What is MY "Why"? When I first saw one of your videos, and you said "let your LIFE be your niche" - I was hooked! Growing up as "the kid your mother warned you about" - I spent my first 27 yrs as a drunken sot who ruined everything and everyone I touched. But now, for the last 35 of my 62 yrs, I've been blessed to be called a teacher, a leader, and an adventurer, who demonstrates living a "life of useful purpose". Now, family and friends are telling me that I should find MORE ways to share my experience, strength, and hope. I can now see how I can AUTHENTICALLY do that. Thank you!

Doesn't it really make your day? It does. You watch someone and listen to what they have to say. You resonate with it, and then go see what else they have to say in another video. You sub. You like. You even save their videos sometimes in a Playlist created..... just for your creator friend. I do, anyways. You click on every new video they release and you watch it even if it ain't so resonating, we still may watch it to support our creator friend. But when you message them and they respond back to you, that's one thing. But when they acknowledge you almost every time, you feel a connection. A bond. Or they do a livestream and you message them and ask a question, and they say your name and answer you. Then, ya have the days when you see yiur channel thumbnail and your comment on the screen at the beginning of a video and it just hits different. Like yiu were called to the front of the classroom and everyone is looking at you now. Lol! It really is a beautiful thing to be able to create something and have people begin to join your community. Finding people to talk with abiut the things that interest you or are on your mind Even if you are a loner, ya still enjoy this type of connection. And to some viewers and creators, these people become your online friend. I hang out online more than I do in person. Heck! I take my fav creators to the bathroom sometimes. Lol. I wonder how many people have watched my short videos while they were taking a......... I liked your comment and I resonated with it, apparently

@@Steven-Thompson For one, most of the stuff you are talking about in this vid has been bouncing around my mind this week. To you, I want to say that I haven't watched a 2nd video so I don't know your editing style but I do like these types of videos of someone talking to me. I'm on one of those highs right now. My viewership has almost doubled in the past 10 days. All of those things you talked about in the video. The comments and repeat viewers. My analytics finally received enough data to show me stuff about the viewers. Listening to you talk about your experience made my day also. I think this is my 1st time viewing your content. Because of "lightening up" I believe that I began to post more. I'll prob listen to you in the morning again. I usually rewatch vids several times when they resonate like this one. 6 of your vids are in my Playlist. Gotta listen to you talk about "figuring out my why". That's a question I must answer for everything going on in my life. Thanks for the response. I'm a paragraph writer. Sorry so long of a comment. I'll never get a response from you again. Lol. YOU: don't respond, Steven. That that guy that wrote a seven paragraph comment the last time.

Brand new to my no-niche YT channel about senior life - different aspects of being a senior - from health and fitness to relationships, goal-setting, adventure, spirituality, and more. I created a profile of my ideal YT viewer and her core values. I've done quite a bit of public speaking in my life (I'm 66), so I'm pretty comfortable organizing my thoughts and getting on camera. I feel like I should do SOME editing. Remove some of the "you knows," throw up a few short bullets here and there, and I like how you add music - it feels magical.

That's a really good take on the KZbin experience. I'm seven weeks into mine, and much of what you've said has hit home. Although, I've gone into it with the mindset that it's a marathon and not a sprint! Recording yourself for x number of days REALLY does work. I did a video diary for about three weeks before I could talk to the camera properly. My advice is to record using the back camera or cover the camera preview. It's too distracting, and even now, after (I think) 30+ videos, I still get distracted by the preview. Cracking video tho, it's nice to see I'm not the only one that does these things.

@Steven-Thompson I'm on the Celebrity Reflection right now so I will be doing a full ship tour of that with pros cons. I'm doing a back-to-back so two more room tours. I had a pretty big mistake in the casino so that will be a video along with the casino tour. I'm actually on 36 Days of cruising, 7 cruises, three different Cruise lines. So there will definitely be content about that. I have a pretty cool story script that I'm creating for the final one. Our best producing video so far has been the full ship tour so I'll be doing a tour on each one of the ships that should be pretty good evergreen content. The videos will just keep getting better because I have learned a ton about editing and also how to shoot my videos so that the editing is easier. The problem isn't content. It's time. :-) I still have to post tours of our trip to Italy and the airbnb's we've stayed in. My husband is going to be doing the Airbnb tours. We still work in our real estate business so there will be tidbits along the way about working from a cruise ship or while traveling. Thank you for all your information! Learning everyday! Anna

