I'm 62 and started menopause at 38. I know, certainly didn't win the lottery there. My skin has changed considerably over the intervening years, mostly becoming dry and dehydrated. I've found that using a Hyaluronic moisturizer helps plump it up a lot so I use Dr. Brandt's and the Ordinary one. Getting older isn't fun and I constantly tell my daughter she needs a good skin regimen now and wear your sunscreen!

Thank you Dr Dray for demystifying the topic of dry skin. As a esthetician I now have the verbiage to explain to my clients that suffer from dry skin. I’m very careful though not to try to appear that I know more than a dermatologist. I try to keep the dialogue simple so they will understand instead of giving them a lot of bio-babble. lol😂 Thank you so much!

Being in the Pacific region (Australia) I have heard of kava, but have never seen or consumed it! 🤪 I didn't know about the dry skin side effect though. I don't have dry skin, but (as usual) watched today anyway, as I am still curious & interested to learn... even if it doesn't affect me directly. Btw, I think I'll stick with my coffee! 👱‍♀️❤☕

My new dry skin care routine is: PM: Layering a hydrating serum -> Aveno Oat Gel Moisturizer -> Tretinoin -> Vanicream Skin Cream; AM: Hydrating essence -> Hydrating serum -> Vanicream Face Cream -> Moisturizing SPF. Sometimes I will add some dabs or a thin layer of dimethicone or Vaseline to the very dry areas. So far my dry skin has completely gone down since adopting this routine. I have fair, sensitive skin.

@@MsErika1226 yes. Try fractionated coconut oil and aloe. Just that. For 28 days which is the cycle for skin renewal. Wash face with something light like hydration cera ve. No soap etc. Then if you want you can use witch hazel as a toner - Thayers makes a rose flavoured but no alcohol one. So: 1. Face wash (simple cerave) 2. Toner (witch hazel) 3. Pure coconut oil mixed with aloe Vera Aloe comes in goopy gel kind of style. Those are pathetic. Try the one by Seven Minerals, which is like real aloe from a leaf.

HRT, limiting long baths & hot showers, washing with cleansing oils, layering humectants on damp skin with an occlusive layer, plus once a week “body masking” with an AHA / Retinol lotion has TRANSFORMED my skin. I just don’t know what to do coz I also use thick serums but nothing seems to work to prevent this drying like I FEEL that my skin is dry and cracked. If it difficult for you to access a dermatologist, as least consult your regular doctor, or if this is not possible, even a pharmacist. I'm sure your skin is very beautiful the way it is without having the need to lighten it. Skin lighteners can be very tricky on darker skin tones in particular, and can have the opposite effect if not used correctly under medical care, so please be careful. Also consult a medical practitioner to advise you on a moisturising sunscreen that would be suitable for you to wear every day. 👱‍♀️❤

Instead of buying the aerosol evian water or the LRP or Avene, I have always had a small spray bottle or mister on my vanity and I refill it with Evian bottled water I keep in the fridge. I travel with my sprayer as well. At least this way after you wash face with tap water, you can spray it all off your face with Evian. Hope that helps! Ps- you can buy cute spray misters on Amazon to keep on your vanity; they are also good for spraying hair prior to blow drying if you wait too long and find hair too dry for blowout.

As paradoxal as it may sound, I think that nobody can understand what is living with dry skin better than a person who lives with an excess of oil (scalp, face, body). We are just the two sides of the same coin called Sisifus. We both are told nonsense non scientific unsolicited bullsh*t, we seem to be "responsible" and "fixing it is in our hands", at certain point we' all have felt embarrassed-ashamed-nasty. Maybe those who suffer from hyperhydrosis can feel us too. #teamfryer 🫂 #teamsahara. Thanks for adressing it, Miss DD. I've heard of Kava! I've never used it personally, but I work at a health food store in the US and we sell it. We sell it in tinctures, capsules, loose powder, and root pieces. To my knowledge, it's considered a dietary supplement in the US and people use it to help manage anxiety and stress. The supplement packages have warning labels that warn about liver function and combining it with alcohol. I believe it processes through the liver, like alcohol, and can mimic the effects of alcohol. Not sure if that helps, but it's definitely something we sell and people really buy it.

