Thanks for this! I used to have a pet chameleon and I got so sick of explaining this over and over to people who would ask me to “put him on stuff” or whatever… He was actually a pretty active color changer for the type he was, and he had some cool patterns when he was excited and would look like tiger stripe camo when he was tired and hiding for bedtime. I miss that cute little guy!

I've handled chameleons alot in my life and they've always been so fascinating to me. I always thought the dark change of color was when they were scared or something, and the light green that they were happy and or content. We learn new things every day, thanks for making this very chillaxed video!

Reptile keeper here, colour changing is actually pretty common in lizards. Some examples are green anoles, crested geckos (and their relatives), and bearded dragons. Of course, the chameleon colour changing is more noticeable but many lizards have primitive colour changing abilities. See a bearded dragon with a black throat? That means that it’s feeling dominant or upset, and the throat will lighten when the dragon calms down. Many gecko species can “Fire up”, meaning that they can brighten their colours for a short while when they get excited. I find this stuff really fascinating

Our chameleon has only shown greens and grays (because he is young and gets stressed from his new home sometimes) majority of the time he is a beautiful happy bright green or a deeper green. 40 years ago I had an anole as a pet, which is similar to a chameleon. He definitely changed color according to the surrounding air temperature and his mood or well-being. He went from a bright green to a warm brown. Most interesting was once when someone came in the room smoking He immediately turned a strong dark orange color and also had an angry look on his little face! Bless his little heart! He did NOT like smoking in the room!

Lots of lizards have some kind of a color change mechanism, a lot of bearded dragon owners can attest to it - they usually change it based on their temperature, darker when cold so they can bask more effectively and brighter when warm but also excited. Then their berds change color independently to indicate they are upset or willing to mate. Their bellies have a pattern that can get lighter or darker too!

@igorsvacic217
@igorsvacic217 Ай бұрын
First off, it should be said that chameleons differ VERY MUCH in their abbillity to change colour in the first place, and also in colour range they can show. AND, on top of that, we can go even crazier. there are HUGE differences in between same species depending on locallity where they are found. Most known probably is Panther chameleon, since its one of the most vibrant species and pretty comon in a pet trade. We have, well, depending on who you ask, but at lest 7 different forms and locallity colours. So one variation can have vibrant blue, turqoise, green (it seems green is the only shared colour among all), white while other are orange, red, yellow, black and green. In other words the turqoise variation doesent have red at all, in any stage or mood, altrough its a same species. Similar thing are been observed in differen animals, snakes etc, but its NOTHING even close compared to chameleons. Its actually pretty misterious thing, not researched enough, at least to my knowledge. The big differences in same snake species is mostly due to human intervention, of breeding different morohs found in nature, but morphs are like white tiger, not a normal thing, they just happen, but in chameleons its different.
