Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. I do know what you say about squirrels and raccoons and how terribly destructive they are. Have had to deal with them also. The smelly mess the leave and the destruction is bad bad and expensive to repair usually. Dougo looks like they really did a number on your dryers. Do not think you are too happy about it and do understand. Hang in there. I have heard that putting moth balls in those areas helps keep them away. Just a caring suggestion. I believe dougo had the struggle bus out and working about the dryer damage. Hang in there. Wonderful to see mom in the combine and of course Toby also. Having mom with you is a keepsake moment!!!!! Special times. Glad Toby likes riding in the combine. Super having him with you!!!!! Helps with memories of your loved one. Switching heads over to corn takes some time I am sure. I know you will be showing us the process. Appreciate that Chet. Leaving the hat behind when up on the catwalks is probably a good thing so the wind does not get it. Understand. Chet appreciate the way you unwind Dougo when he gets on edge with things like the dryer damage. You are a great son!!!!!! Guess that is it for now. You all take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. The Larsons are a wonderful team in the farming community!!!!! Thanks. The Iowa farm boy from years ago.

Sure, an electric fence should put the brakes on the raccoon problem but is there a way to develop a strategy to move the raccoons over to the pond where the ducks feed on your Beans in hopes that the raccoons feed on the ducks? Might need to develop feed that both the raccoons, ducks and squirrels will enjoy.

Hat tip to you and your family - it just goes to show you that there is always something brewing on a farm! I lived on a small non-working farm that rented out land to a local farmer (one of my classmates from eons ago). The last year he planted soybeans and between the deer, turkeys, turkey vultures, ospreys, groundhogs, muskrats, bunnies, horses and more he got one of the lowest yields of any of his auxiliary fields. You could just look at the 'crop' and say that without any farmer knowledge. My parents sold it this year, but have many good memories of the 50 years on the property. We had an old neighbor (70+) that lived across the train tracks (CNWSTP&P) on a section of land. His family abandoned him many years ago, but he still farmed and used our land several times for miscellaneous crops. Tobacco was king years ago and most often used as the only cash crop for the year. My neighbor did everything himself and had ancient equipment - plus raised Hogs, chickens, ducks, lambs, black angus. He picked up the mail from our driveway as his had no mailbox. One day he asked if I wanted some ducks and I said yes (without my parents intervention). He handed me an old milk barrel from his very rusty Pontiac Catalina. I put it in the barn and cleaned out the 'chicken coop part' added a little cut-down pool in the ground and the milk barrel had 52 ducklings and one hen. My parents were mad. HAHA. Over the years he gave us three more hens and we had mad ducks every year. I took care of them, fed them, cleaned out their habitat (which had by now grown to 6 rooms in the barn, plus an outdoor area for night only. During the day we let them wander everywhere. I slaughtered them, cleaned them and we eventually grew field corn to feed them. The neighbor never allowed me to ride on the tractor during planting or harvest because I was a church organist and he didn't want to be responsible for my 'hands and feet' - but my sister did get to do some tractor work. Those days are long gone. Farmer sold his land to a local semi-trailer company which built a massive plant over the entire section. Our barn had to be burned down 30 years ago because it had crumbled into a ruin and the insurance company would no longer insure us unless we destroyed it. It is very interesting watching you and your family and friends battle it out on the fields of grain!

Hope you're well into the corn now... that dryer, wow. critters. Recall the quote from Sen. Simpson at GHWB funeral, "“Humor is the universal solvent against the abrasive elements of life,” reminding the crowd assembled at the National Cathedral that one of the most important qualities of the late president was his ability to laugh - especially at himself. That quote and the ‘Those who travel the high road of humility in Washington, D.C. are not bothered by heavy traffic.’ Humility can take you through a lot of challenges, if you stay in a teachable mind...

I've posted this before on probably a different Channel that has the same problem with rodents eating wires! I had to make two trips from Beach North Dakota to Bloomington Minnesota for consultation and then a week later surgery to reinstall a new cornea transplant from a ten year earlier cataract surgery! Seems the warranty runs out before the 10 years is up. Don't know how long I'll be paying for that one. Thank God the rodent problem happened on the consultation trip I only had to drive from Bloomington to Fargo in 83 degree weather with the windows down. It seems in recent years new green developments have led to a new coating for the red and black copper wires so they do not dry out and get brittle and break from vibration. Before they used to be saturated with a silicone petroleum jelly based emulsifier. The little hop bunny in my yard , that started the problem took a steal BB behind the ears. I thought he was trying to dig a hole in the crushed gravel part of the driveway under the car. But was actually pushing up between the engine and that plastic pan. Because he could smell the aroma of what all rodents are drawn to, toasted soybean oil. Seems that's what the manufacturers of wiring harnesses have went to. A squirrel at the motel where I stayed in Minneapolis finish the job and took 6 in of wire from the hard plastic armor to the plug-in on the AC compressor. When I told my daughter about it she says heck they had people in Northern Iowa lose their whole exposed wiring harness to rabbits, plastic armor and all. Greedy corporate bottom-line got to love it. BTW car warranties also don't cover rodent damage only $193! Small in comparison to what the cost will end up being for the Larsons!!!! I hear the rodents in Minnesota carry their own water supply with now, so they don't have to leave the destination food feast?

Try putting MOTH BALLs inside the dryer. Racoons hate the smell of them. Long time ago we had a racoon problem in a crawl space and by spreading Moth Balls in made them find another place to live or hide

You can get a trail camera with cellular access and use it to see when they're around, and set it to Text notifiy. Professional exterminators use them for rodent problems.

I eliminate about 20 to 30 Raccoons from my rural backyard a year. They make good midnight thermal sniper practice. They can't see me, but I can see them.
