I was told that the reasoning for shadow the hedgehog holding a gun wasnt to appeal to the fps gaming community, rather it was due to fan submitted letters based around what fans wanted to see in a new sonic game, and the most reoccurring message was sonic with a gun, sega realized that they cant have their mascot holding a gun, so they defaulted to shadow as an excuse to also flesh out his backstory.

I honestly want Sonic cosplayers train to wrestle, one could be Sonic, One could be Silver, maybe Jet and shadow. and just be human versions of them. but they all have unique movesets, badass entrances, their own sonic themes and man we need that in 2021 It would be so cool to see, but not in mascot suits. we need people who can compete and give them very awesome entrances and movesets. Personalities would be as follows Sonic: The fast, cocky and arrogant wrestler who can do high flying and is all around a good wrestler, also he would be a face. Shadow: Tweener (Anti-Hero) easily could be a nasty brawler and fight the very best. Silver: The underdog babyface who is firey and resilient, he isn't arrogant or cocky, but will make mistakes sometimes. Jet: Just like Sonic he is Arrogant, Cocky, Egotistical, but he's more of the Tweener (Villain Lean) type of quick high flyer. Imagine that fatal 4 way in 2021. holy shit.
