As a 5 series owner and a 911 owner for the last 10 years I’m gonna disagree - kinda. Porsches are more fun for smooth road track drives and racing without a doubt. But for daily driving - think normal speeds, normal roads, all weather, long distances, passengers, luggage, stuff at the store - it’s not even close. I’ll get in the BMW every day over the 911. If it’s a second car the Porsche wins. But if you can only have 1 and you have to drive it every day then BMW for the win.

Just purchased a 997 and also own an e46 m3 and e92 m3 and I have to say that the m cars are better cars for the money and handles and drives just as well and more comfortably. There's no reason Porsche parts needs to be so much more expensive, there's nothing special about them.

As I said bmw is a autobahn car and cruiser not a sports car and never will be they serve for high speed roads only. Which isn’t practical as a daily car and a useless car. And if you sell porsche then you know porsche is a much better quality and built car all round. If people have a family then unfortunately bmw is the only car they can really target. But if like me you can have 2 seater cars then it’s a no brainer what to choose. As I said I was a bmw guy until porsche come along now I can’t see myself driving a bmw again as a daily. And BMWs ain’t good for the road they handle like s**t and the performance is utter crap aswell. I drive 5 of them so I should know all are crap on the road and if your a Porsche salesman then You should already be aware how a Porsche handles there is no way you can even say that bmw is good on the road no way! I had every bmw there is and they are all crap for handling , cornering and the performance is delayed from the throttle response.

I have to agree. I own a manual 997 3.8 S with factory lsd. Its so fast and handles very well. I was driving my dads 98 Boxter a few days ago, even with the 2.5 litre engine you leave most things behind. Furthermore at almost 25 years old its still like a brand new car and the handing beats anything modern that I have driven.

Gospel truth Dr. Dean! I always shake my head in disbelief when BMW owners, especially ///M car owners, spend literally thousands on performance upgrades on a relatively new car. Often times they could've achieved the same, or even better results if they had just bought a nicely appointed Porsche. Don't get me wrong; I'm fully in the BMW camp. Modern high performance BMWs are way more affordable to insure, tune, drive, and repair. In most cases BMW's are generally leaps and bounds more versatile too. I love my little E82 135i for what it is. When I have the spare cash for a dedicated weapon, I'll straightaway acquire a Porsche... preferably a GT3 RS! 😄

Have both you won’t regret it ! I would DEFINITELY target the 987 as they are fast becoming highly wanted and prices are going up. Make sure to get a 3.4S and with a tune and the plenum and throttle body intake and exhaust and B&C filter any tuner of Porsche will know what to do you will make at least 330BHP which is extremely fast on a mid engine car feels like 500BHP that’s what mine has and I can tell you there is no car on the road that can keep up!

I've always liked 911 Porsches, and I like that my manual E82 135i coupe is as small as these modern 6cyl BMWs get. Without iDrive or a sun roof, it is optioned as light & driver focused as possible. On the autobahn it cruises unbelievably well up to 280kmh, the aftermarket is fantastic, and the N55 sounds incredible. I wouldn't want anything newer from BMW these days unless it was an M2, but for that money I'd look at a Porsche too.

The boxster gets dragged as the poor mans porsche, or the wifes porsche, but the bottom line is theyre still a porsche. You get more heat for owning a boxster than a miata here which is the craziest thing to me. Porsche is super expensive in canada, so for 90s boxster money you can have a low km corvette c5 which is the only reason i dont have one yet. That’s so true ! They get called the women’s porsche or the poor man’s 911 but yet they handle better then a 911 and if it wasn’t for the boxster as a whole porsche would have gone bankrupt as it was the boxster that saved them from bankruptcy. The 987 boxster is actually faster then the cayman s by seconds and that’s why I’m torn between both as I say I love the cayman s lines and the coupe but I also hate when the sun is out and you can’t put the roof down on the country roads. That experience alone is worth owning a Porsche. And I completely agree porsche is DEFFINETELY not cheap parts are more expensive then a Ferrari and this car would surely bankrupt any bmw owner financially very quickly. There is no such thing as a poor man’s porsche as porsche is porsche and all the parts are expensive and all parts use the same as the 911.

