Looks great. I too like a Mannlicher style stock. Way back in the '70's I bought a S & W .32 long revolver, and it was a very accurate gun. It was light and easy to carry. I'd take it out to shoot in the countryside and it was a lot more accurate than any other revolver I've had before or since. I wish I'd have kept it. I traded it for a Luger and that was promptly stolen.

Also I realise how much noise is mechanical and additional to powder ignition; spring rattle, mag rattle, springs striking their end plates, hammer strike, trigger release. This is especially noticeable with air rifles

Theodore Roosevelt chose 32 Colt New Police for use when he was New York City Police Commissioner. 32 Colt New Police is the same cartridge case as the 32 S&W Long. It just uses a different bullet. I have a Harrington and Richardson model 732 in 32 S&W Long. As I understand it, these guns were once popular with security guards who had to supply their own equipment since the gun was cheaper than the equivalent Colt or S&W.

I built one in 2010, when you just could not get .22lr in oregon where I was at. I called my .32 long rifle my .22 maximum, lol. Figured I could load it to .22lr levels, but it was reloadable unlike. 22lr. Can't remember what load i used but it was just a little sip of of powder, and I used cast bullets out of scrounge wheel weights I got when I went running. I have a little top break revolver in .32 long I like a lot too. Payed like $50 cause it had a busted mainspring. I made a replacement flat spring, like original, with the thought I'd convert it to coil spring if it ever broke, but it hasn't yet. Our metallurgy has come a long way in 150 years.

Rook rifles are interesting. I have two of them in 38 long Colt. One is an English made break action Tranter. The other is an American made Ballard. These things got their start when Colt percussion revolvers were converted to take rim-fire and center-fire cartridges. So, you had 32,36 and 44 to choose from. There were others of course but Colt had a factory in London so cartridges for his guns were very popular in Rabbit and Rook rifles. Out of a rifle barrel one could shoot pesky rabbits and crows in the garden and not disturb the neighbors. The 32 is probably the best of them. Ammo and brass is still available as are bullet molds of several designs and plenty of loading data. The 36 is actually .380 and is an odd size. Eras Gone makes a mold for percussion revolvers that will work. Trimmed 38 Special cases will fit. The originals were loaded with black powder and may be weak designs. So Pyrodex or 777 should be considered if black powder is unavailable. Thanks for the video

.32 S&W long is still used by some shooters in Bullseye shooting, though it has been largely replaced by the .38 Special for fans of revolvers. It is also used by shooters as a lower powered cartridge for use in the .32 Magnum revolvers. I handload and cast bullets for it. My wife uses it in her S&W Model 332 AirLite Ti revolver.
@allanedwards53492 күн бұрын
Still widely used in Europe for precision pistol shooting - .32 S&WL with a 98gn hollow based wadcutter with a very light charge of Bullseye is a very standard load used in Pardini, Walther, FAS etc. semi-auto target pistols.
@garyK.45ACP2 күн бұрын
@@allanedwards5349 That is basically the load I assemble for my wife, but using a button nose, solid base 98 gr. wadcutter and just a wisp of Bullseye powder. HB wadcutters are kind of a pain to cast. But yes, Bullseye shooters like the HB wadcutter.

Man I love this rifle! The side-lever action and the 'Mannlicher' forearm give it a classic look. I've always wondered what the 32 S&W Long would do in a longer barrel and it's respectable. Do try some of the magnum loads over the chrono; I imagine they'd do OK for deer with a well-placed shot. The 32 Long is an easy-to-load cartridge, economical and not picky to reload while delivering very good accuracy. Too bad it doesn't have a perfect barrel but it might do OK as-is. Trivia tidbit: None other than Teddy Roosevelt recommended the 32 S&W Long for the NYC Police way back when over the 38's because it was much easier to shoot accurately, and back then it was considered powerful enough for the job but they didn't take his advice and adopted the 38 Special instead.
@frankbrowning3282 күн бұрын
Cool idea and project! I'd bet a factory 32 S&W (Not the longer more powerful 32 S&W Long) would be even more quiet than a HV 22 short. That load may be very close in report to something like a 9mm subsonic shot through a suppressor

A very interesting project and useful given the insane hurdles in the US to shooters who want rifle suppressors to reduce noise. This can be taken a step further by re-loaders using subsonic 38 Special and 44 Special loadings in single shot rifles. Thanks for the video !

So interesting and great presentation/voice. It's a pity video is blurred in workshop. Being a bit clueless I guess the silence comes from barrel length/lower velocity. But 32 long is very hard to find. I am wondering if 380 could achieve the same silence with easier to find supplies. Visually and weight-wise the scope looks wrong. perhaps one those small WW2 type scopes or a solar red dot?
