Franklinton was "The Bottoms" I grew up there in the 50s and 60s. It looked about the same back then, anything below Brehl avenue to the river , has been underwater to at least the second floor twice since 1913. I remember 1959 they took my grandmother out of her apartment on the second floor , she walked out on the porch roof and climbed into a boat.

I HAD to learn every road and freeway because my dad owned a towing business for about 35 years his business was on north 4th st and east 18th ave (Osu campus area). But I gotta say hilltop is the worst area in Columbus you almost was there at 5:00 if you would of went under that bridge, and Sullivant ave is entertaining if you want some content lol. I feel like linden has become the most dangerous spot in town. Having in both franklinton, and linden, I can say a lot more gang activity goes on in hilltop, although linden has more random, violent activity. I've lived around Columbus my whole life. You were in Franklinton ( the bottoms ) but you stayed to close to Broad Street. All I gotta say is, head down Sullivant Avenue, Hilltop and the Bottoms. Lots of drugs, prostitution, gangs. They have shootings and overdoses on the regular in those area. Especially Wedgewood Apartments in the Hilltop. Linden is also really bad. And all the Michigan stuff you saw isn't people from Michigan. A lot of people in the hoods root for the football team. It's a cultural thing.

Try Hood in Hamilton ,Ohio. Worse area is East Side. Areas around Front St, East Ave, Pershing Ave. Homeless Areas are found behind small shopping strip, Alleys, everywhere just look around and you'll see. Check out the " The Square" in the of Pershing Ave between Front st and MLK Blvd. They are currently rebuilding the Projects on Front Street, looks nice on out side but cruise that entire Neighborhood. I personally would never walk this area. Don't get me wrong, there is some good people in these parts, but a lot of crime. Hamilton, Ohio is a very diverse city, I don't believe there is alot of discrimination. Have noticed last few years the Hispanic Nationality has increased dramatically. However, I see that in most towns in lower income urban areas.

I grew up there and graduated from OSU. If I hadn't gotten a scholarship to a NE prep school for 3 yrs, I would not have been able to handle OSU. Cols schools are very bad. Many bad houses but overall survivable compared to Dayton's west side OMG or Cleveland. I was a gas station attendant's son who got a full ride in prep school travel and all, then got a bachelor of science degree in aero engineering and an ms in aero science. Became an aero engineer for the usaf. I couldn't afford to retire before age 65, because ss didn't give me enough to retire on. So I camped in the woods in Maine Tampa Dayton Columbus and others until I was too weak from age to go on. Columbus is a good city, but like all cities in the USA, it has problems. The problems could be fixed, but it can't happen with a high unemployment rate, less tax money coming in to make the very expensive infrastructure replacement and maintenance. The crushing real estate prices. NO REAL PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION is a problem. It saddens me to hear over and over again about teens found shot in Columbus. FUN FACT: The building on the right, (at 25:47) the one just before the green building is where possibly once stood the B&T Metals building. They built parts for the WWII Atomic bombs there, and this was of course a secret. Even the workers didn't know what they were making these parts specifically for. When that building was razed, it was found to be contaminated and had to be cleaned up.

I was born in Columbus and have lived all my 36 years here…on every side of town at some point 😂. A good portion was right here in Franklinton…also known as The Bottoms. It used to look a lot worse! But bc it’s so close to downtown the city wants it to “look” more appealing. So people that aren’t living at poverty level have been buying up houses left and right and remodeling them (which is great) but most of the drugs or “traps” have been pushed further up broad, also known as The Hilltop. Drugs are soo bad here…but then again drugs are bad on EVERY side of town here! Drive through here when it’s warm outside, deff will be a lot more people out. Regardless idk if I would want to live anywhere else…the quiet alone would be a lil scary 😂

I lived in Columbus for 25 years. Columbus has ALWAYS been good to me. I moved there October 1995, and earned a GREAT career exactly 1 month (Nov 1995) after moving there from Detroit. I raised my 3 children there without any family support (because we had no family there), and 2 of my children still live there. Columbus grows and flourishes continuously. I always tell people, if you cannot make it in Columbus Ohio you cannot make it anywhere. Out of the 25 years I was there, I built my own business for 17 years. I now reside in North Carolina. If you decide to move there I pray you find Columbus as fruitful as I did. Cool resourceful City.😎

We are the Florida of the Midwest, lol. Hi from Cbus, OH. We have a bit of everything, but we are a service-economy; home of headquarters for fast food chains, and a "paper" city built on state government, the Ohio State University, and the insurance industry. We don't have many factories like Cleveland used to, and we aren't a river-traffic hub like Cincinnati. We have people from all over the world, thanks to the university. We have the best restaurants. Because we're the capital, we are are kept pretty nice. Some of the worst neighborhoods are actually near campus, because of the constant overturning of the student rentals.

Living in the hood is economics based. There are many white people who fall in the lower socioeconomic status. It is not a good thing for anyone. It limits you unless you are blessed to get out. When you are able to do better, you do better. Poverty should not be glamorized. Poverty mindset is a curse not a blessing. Let’s not call good bad, and bad good.

Between Rogue fitness's massive plants, and the north linden community center, these "bad neighborhoods" have started to slowly get better and better with more resources. Though, I've never once, even when I 1st got up here, made a wrong turn and felt like I was in trouble, like I had in Atlanta or even marietta.. the north is just an all around better place to be. I dont miss the south at all.