The best is to take her to a doctor. First general practitioner and if it is necessary to a dermatologist. They are the professionals who can tell you what to do.

Yes, your daughter needs to be diagnosed and treated first..only then your medical practitioner will be able to advise you both on how to prevent the dry skin symptom from returning. It is better to do this rather than play a hit or miss guessing game yourselves. 👱‍♀️❤

I’m 69, have a laundry list of toxin-based illnesses including having had mold toxicity, autoimmune diseases including Sjogren’s, and Lyme. My skin is flakey, but it doesn’t look like it, but it leaves “skin dust” inside my black clothes and pajamas. I also go to the bathroom constantly because of bladder problems (diagnosed with IC), so I may be dehydrated. I know I have too many issues for you to answer, but is there a product I can use besides fractionated coconut oil? I like to take baths to detox with Epsom salts. Would this make it worse, or should I shower quickly? I need to protect my entire body from infections. I saw a product made by Zach Bush that you spray on and it protects your skin!

As for the hard/soft water, in my city, it's the softest water in my country. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it makes cleansers too effective if it makes sense. My skin is super dry when I'm home, and it's waaay better when I'm at sister's or friend's, where water isn't too soft or too hard. I don't know, I try to use as little of the cleanser as possible, use shea, petrolatum on top of my moisturizer, and yet, 2-3 weeks after I come back home, my cheeks and temples are like sand paper...

I was thinking last night about why my skin looks really dry. I was a hospice nurse and I was taking care of a man who had cancer. I was washing him down and his hand/arm rubbed the bar on the bed and his skin just peeled right off. I freaked out but they said it was normal because he's dying.

Thank you for covering this subject although I am still confused. My skin is prone to white/black heads and/or acne. Oh boy, didn't I have a time of my life with that in my teens 😆😅 I would consider my skin type as combination however I keep having dry patches of skin in the T zone area (nose, cheeks and under my mouth - sides ) even though I find these places greasy in the morning, making me think I might have combination to dry skin type. Is this even possible? Thank you for your input.

So fascinating wow really wow so many root causes and multiple factors can disrupt our skin barrier and of course in different kind of level in each area of our body, as you said our eyelids are more delicate than the skin in our back. So first and foremost we as individuals must search and find alongside with our doctors the main root cause of our problem and then proceed with extreme caution with the right therapy/treatment and then the maintenance of what the treatment gave to us (which is the the no longer appearance of the main cause). Main Root Causes and Factors Heat. Central heating, wood-burning stoves, space heaters and fireplaces all reduce humidity. Environment. Living in cold, windy conditions or low-humidity climates, pollution. Too much bathing or scrubbing. Taking long, hot showers or baths or scrubbing your skin too much can dry your skin. Bathing more than once a day can remove the natural oils from your skin too. Harsh soaps and detergents. Many popular soaps, detergents and shampoos strip moisture from your skin because they are formulated to remove oil. Other skin conditions. People with skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) or psoriasis are more likely to have dry skin. Medical treatments. Some people develop dry, thick skin after undergoing treatment for cancer, receiving dialysis or taking certain medications. Aging. As people age, the skin thins and produces less of the oils needed for the skin to retain water. Skin as a matter of fact is the most essential and yet the most exposed organ of our body so like Rue Mcclanahan (Blanche Devero) once said in the so called famous American series we must and say must because we ought this to ourselves, that we must treat our body like a temple nothing more nothing less. Thank you doctor once again 😍🙏.

@dylanquinn7 Жыл бұрын
@@21972012145525 Yeah it's always daunting to hear that things will get worse, especially as a woman since everything says menopause just dries everything out and i'm already so dry! I initially tested positive for autoimmune with an ANA test and then my eye dr ordered for sjogren's SSA and SSB bloodwork and I came back significantly high for SSA (most common but you can have sjogrens and test positive for both or neither). They can also test via a lip biopsy. I'm lucky I don't have dry mouth (yet) so i don't know if having that would impact lip biopsy or not. I hope you don't have it! Downside to autoimmune is there doesn't seem to be much known or real treatments for them, especially Sjogrens (RA seems to be the most researched in the autoimmune world).
