a candle is considered too bright for a QD.

Sadly this is an issue with nearly all monitors. Why we make all monitors with the softest of plastics, I will never understand. I still have two matte displays and I try to avoid cleaning them and just use a brush to wipe dust off, because any time you actually try, you'll leave marks.

all oled's have some drawbacks/quirks, buy it is the benefits are worth it for you. i had qdoled and woled, matte and glossy. they all cost a lot so they are not a good value product, it is a luxury thing if you have money to spend.

If you are looking to get any OLED monitor with high refresh rates, I would suggest getting only the Philips Evnia (I have the Alienware one right now and Evnia is much better). Otherwise wait a year or so for the new panels with the magenta backing to be less apparent (because this sucks a$$).

I have both Msi qd and lgs 32gs95 here now.... And i dont see alot of "better colors" on the qd-oled 😢 I dont get it why so much peopels say qd colors are better, its nearly the same.... also its not washed out bc of the matte finish. The black on the qd-oled is bad, even with low ambilight. Its only a true black in a completely dark room. And u lose alot of fine detail, bc of the reflection and purple color. Only the hdr brightness seems a bit better on the qd-oled, with the same ingame brightness settings, so i have to turn the woled higher.

yeah i noticed that on mine too, after 20 years and dozens of monitors i know cleaning them must be done with the softest and cleanest microfiber cloth. (if you are using detergent or softener with color or perfume to wash the cloth, it is not clean!) But still the qd-oled has some scratches, unfortunately nothing we can do about it, good thing they dont last very long anyways 😥

I have 2 different QDOLED monitors now and the surface of them is a DISASTER need special monitor oled cleaner plus microfiber cloth , ALL other screens including WOLED isopropyl alcohol is the best but DO NOT use isopropyl on QD OLED !

had a terrible experience with qd oled , text fringing migraines and eye strain . On top of that the image quality improvement wasn't that great especially for the extra 400$ price . Going back to ips was a total relief. Only worth for 55''+ inches tv you will notice a huge difference there

Recently bought a Samsung 32 odyssey g80sd for half the price here in Sweden. A computer retail store opened up a new shop and had some very nice discounts. (9000 kr, roughly 700 $). But my issue with it isn´t cleaning. A proper micro fiber cloth and some monitor spray solves that. No my issue is more of the SDR brightness or the lack of it. It´s quite dim. The HDR once calibrated is good but the SDR is lacking.

The S95D has 350 Nits at 100% window size, the G80SD only has 250 nits. I suspect the S95D has a better passive cooling to get 350 nits of brightness. Though in the evening I dont mind the 250 nits of the G80SD, i find IT bright enough

It's not an OCD thing. It's very noticeable when watching movies with a lot of black. I have the Alienware monitor from this video, and comparing it with Evnia the difference is night and day, Evnia being the much better one. I never had to decide whether to watch movies during the day with the Evnia but with the Alienware, I just can't do anything requiring black blacks during the day. Had to return the Evnia because I moved.

You're losing out on picture quality and potentially ruining the heat dissipation of your monitor. Make sure it's ok to leave that on.... my specific model of qd oled (msi271qpx) has issues when you don't take that stuff off. Overheating and burn-in ad a result. Be careful.

I really hate that coating on my S24u. It does do a great job of diffusing a light source, but it has horrible off angle viewing (very dim), and it's skews colors when even slightly off angle (desaturates the image).

These OLEDs are so good in somany ways... except brightness. They're getting better, but still need more sustained brightness. I saw the iPad tandem oled display and that totally satisfied me. So far, no OLED TV or monitor is there yet. 1000 nits is not even close to eye searing. And being dark adapted is not the same visual exeperience. Human vision is best in daylight. We don't have nocturnal vision. We don't have reflectors behind our retinas, and we're trichromats. I think 4000 nits would be even better, but for energy consumption purposes 1000 nits sustained 100% screen that the iPad can do is enough, and I don't even need its 1600 nit peak ability. I'd put it in reference mode and enjoy the consistent contrast and brightness. 230 nits on current OLED tvs is not something I'm going to spend money on, even for dark room viewing. 600 nits might be close enough and would tempt me. I really want all that OLED goodness, so I'm hoping the iPad display represents the future.

I have never preferred. Anti-glare matte coateds I've always liked glossy and for almost 2 years I've been using a LG 42-in C2 TV. That's my gaming computer monitor. I wish LG would also come out with some glossy monitors and OLED. I want the 39 or 40 in 21x9 with glossy coating

I have the Alienware monitor that you are showing right now with me, but I had the Philips Evnia before (which I returned because I had to move out). But I can say hands down the Evnia had a MUCH lesser magenta/purple tinting issue when in broad daylight. I would get the Evnia anyday over the Alienware, but I couldn't buy it again once I moved. That non-black background in day light sucks a$$. Literally cannot watch movies during the day. Even at night with lights on it is still visible. So, I have to turn off all the lights to then enjoy movies.

