The prospect of owning a Tesla fills many of us with excitement, but the price point can seem a little high when compared to a similar combustion engine car. Have you ever wondered what the real cost is to Tesla ownership? We were wondering if the claims to earn your money back had any substance, so we set out to explore all the costs involved in owning a Tesla when compared to a conventional car.

"Is there anything Tesla can't do" Well, let's talk about build quality or just the materials used compared to a Renault or something, let aside the "premium" brands xD. I'm not being mean or anything but this video is just a Tesla ad and not really appropriate for people that are looking for real information about numbers and good comparisons between cars... Depreciation happens less in a tesla as the car actually gets value with each update, ie: full self driving beta etc.
@ymcpa73
@ymcpa73 3 жыл бұрын
@@balneetsraon5478 Their examples didn't include the $10k Full self driving option. The other updates are usually fairly minor. There were a couple that increased acceleration and range. I don't think those lowered depreciation by much. Tesla do have good resale because electric motors last longer than ICE engines. There is still wear on the interior, suspension, electrical components, etc. The battery degradation will also vary depending on charging habits. There is also the issue of Tesla dropping the price of new models. This will obviously cause depreciation on the used cars since no one will pay near new prices when they can get a full warranty, pristine interior and exterior, and possibly better hardware, especially newer batteries with longer range.

Questions: I love the Wing Gull doors. Are those models getting the new 1Million Mile batteries? If I have a charging setup at my home and I want to visit my Mom at about ~200 miles away, how could I charge my care at her house without her having the same setup? Do I get a regular 110 (US) outlet to Tesla Charging input along with this car? Or any other model? (3 perhaps?) I couldn't afford to put a solar roof on her house. Not to mention the PowerWall(s) required. Her home still uses a truck that brings oil to dump in her basement tank. UGH! I've watched to many of these videos but I don't see the every day answers. I don't want to stop on the NJ Turnpike for 3 hours of recharge to turn my visit into more time spend on the road recharging than actual family time together. Address this please!!! I think its and wealthy and some Upper Middle class helping to drive the rest of us to the full-green solution we all desire. For all the videos I watch here, non make is affordable for me yet. So frustrating. Maybe when we ditch the current Administration we'll start supporting cheaper alternative again? Hard to say when our next guy is an ultra-conservative.

I just bought a nearly BMW X3 after looking at elec cars specifically Tesla and Polestar. My car is 3 months old and less than 3K miles and I saved nearly £9k over the list price and got a 3 year maint plan thrown in. Discounted the Model 3 due to just not having a big load space due to not being a hatchback. The model Y is now available but just too expensive, and to date have never been able to get a test drive or a look at a Polestar because I live in the West Country. I just gradually came to the conclusion that the UK isnt really ready for EV's yet. Also another thing that is not considered here is they is no tangible used market for decent EV's yet so you are forced to buy new. To my mind right now nice EV's are still over priced and pitched as premium models. I decided to wait a few years so I wouldnt be stung as an early adopter. I also think tech will improve greatly also. No mention of some of Tesla's iffy build quality and the fact that Tesla charging is no longer free across the board as far as I'm aware in the UK plus my insurance was almost 80% more than my BMW. Slick video with some convenient omissions for ownership in UK !

I completely agree with your assessment of the Tesla as a comparative cost savings vehicle along with "saving the planet" from green house gases! My challenge is the Honda clarity Fuel Cell. My lease costs are much lower than Tesla along with free fuel (Hydrogen) for the first $15,000 (US) worth of Hydrogen. By then my lease will be over (3 years and 60K miles) and with the tax credits and the California State Rebate I am money ahead along with milage deduction for business miles. The biggest advantage to Tesla is its cool and totally computer run and the updates are continually renewing the vehicle performance. Downside is repair and parts availability when you crash into the wall while sleeping behind the wheel or playing a game on your cell while in auto drive (YIKES).

Have to agree with a number of the comments, you are speaking about number here and show very few. Also, not sure what the service costs are like in GB, but service costs on BMWs and others you noted are not as cheap as you state. Finally, an insurance comparison would have been relevant as well. What does it cost to insure a Tesla in the old sod? Typically here, unless you can get the Tesla sponsored insurance (not yet available across the USA) you are going to pay a premium for insurance. I'm still going to get one mind you, but you need to look at all the factors involved and so a true cost analysis.

A more expensive, polluting car that requires constant expensive maintenance and will die long before a Tesla? You must REALLY like an exhaust note! I have come to love the slight whine as my nearly silent car leaves Porsches in the rear view mirror.

i mean he basically mentioned this by noting that there are very few moving parts in teslas. i’ve owned the specific tesla he mentioned (model 3 long range, but mine has full self drive so i paid an extra $10k, doesn’t matter lol just threw that in there) for about a year. nothing has ever “broken”. i know a couple tesla owners that would say the same and they’ve owned their teslas far longer than i have. you can save so much money with these, the purchase price was steep but it has been super cheap ever since, and not only is it affordable but it’s magical to drive.

True, but we also tend to drive a lot of kms, and the more you drive the cheaper it gets. It was still worth my while buying a M3 as I do around 40k km per year. Solar panels on the roof and a wholesale electricity deal means my charging costs are negligible. I save nearly $5,000 a year compared to my old diesel Jetta. No brainer.