The thing with Niching down is it’s been blown out of all proportion and turned into a false construct. What I mean by that is people have been led to believe that they must make content on one thing and must only do one thing and be known for one thing whilst that’s great to have a focus if we have followed trends are not gone in Wood done the work and found our voice the content we put out isn’t true to who we are and therefore tends not to be sustainable. So with that in mind if you created content around the things you love the things you’re good at the things you could be paid for in the future and something that the world needs therefore giving back to the world what you find is your true voice your true purpose something that resonates with you and something that your audience enjoy and want from you so when it comes to growth on a platform blank the audience shop for you and the value you share and the platforms algorithms show it to the people who keep showing up for you and people like them therefore you find real alignment in your process. Now the challenges with a platform like KZbin residence comes from seeing peoples faces being seen and being believed hence why I created the Courage before confidence training program to help people get over the fear of Video get themselves on camera and connect with their tribe so if you’d like to check that out, I’ll put a link here and I hope it helps and serves you too. I think the struggle comes from our efforts to be in control in a situation where our agency is fully off the table. I think the best way to stay sane is to completely block yourself from any stats provided by youtube. I’m only few months in, but already had to make a decision to only have notifications for comments. I’ve no idea how many subscribers or views I have. It helps a ton, since I the only validation I allow myself, is the sense that I’m improving every. single. video.

This is so spot on. Im a new KZbinr so this is very encouraging. I recorded my second video which was a little bit longer. Then used a free editing tool since im just getting started on editing. I uploaded the video to KZbin and then I realize that there was a long annoying and visible WaterMark crossing through the whole video. I felt so frustrated bearing in mind i took a whole day to finally export it. I thought of taking it down immediately. The frustration has been real. But people are just so kind. So may be ill not take it down..., im still thinking about it. Its difficult but it feels so good to have a voice in this world as a my authentic self. Thank tou for the priceless nuggets.

Congratulations on your video I personally wouldn’t worry about the watermark. The next one percent that you grow is you fully aware of that watermark and nose to remove it and it won’t happen again that change is continuous growth. And if anybody leaves a comment about it, just thank them and explain it’s your first video and we’re all learning we all learn to walk. We all learn to drive and we all spent 16 years in school learning. So what’s your next video gonna be about? I’m curious. 🧐

I love that you share about the importance of mindset and making it clear for creators that it's hard to grow. So many others make it seem like it's a breeze and make people feel like failures if they don't get tons of views or subscribers within a few weeks. So thank you and please share more about mindset and how to keep going when we can't see any results yet. 😀

Kudos to you from Mexico! I've been strongly considering starting a KZbin channel and your ability to articulate the real life and very relatable concerns we beginners have is a breath of fresh air 🎉 one little constructive piece of feedback I will give you is that I noticed many times the camera is coming in and out of focus because of your tendency to gesticulate. I'm not sure what could be done about that but it is a little bit distracting. I really believe given the authenticity of your message and the quality of your videos that your channel is bound to grow.

I made my own video schedule list (one for long form and another for shorts), for this new channel, just launched this week. It’s much more manageable, and I feel like I can actually end up tackling the sticky notes all over my bookshelves that sit on my desk. Btw, is there a story that goes with that tea pot behind you? I’ve never seen one that size, here in the U.S.
@Steven-Thompson3 ай бұрын
Nice work! Sounds like you have a solid starting point. As for the tea-pot, I’ve been known for many years as ‘Tea with Ste’ I’ve a Facebook community etc, it blew up during Covid
@professordianaskole3 ай бұрын
@@Steven-Thompson Thank you for the compliment, and nice to know about the tea pot. I’ll have to see if I can find one that size here in the US. A second hand store might be my best bet. When I had a large office sized coffee pot, I used to make tea in it because the tea pots here are half the size of that one behind you, and that’s not enough tea. Did it work really well? Not exactly. Maybe I should see if I can incorporate my hunt for a decent sized tea pot into one of my videos on higher education. Or maybe I’m going down an Alice in Wonderland riddle rabbit-hole with that one. I’ll make a note, and sleep on it. (I’ve gotten 3 new video ideas from your talks since I subscribed, btw.)

