I just found your channel, Miche. Thank you for your content. I'm looking forward to Part 2 of the real cause of your slow metabolism. About 10 years ago I remember hearing and/or reading about how over use of antibiotics is linked to obesity (among other diseases, i.e., asthma and juvenile diabetes) in children. I did a general search, "cause of weight gain is antibiotics in food supply,” and found a link to the NIH National Library of Medicine that provided an abstract dated 05.04.2021. I used to listen to NPR so I went there and found a Fresh Air interview (Modern Medicine May Not Be Doing Your Microbiome Any Favors) dated 04.14.2014. I also remember hearing an interview about how overuse of antibiotics could be linked to precocious puberty. I found that interview (How Girls Are Developing Earlier In An Age Of 'New Puberty') dated 12.02.2014 of the authors of a book, The New Puberty. I don’t mean to take you down unrelated or unfocused rabbit holes. But perhaps this info could be fodder for future KZbin content--if you think your followers are interested.

A) what about the pesticides that are allowed in organic production? B) organic produce is mostly grown in soil fertilized by the manure from CAFOs wherein animals are eating heavily pesticided crops. how much of these pesticides make it into the manure, and how much are "organic" plants accumulating through root uptake?

Good questions--Part 2 will go over possible solutions to reduce pesticide levels (including 10 interventions that aren't about eating organic), and studies on the effectiveness of eating organic.

Always enlightening and eye opening. Thank you for your continuous digging and reporting to us! You are dispelling pervasive myths regarding nutrition and physical health like none other. One thing you might consider doing is leaving the printed references on the screen a bit longer, or perhaps just referencing them in the links below. They go by faster than my best skimming! Again thank you for your scientifically proven research and reporting. Love the channel!

Hi Miche. From my understanding, the fat-soluble pesticides bioaccumulate in animal fat (animals fed lots of GMO corn) and so are a major source of pesticides. But plants are lower on the food chain. So, theoretically if one were to maintain a lean body and eat mostly plants, wouldn't they have the least pesticides in their body.

Also, I think iodine might be related to this issue of metabolism. I would like to hear your scientific view / review (extensive) of the book The Iodine Crisis by Lynne Farrow.

Wow! This is a great video. In theory, if you were constantly detoxing and supporting your liver with natural remedies like milk thistle, celery juice and lemon water, do you think this would mitigate some of the effects from pesticides?

That's new to me and interesting. I'm going to take a guess that slower rates of fat loss will allow the body to process the pesticide chemicals more efficiently so maybe less effect on the metabolism. I've always heard that slower weight loss is better so that works out good.

Thanks for all the time you put into this. I can relate since I was exposed to a paint compound group for three hours. I went from 195 to 332 in only one year because of the exposure. It took ten years for it to even partially clear my system and I did drop 100 pounds in one year but can't get below the 220 pounds even now. I just saw you legume vid and I'm going to try it. Problem will be pestcides again. Ugh. Thanks.

I am under the impression from some sources that a slower metabolism (not pesticide-induced, of course) will equate to a longer life (sometimes known as the "rate of living" theory). I read that caloric restriction can slow down metabolism, and I am ok with eating smaller portions if it results in a slower metabolism which then results in a longer life. Thoughts?

Is there anything out there that suggests this effect on metabolism goes away if weight loss is maintained long enough? Does the body eventually shed some of the pesticides released into the blood during weight loss to the point that the metabolism speeds up again?

Great content on pesticides being released from stored fat. You should do a followup video on previous eaten Seed Oils (and other PUFA) that are released during fat release. Even if PUFA is eliminated from current consumption, the long PUFA half-life causes inflammation and metabolic dysfunction for years.

Thank you! That's interesting--do you have any study cites for that by any chance? Typically PUFAs predict good or neutral health effects, at least from most seed oils.

Given that most people don't eat enough fiber, fruit and vegetables, and meat consumption is on the rise, could there be a bio magnification aspect here? I know first hand farmers don't wash the corn and hay before feeding the pigs, cattle and chickens. And live stock feed is made from heavily sprayed vegetation (corn, soy, and alfalfa - hay).

Do the important findings reported in this video apply only to some organochlorate pesticides or all organochlorate pesticides ? Or do they apply to some organophosphate pesticides or all organophosphate pesticides ? Or both ? Or, do they apply to some pesticides, not necessarily belonging to the two aforementioned chemical families ? Or, finally, do they apply to any pesticide whatever chimical family ? It is hard for me to follow what adverse effect is linked to which compound ... because the term pesticide correspond to a wide category of compounds (including colza oil or vinegar).

From contrarian Ray Peat, a similar hypothesis regarding free fatty acids lower thyroid due to the peroxidation of PUFAs by iron. How much does the ratio of saturated fat and PUFA in a person confer pesticide storage? Bruce Ames had an insight into organic food containing more pesticides because of natural selection verses GMOs which can employ harmless pesticides. Thoughts?

Wondering if the level of pesticides stays high after we've regained the weight we loss? Pretty depressing feeling like it's partly out of our control and it's frustrating how we can lose and then gain so much back even when we're eating WFPBNO. :-(
@MichePhD
@MichePhD Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s a good question. I imagine it would largely get reabsorbed into the regained fat at least. And I understand-I was there for ages before I really got the hang of intuitive eating. I had to let go of caring about my weight, and now I’m leaner than I ever managed while trying to lose.

What you are observing is a correlation of release of pesticide residues when fat breaks down, similar to what might happen with DDT. Not all pesticides bio-accumulate like DDT. All pesticides do not behave the same in the body. The hypothesis that such pesticides cause this slower metabolism is a hypothesis, a conjecture. It's popular to bash pesticides and blame them when something more complicated might be going on.

Interesting video! Won't the body detox and get rid of the pesticides in the bloodstream in time. I'm thinking of the liver and kidneys? I mean, I can't believe that the pesticides stay in your bloodstream indefinitely.
@MichePhD
@MichePhD Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And no, for many pesticides, our liver and kidneys are not able to get rid of them. That’s precisely why they’re such an issue. Studies have found that several pesticides, like DDT, stick around in our bodies at least for decades. They accumulate in animals too, for similar reasons.

People are snacking and over eating like crazy, in the past people didn't. I don't buy that the obesity pandemic is because of chemicals. This is my favorite video of yours, because I lived through the 1973 PBB contamination incident in Michigan when flame retardant chemicals were mixed with animal feed (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polybrominated_biphenyl#Michigan_PBB_contamination_incident). When I got to college biology the prof said raise your hand if you grew up in Michigan. Most of us raised our hands. He said keep your hand up if you're a woman. Then he said "DO NOT breast feed" or you will pass on the PBB to your children because its half life is crazy long like a million years. Ever since then I have been intrigued by humans and pesticides. Now I work in Michigan government and we print Health Dept and Cooperative Extension brochures telling women they must breast feed because of the benefits of breast feeding to the infants, and all these health bulletins originate at the federal level and trickle down to the counties. I keep wondering, why isn't anyone warning people anymore about PBB?
