Wow, I'm way behind. Last time I saw this you were blowing my mind with the board n batton roof. The cabin turned out beautiful!!! The Queen approves also, she said, "it's just like G'Pa Beck's cabin with tools n stuff hanging on the outside zo it's up out of the snow". But she agreed- beautiful. Her family always called the sauna a Fin bath. Anyway... beautiful work.

I remember the cold but beautiful mornings as a youngster living up in Chelmsford Ontario, I miss the times as a child when we would build a shelter to sleep for the night and in the morning we would ice fish for breakfast as well as fresh fish to bring home.

Shawn , Being from the Northeast my whole life I have come to expect these types of winters and amounts of snow you have there however that doesn't mean than I ever got use to it . Having lived in various parts of the world during my military career I have a basis of comparison , that being a warm climate vs. a cold one . Living in a cold snowy environment places a much higher demand on you psychologically and physically and places limitations on the time required to do certain things however it seems like you have adapted quit nicely . Hi Shawn, great video again. I wrote you earlier about the traditional Finnish saunas and the need for a good water supply and also about the need for a good drainage under the sauna floor. Since your sauna will be the main means for washing also during winter, it is a good idea to heat the steam room well after each bathing in order to dry the walls and floor from water and dampness. Otherwise you will have a mold problem. After drying make sure the steam room is kept well ventilated. Also during bathing you need one intake of fresh air in the steam room for the fire to burn well. This vent should be close to the floor level. In modern saunas it is often placed under the elevated benches that you sit on, but in a winter sauna you don't want to freeze your butt, so another possibility is to leave an open space under the sauna door so that fresh air runs straight from the vent to the rock stove. The out vent should be the kind that you can open and close at will and should be placed near the ceiling and close at hand when sitting on the elevated bench. Be also prepared to change the floor planks after some years of use. They tend to rot out first in outdoor saunas that are used during winters. Be well. Raimo Rask, Finland