@Steven-Thompson I called my channel Self Confidence Motivation, because I need both confidence & motivation! 🤣 I set channel up years ago intending to work on it & started with a test video, maybe around the 2016(?) paralympics, as I loved the video promo & my mum's friend Tony was the singer in the wheelchair! I just used it as an inspirational piece for myself, but of course knew it would be copyrighted & not for monetising! It did get lots of views & I think had over 1000 subs on channel, tho I haven't checked in about 5yrs.. 🤔 I let life get in the way & have done nothing,... Also don't like myself on camera much, but am starting to use advice on a daily diary, recording myself a little each day just rambling about stuff, to get used to it! 😄

you hit the nail on the head with many topics when on a journey of content creation. its a journey that requires such resilience and discipline and so much learning, but it must be enjoyed and so personal health must be part of the process and this is something that tends to go out the window when the passion turns to overwhelm. Ensuring self care routines are included are paramount for mental health through the journey because without health, success means nothing. I love that you elaborate on "you don't need the fancy expensive equipment" its such an added stress and so many creators try to copy with the same lingo. You are so right about connecting with audience and also being authentic, having your own messages, do what you enjoy and love rather than drifting into areas that don't quite fulfil you. So glad i stumbled across your video, i loved it and your messages are a great reminder that the journey is a marathon not a sprint - so many super successful creators burned out. left their platforms, went on long sabbaticals because no-one cares about your wellbeing so its important to take accountability - hence my comment success means nothing if you jeopardise your health. I look forward to following your journey, thanks 💯💯💯💯👏🏼👏🏼

Most of my biomedical videos get about 10 or 20 views, but one got 700 views, so I assumed I was on to something. Unfortunately, no, but it does at least make me optimistic about the potential.
@Steven-Thompson4 ай бұрын
Hi Nelson, how are you doing? I completely hear you on this and I’ve been through that experience many times myself. The key really is to be making videos for the humans that you want to attract because you should get 1 million views on video but if those million people aren’t your ideal clients then the grand scheme of things it doesn’t mean much to you . However 10 to 20 people who watch your videos consistently or your clients and the people you should be following up with because they’re warmly aren’t they? When people are building, they just look at all Matt whilst that is right to get more views on your videos. It depends on your audience you are trying to attract. I have a client in quantity survey who gets 20 to 30 views on his podcast videos thing is were emailing those out to the right people and he’s getting more traction on LinkedIn and he’s getting more meetings in his diary so it’s all relative based on the outcome that you’re looking for . 99% of KZbinrs won’t succeed because they’re doing what 99% of KZbinrs are doing they should be doing what they should be doing. Hope that helps and what your next video about.

Hello Steven , I have wanted to have my own channel for years , I have many ideas, and talented in many areas . Some reason I don't feel comfortable with being on camera. I sing on different stages with different bands and karaoke but still feel uncomfortable. I would love to travel or just figure out how to have a successful channel your videos I just started watching has helped me think I can do this I'm not technical or computer savvy . I'll be 61 in November I really want to do something while I can.

Thank you for stopping by my channel and sharing your story. It really resonates with the most of the people that are coming into contact with everyone struggles initially to put themselves on camera. It’s a process that we need to work through hence why I developed the Courage before confidence training program. I’ll pop link here so you can get access to it and have a look and see if it’s something you want to do. A key piece in the program is a 30 day practice which will improve your confidence get rid of all those self-doubts and limiting beliefs and help you create content that truly resonates with the people you want to reach by doing the process you find out your voice and the right content to be sharing with the people you want to attract because whilst we have Many skills many interest many talents until we speak them into existence. We won’t connect with the path that we want to walk. I hope this helps here is the link to take a look and I look forward to answering more of your comments on Future videos. Have a blessed day. www.bigdaddydigital.com/couragebeforeconfidence

Thank you. This was very helpful. 😊 We started our channel almost a year ago have gotten up to 1500 subscribers but don’t have 200 watch hours yet. We have been doing live streams when we have time but feels like I’ll never get the 3-4000 hours we need

Mine pleased the video was of some use. I suggest checking out my latest video which dropped today. It shows a reason why you don’t need 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time. I’m sure you’ll find it useful.

Thanks for the confidence man. I only have 5 subs but I keep going! Unfortunately no comments :( but I'm still going!

You can do it! We all have to start from somewhere 👍

Keep going bro just make sure you're consistent with what you post that being in the content and how much you post my recommendation. Post one to three shorts a day and one to two long-form videos a week

Thanks for the insights. I found that shorts crippled my long form reach, how are you finding it?

@kollects interesting you say that as I saw shorts ruined my channel growth so I’ve stopped making them and the ones I’ve did make I’ve put private, unless they were a breakout video.

I needed to hear this. Second guessing myelf lately and that wasn’t an issue before. I have been doing this for 2 years now. But I still love the process of making videos. It fullfills me. My goal is to make the best possible video with the resources I have available. I try something new every video. Something, I haven’t done yet.
