Pretty sure the chassis/rake difference between McLaren and everything else he's driven was a big issue for Danny Ric as well. Both the red bull and Renault were a touch shorter with higher take angles than the McLaren which would cause a pretty big difference in turn in on the corners. Take a look at the RB vs the Mercedes on tight vs fast tracks for example I feel like this new car being so different might actually help him level out if not excel pretty well since he's already driven more different setups than a lot of other drivers on the grid

I think regulating cars goes like regulating equipment. By standardizing more parameters in the cars, you can more clearly measure pilot skills. That said, at least engineers can still be creative. We don't have a single manufacturer make every car. In many sports, there isn't even a "minimum", there is only a fixed parameter (for instance, discus throw has a table for fixed discus weight per gender, per age range).

Congrats on the 100th episode! You mentioned that the center of *gravity* moving towards the rear increases oversteer, but then said that the center of *pressure* moving to the rear...increases understeer. Would have been cool to see the explanation there - as an engineer myself I know it's because the former affects the inertia, while the latter effects the grip of the tires - but I feel like that's the type of topic B2B could tackle really well.
@shinn432 жыл бұрын
it was explained pretty much in this video. The moment arm increases when the centre of gravity is pushed towards the rear. Grip on the front tire decreases (more lift causing the front tires to pitch up) when the centre of pressure in the rear (more downforce aft of the centre of pressure).
