As always, a lovely video showing the ups and downs of sailing. People who haven’t done it struggle to understand why we put up with the pain - broken bits, crazy weather, fog, to name but a fraction and then are aghast at things like the simple pleasure gained from a proper shower! :-)) Yet all the downs are forgotten when you experience the ups - the pure pleasure of adventure in fine sailing conditions where there is nothing but the sound of the waves, the sun on your face and the occasional visit from an inquisitive pod. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Hey there guys. Add two spring loaded jam cleats port and stbd side of your tiller handle on the vertical surface (on the sides, not the top and bottom) for your sheet to tiller ropes and you can make infinite and quick adjustments. I may have a video of this on my older vlogs. Fair winds mate.

great fish, wow! hope that was a canned tuna we saw you eating there, right? fresh Tuna is eaten raw as sashimi or briefly seared on both sides, leaving it lovely and red inside. PS make sure you bleed a Tuna out for a while, the taste will amaze you even more.
@SailingKittiwake4 жыл бұрын
We love to do that with blue fin tuna and skipjack tuna, which have “red” flesh, but long fin tuna is very different in taste and it’s light pink. We don’t like it as sashimi. Yeah, we always bleed tuna in a bucket otherwise a shark or marlin could take it if we leave it in the water.

Hello! Great video! one question, though: on our boat, the wind vane is connected to the steering so that the main rudder and the wind vane rudder turns together. I gues you could also have this setup. Why did you opted for not connecting the rudder to the wind vane? Best regards!
@SailingKittiwake4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tibor, ours is a Hydrovane which had a separate independent rudder that steers the boat. There’s pros and cons to each type and both have their fans - either is better than the autopilot for ocean sailing in our opinion :)
@tiborkiss91864 жыл бұрын
@@SailingKittiwake yep. I am currently triyng to link the wind sensor to the autopilot htrough the open cpn navigation - maybe this way the autopilot will be less "active" in microsteering the boat...have you ever tried such setup?

Are you sure about your wind speeds? I think you’re over-stating them (or your instruments are)! For example at 10:48s when you say “18kts wind” it looks half that (even if you mean apparent not true)! And the low boat speeds support that.
@SailingKittiwake4 жыл бұрын
I don’t always film the instruments at the same time as I’m taking a selfie, so sometimes the instruments won’t match the words - they’ve been filmed earlier or later. It’s just b-roll.

Poor fish! I've been five years in the tuna harvesting industry for farming as most of the sushi so expensive comes from farms, not free, ocean roaming and migranting fish: they are captured, put into cages (50 m diameter, 35 m deep made by plastics) by the hundreds and then towed, at a very low speed to the farming and fattening stations. that was my job. Once I took 75 days to cover a little more than 1.000 miles, (average speed 12 miles a day) from Libya to southern Spain, with the loss of tents and tens of fish which, after two days after death (depending on water temp) floated to the surface, rotten and there was a trail of these creatures on our wake (now and again a group of spanish scuba divers came to inspect and get rid of the dead). The best fish went to the japanese market earnig huge profit to those interested in the enterprise. The tuna migrating into the Med are the best quality and far bigger than those living in the open oceans, expecially in the Pacific and so there was (early 2001-05 - my experience) a huge armada of fishermen to exploit those poor animals, from floating nets and lines of hooks 60/70 miles long and more to circling nets (captured for farming or just for the market - a minority) from Italy, France, Spain, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Japan and Korea both interested in floating nets (derivanti) and lines of hooks (palamiti).