As a bmw guy I agree Dean, BMW will never be Porsche, Porsche simply is the ultimate driving machine these days. BMW after the E series era kinda went downhill from there, although the F series models are ok, they’re simply not like the older cars. Porsche still makes the manual gearbox, & rear wheel drive, & naturally aspirated non turbocharged engines which BMW doesn’t anymore, & BMW should of never thrown out the N52 motor, they should of kept the engine in production for years to come, or even a N55 variant without turbochargers. Unfortunately BMW isn’t the ultimate driving machine, it’s Porsche. My favourite Porsches is the 911 Carrera models, 996, 997, 993, 959, 928, 987 Cayman, & Carrera GT, & 918 hypercar, plus the 911 GT1. But yes I have to agree Porsche isn’t cheap like BMW is. Although both cars are German, Porsche is a total different car/brand compared to BMW. Plus Porsche is ranks one of the most reliable German cars today.

Porches are great, but they are different cars. I can’t get what I need in one. My 340i touring ticks the boxes for my needs. The IMS bearing is troublesome though in Porsche from 98-07. Horses for courses…

IMS isn’t a big issue and it only affected a percentage of Porsches most never had a issue at all. Mine being 2006 has the later one built into the case so I have no worries about mine thankfully 🙏 a 997 would suit your needs 🙂 much better then a 340i as I say you need to drive one to understand what I mean but trust me after you drive a Porsche you will look at bmw differently. S**t dude just getting out of one into another you will feel the bmw feels unresponsive and you will forget your driving a bmw when you want to corner at speed 😊

Partly agree. I have an e87 130i as a daily and a Lotus Elise for the twisties and the track. Had older 911s (´72 and ´80) in the past, but they don´t compare in terms of handling and sticking to the road. A front engined car can never beat a mid engined car in terms of steering feel and turning in. Compared to VWs and Audis BMW made some very nice handling cars. Anyway, BMW lost the plot in recent years. Getting fatter and fatter and trying to compensate it with ridiculous Bhp numbers. 😂

You know I watched this video a couple times. I am a Bmw fan but I can’t argue with him on his observations. Porche is a better handling sports car, like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Bmw is not in that league. While I hate the new Bmw designs at least the models look different. Porches all look the same to me. No no not giving up the brand as I said bmw is my speciality. But porsche is what I want to drive as a daily and what I look forward to restoring and working on as I get older in life. Soon my days will be numbered with bmw as I get older, you have to know I’m probably the third oldest bmw guy on here and I’m not far off 40 I want the more relaxed life and I want cars that hold value continuously. Not ones that drop value and nobody wants so as I get older my plan is too have all Porsches for me and my wife as bmw isn’t something I want to be doing in my 50s

Love the timeless design but new BMWs just are ugly I also own a X5 and CRV so I’m thinking of upgrading to something for retirement which isn’t boring. Over them all deffinetely the boxster s espeically if your bald 😂 get the sun on your head and get that tan. It offers everything you can want in a car and when I’m 50 bro believe me I’m only going porsche all the way bmw is not a car I want to be fixing everyday when I’m 50 I want to enjoy life and I don’t mind working on porsche when I’m 50 as that will be a rare occasion unlike bmw. As for suvs do not touch a Porsche suv that is the worst of the bunch I would target the boxster s or the cayman s if it was me 987 , 987.2 or 718 any of them are a excellent Choi e. As I said in the video dude go and test drive one I guarantee if you don’t buy it, you will be dreaming about it everyday until you get it and won’t want to drive anything else from that point onwards 😊 take it from me I haven’t looked back and don’t regret my choice one bit. Such a well engineered, high quality , superb handling car everything about Porsche is 10/10 I literally cannot fault it. Yes they cost money but you have to pay to play and if you find one well looked after with it all done that is a win win situation and guess what, it’s a car that will never go down or lose value that’s what I love the most.