You forgot the dominant blue light energy emitting through the panel, the low light quality (CRI) giving harsh and sterile cartoony colours, and of course the subpixel layout making text and finer details a mess. Also the motion still isn't up to plasma standards let alone CRT 🤭

Ive had a qd oled alienware for 6 months. No issues. Keep your nasty hands off the screens and when you have to sneeze look to your side. This alone will keep the need to clean it way down. And when you do need to clean lt. Clean it properly and you shouldn't have any issues.

just my opinion here, if you are using paper towels to clean the glossy surface, huge mistake. made from wood fibers, will quickly ruin that glossy surface. microfiber, as suggested in the video, is the way to go.

The magenta tint is such a nothing burger. Its not visible when the monitor is in use, and who cares if it has a purple tint when switched off. I dunno. In terms of cleaning. I'm trying to keep the peel-off film that came with the monitor on the screen for as long as possible! I only just recently got mine 2 weeks ago.

Lol. I always get a kick out of anyone in any comments saying anything like "Well I do X and I don't have an issue at all". Ya'll remind me of the one person who comments in a troubleshooting thread saying you're not having any problem. These coatings ARE exceptionally hard to clean because they're innately made of a more fragile material. I just made a thread losing my shit about this problem and when people started posting all the links to manufacturers instruction for the SAME type of panel across their monitors, none of them were consistent. This goes to show that not even manufacturers are 100% aware on how to clean these. Microfiber + Distilled water + circular movement is the copy/paste method a lot of people suggest, but it just doesn't work for me. I have a completely brand new pack of microfibers with only a cut in the package to pull out new towels. Looks like absolute trash. These coatings are so sensitive, that the pressure from my hand stopping the circular wiping pattern will leave a slight pattern of the moist microfiber itself on the monitor - not to mention all the streaking. I then need to take a dry microfiber to get rid of streaks. Shit takes like 7 minutes, and it's completely aids. I've overly sensitive to shit occluding my vision though. I'm the same way with my glasses. They're spotless. The ONLY thing that has worked for me is 2:1 distilled water to 90% alcohol (70% dilution ratio) and wiping in STRAIGHT lines edge to edge and off the monitor. Ironic considering everyone says not to use alcohol which, yes, I'd recommend not using. However, in my case, its the only method that removes streaks. As long as alcohol doesn't sit in one spot and dry out (similar to hard water etching a stainless steel pan), then it won't damage the coating.

Honestly I have had no issues cleaning it. All I do is breathe my hot breath on it then wipe with a micro fiber. It has worked well for 8 months now.

solution... NEVER touch the screen.. Never wipe the screen.. ONLY use a dry swifter duster and just lightly brush it over to get the dust... and you'll keep the screen like new

The asus xg27acdng is the best 1440p qd oled and it works perfect in a bright room and I don't notice the magenta tint at all

Then check your eyes. This isn’t really a subjective topic. The magenta issue is extremely annoying and noticeable in bright rooms and this is coming from a PG32UCDM user.

On that i agree with you mostly because of reliability although now they rolled out gen 3 panels if i am not mistaken which claim the same. QD-OLED colours are way better but the LG ones are a blast as well. Finally LG doesn't roll up firmwares that ruin your monitor or tv for that matter!

@leonidasdestoleo2761 I don't know about gen 3, it's hard for your average consumer to figure out what exactly is in a tv. At least in my place in the world, for oled you've got the option of Sony, LG or Samsung. I won't touch Samsung till they support chromecast. Sony are way overpriced (as are Samsung). Unless money means nothing I tend to think LG is it.

FINALLY someone talks about this! 100% a HUGE issue. I have owned 2 QD OLED monitors and 1 QD OLED TV and they are literally impossible to clean even if you are freakishly careful. I returned my ASUS QD OLED just because of this issue. Yes matte sucks but at least it is durable. QD OLED screen simply do not use glass on the front because of the nature of QD OLED, I’ve read it could cause “color impurities” so they opt not to protect them. I’m staying away from QD just because of this. I don’t care what anyone says, after buying 3 of them and all getting scratched and blemishes when cleaning very carefully with a new microfiber cloth, I’m done. LG G3 83 inch I have is a tank because it has GLASS.

its pretty easy to clean..just use baby wet wipes and wipe it across the screen , and then use a dry tissue and gently wipe it dry . it will look sleek and clean

think ill save up for asus rog swift pro pg248qp TNNNN Now i use the Asus Tuf vg258qm 280hz TN i actually really like these TN panels in Vivid mode. Also have a Alienware 2720hfs 240 ips panel. With VSR this screen looks amazing to but its just not as fast in Online fps titles. I guess in games like call of duty internet is more important than your screen haha. laggie game. might have to fix a new router. haha desktop is on cable but anytime i go on laptop wifi massive lagggggg.

displays guys solution to the problem: Invent some kind of coating, that makes it more resistant to scratches and helps with the magenta issue.... brother they already did, its called matt. You like glossy, it looks better, i agree. But these are the tradeoffs, if their was a new coating that magically fixed all these issues and didnt impact image quality at all, matt wouldnt exist lol.

This sounds like less of an issue with the monitor, and more with the cleaning methods people are using. (aside from shipping/production fat fingers) I have a glossy monitor from 2016 and it is still flawless. Proper electronic-safe glass cleaner, a dedicated microfiber cloth for the cleaning, and a high quality waffle weave microfiber cloth for the final drying/polish. That is my method. Twice a month since 2016 and still flawless. And yes I am looking to replace the monitor with superior tech, but my use case would burn-in and murder an OLED in short order.
